Your reasons for continuing your sub after March 17?

Honestly, I don't' see a reason to pay for something that others aren't paying as much for or getting for free. I get enough of that as a working citizen of the good old USA.

So basically I will be paying 15 a month for some crowns for the foreseeable future. I don't do costumes or pets... so not much there. Doesn't DLC normally cost around 10-15? Why pay 90+ before we get our first DLC, which then we don't even "own". Doesn't make a lot of sense, I guess the deciding factor will be what is in the store and if it is worth having and using everyone month.

Some things that would keep me subbed,

PVP entry Priority, hrm well can't really think of anything else that doesn't give an in game advantage, and I don't know that just that would be enough honestly.

Finding it hard to sell myself on staying subbed.

It is hard even thinking about why you would want to resub. You have already saved the day. Molag Bal has been defeated. You can rest on your laurels and go have a drink in the tavern with your mates. No need to grind way at pointless content.

ZoS made a terrible design error when they created an end game. At approximately VR1 you had saved the day. After that it is all pointless The reason so many left was not the VR system but the realisation that Cadwell's Silver and Gold were totally pointless once you were the Hero of Tamriel.
Sure you should have been able to do Silver and Gold if you wished but there should have been a story line "to be continued' in future content. The Champion system will not solve the vacuum of no relevant story line content.

You are assuming that there won't be a further 'main' quest added. You may be right, but I could very well see a new large story arc being introduced within the next year that is only accessible from the equivalent of VR14. Hope so anyway.

    Depends...
Do all horses, pets, costumes and such count as DLC and are included for subscribers?
If so then that's my reason.

No, those are cash shop items, not DLC.

You'll get 1500 crowns per month as a plus player. It remains to be seen what the actual value of that is.

DLC will be large updates like Wrothgar. If you're plus, you'll have access to them while paying. When you stop paying, you'll have to purchase them separately.

Bottomline is there is zero reason (other than the tiny perks) to stay subbed past the 17th, unless they offer a DLC at that time or have implemented a known cumulative (or consecutive for people have never unsubbed) loyalty program. I suppose getting 1500 crowns a month might be some perk too but unless DLCs are outrageously priced you an probably get enough to buy a DLC when the DLC is released. But if you are subbed you dont need to buy the DLC then unless you want to replay it after a current sub is lapsed.

Without more incentives I dont see a reason to sub when there isnt any DLC available to access(IMO the main reason to sub in the first place).

I don't even seen a reason to keep playing, even for free, if you don't PvP.

What do go do in this game once you've beaten all of the PvE content and have all of the best gear on multiple characters because of crafting? I'm not saying gear grinds are required, but they're the only way I've seen a game successfully keep people playing without adding any new content for a significant period of time. That, and actually difficult raids. Not the pushover trials that, by design, are easy to complete.

Final Fantasy XIV. Square has proven they care about their game and their players. They have already released 5 major content updates (And yes I do mean actual content not just fluff like Dyes) The most recent of which is so large they had to split it into 3 parts. Have released another class, and are about to release an expansion. Their cash shop is also much more conservative since about 90% of the vanity items on there is stuff players have been able to earn in the game anyway so not much reason to buy it. And has stuck to their word about staying sub based and being committed to making a game people will want to play.

I have a running Eve: Online sub that I maintain and I am considering subbing to Planetside 2 if my friends decide to keep playing and we want to get some progression going in that.

I suspect we'll see some major buffs to the sub perks in ESO in the coming months. If that exp bonus gets up to the 40% area and it applies to CP gain that would be sufficient value for me to continue subbing I think.

I have no intention of subscribing at this point. You are no longer subscribing to the game, just the crown store. I can honestly say that if there are any items in the store worth buying I'll just do it a la carte. I already cancelled my subscription, there isn't anything fun to do anyway so no point in even playing till 1.6 comes out. At this point I'm not even sure it's going to be worth playing even then.

If I enjoy my entertainment I don't mind paying for it and I enjoy ESO very much, so I would sub even if I got no benefits other than all the new content. If I begin to dislike the direction ESO goes then I will re-evaluate my decision.
I'm curious about how you don't already dislike the direction it's going? Have you played other TES games?

They had to make the payment model change for consoles, no one wants to pay Microsoft and or Sony and a sub on top of it....I just wish it wasn't on console. The same people that bought skyrim are not gonna be happy with an elder scrolls MMO anyway. Blame the suits, not the devs.

devils advocate.... they didn't have to F2P the computer version just because the console version was best set for F2P. it would have satisfied both markets to maintain p2p on pc and f2p on consoles, one of which was already supporting the game.

i literally have no trust in zos, so i won't lose sleep over canceling (this apathy is a first for me). the article was a pretty good one. ill probably be canceling post1.6 if it comes before march 17. there really isn't a whole lot of point to subscribe for the reasons in that article. i won't feel bad about "sticking it to the man" though that isn't my intent. after all, they made their bed now they can sleep in it.
I just hope that once this game fails, and it will, that they hire a competent team to make a decent version. A real TES MMO not a WoW clone with a TES skin.

If they continue to demonstrate shoddy ethics, I'll quit and uninstall because I refuse to endorse that sort of business behavior, and subscribing is inherently an endorsement.

Otherwise, if I continue to enjoy the game, I will continue to subscribe. I'm old and retired and I need something to waste my time...

When the game ceases to be enjoyable, I'll quit and uninstall, and find some other way to waste my time... like chasing younger women (at my age, they're all younger). I'm in good shape for my age, but I'll never catch them, so it's a complete waste of time... much more expensive than subscribing to a game for $15/month, too.

They are providing no value for the sub on day 1. Its an interesting decision but I can't see why anyone would want to stay subbed. I might sub after a year or so when they have 2 or 3 content patches to get.

Not yet but you can contribute and get in the alpha that is going on. Server is up 24/7 for the most part. It's touted as Ultima zonline and SWG. Housing included in the game. Zos said housing is couple years yet before being considered.

This may be my next game, even in alpha.

I've done a little alpha testing of the repop. It's scratching my swg itch...

I know quite a few people with consoles. I dont know even a single person who has a xbox one or ps4 who doesnt already pay for ps+ or xbox live gold. This whole thing about console people not paying is hogwash.

Actually, it's not. If you read what he says... he's saying that console owners aren't going to want to pay for Xbox Live / PS Plus AND another $15 on top...

    l2r

That was my point genius. Console gamers would have paid for both. Considering they already pay for xbox live gold or ps+ it wouldnt be any more money. Again its hogwash console gamers are cheap and wont spend money on a monthly sub.

The 1500 crowns a month alone is enough for me. The other bonuses are just that a bonus. Even tho $15 a mo is not alot to me I dont just flush it down the toilet either. They better be putting out alot of DLC content in a short amount of time.

    They won't though.

I need some more clarification how much 1500 crowns actually is and how much a DLC will cost.

I like the game and its direction. For years I though Dungeon Runners was the second coming of MMOs, but NCSoft didn't quite do so well maintaining it and then poor business decisions forced its closure.

I like watching history in the making and being a part of it is critical. I sure regret my participation in the evolution or regression of battle.net and I want to help avoid making another one. Hind sight is not only 20/20, its also hypocritical.

I don't have a reason as of yet to stay subbed after the update. Initially, we (my husband and I) will give them a timeframe to provide additional content and compare buy cost vs sub cost.

The *selfish* player in me couldn't really give a skeevers dung if their console launch fails or not. I'm a pc player so ZOS needs to keep me interested enough to continue and that launch has no bearing on my play......however thinking outside my own box, I realize the game has to succeed as a whole.

As for 1.6...my main is a Sorc and and I'm a PVE player. So...those 2 reasons alone are pushing me from ESO. I'm* tired of nerfs because of PVP. I'm to the point I actually hope they never balance it, and it always stays buggy and those people just quit! (yes, again this is me just being selfish and tired of being kicked over an aspect I don't even play).......but as it stands if it goes live the way it is now, 1.6 is not impressive enough for me to remain subbed possibly 6 months waiting for new actual content (by content I mean new PVE zones)

On a completely random note, my Sorc is also my provisioner. In PTS my sweetrolls were turned in some d**n cat food, and I didn't see a sweetroll recipe anywhere. So assuming they aren't a v10 food I simply haven't found yet.....ZOS has stolen my sweetrolls all the way around with this new LIMITED version of their game.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

In short, blank this. End of an era. Not specifically for this game, but for sub based MMOs. Go die MMOs, because you're dead to me already.

Indeed, the days of a pure sub-based game seem to be gone. I don't know of a single MMO without at least some trappings of f2p.

And, I finally read the article linked in the OP. Just as I thought, it's biased--the same could be written about pretty much any game.

Um. Does anyone know of a game that donates a lot of their profit to non-profit organizations?

The problem I'm having is with the growing amount of atrocities occurring worldwide, and the increasing of government oppression/powermongering worldwide, it's harder and harder for me to justify spending money on entertainment. We live in dark times that are going to get very much darker.

Having had up to 11 or so subs running for different MMOs at the same time (6 just for EvE!), $15 more or less don't make a big difference.
However, like I dropped my subs and quit EvE when CCP did un-ethical choices like announcing charging 3rd party freeware add ons developers for some self made idea of license, I am going to (re)drop my subs to ESO. A game made by a company who used their customers to fund their 1 year long post-release beta.
$15 is nothing. Integrity is all.

Edit: lol reading the post above, it reminded me I play a Sorc too. This alone grants unsubbing after what they have done to us @patch 1.6.
