1.6 new criminal line Legerdemain and Treasure chest achievements.

The new line awards rank points for opening chests. Please do not miss the chance to RETROACTIVELY calculate the starting value of this skill for those who have 1000+ chests open (there is an achievement for that). It does not have to be a 1 to 1 conversion.

Thus far every place where you should have retroactively awarded points, you have not (Undaunted for example).

It's not clear that the chests from this new achievement are the same we are used to. It seems for the new achievement, the chests should be marked to steal from this. Have not seen this, so I'm just assuming, but it makes sense to the new Justice system.

Why not just earn the skill line by playing the system? It would be hard for them to add character progression to the game if they keep retroactively giving people points in new skill lines based on things that sort of relate to whatever they add.

That aside the new system is supposed to be a challenge to earn the new skills... treasure chests as they are provide no challenge at all if you understand the lock pick system.

If it is based on the same chests that grant the treasure chest achievements, it wouldn't be difficult for ZOS to grant skill in this based on chests already opened. In many of the cases where they haven't retroactively granted progress towards skill lines or achievements it hasn't been clear if it was even possible for them to do so, as it wasn't clear if it was something that they even tracked before. With chests, however, we know that they've been tracking them, as otherwise we wouldn't be able to have the achievements.

Now should they grant skill retroactively based on that? Well, I'm not sure of that. I'll have to play around on the PTS before I make my own judgement on that question.

100% disagree to retroactively rewarding Legerdemain rank points based on how many treasure chests you have already opened.

Any treasure chests you opened prior to 1.6 had no negative repercussions to your actions. Since there is little to no challenge to lock picking once you understand how it works, treasure chests were just free loot for the taking.

Now with the Justice system in place there are repercussions to your actions. Opening treasure chests is still simple and zero challenge. Skill rank gain in Legerdemain should be based on how much you engage in thievery activities after the Justice system is in place and there are negative repercussions for your actions.

I opened several chests today, same ones from before 1.6. They are not marked as owned. For this achievement, you almost certainly need to 'steal' from a chest.

Actually no. Only reason is these two achievements are not the same. The Legermain-related achievements is based on the fact that you need to "steal" from a chest. Normal lockpicking chests you find in the world does not.

Different requirements, different achievements. And I am okay with this, considering I've done the 1000 lockpicking chest achievement as well.
