Long time fan since, well oblivion. not sure if you folks can call that a long time fan but sure.

I've never played a MMO like this before. Sure, i've played Dayz, rust and the like.

How different is this to obvlivion/skyrim? is it the same as in, big map to explore, either do the main quest line or do side quests, or just go dungeon hunting. or, this being a mmo, does it play in a completely different way?

The map is certainly very big, a lot bigger than those of other Elder Scrolls games. However it's divided in parts.

There is a main quest line, guild skill lines and dungeons just like in the other games.

Keep in mind that, this being an MMO, is less immersive, less detailed, but more social than the other games.

I'm sure you'll have fun with it.
May knowledge guide you to enlightenment

I don't think it's all that less immersive. Sometimes there are people around who disrupt zone chat, but once you get out of the first zone it's not much of a problem.

If you don't put to much stock in some of the forum users, you'll be fine.
Been here since Feb 2014 - You'd think I'd be half reasonable at this game by now...

The graphics are great in ESO but the scale and color of things seem worse than Skyrim. For example; The scale of buildings and objects are smaller yet cover larger distances which look odd. While Skyim has buildings and objects perfectly scaled in size, width, and area it occupies. The color for ESO is a bit bland and not vibrant. Skyrim has a good amount of realistic shades of color without looking too bland.

The movement of ESO is a bit sloppy, by this I mean if I go into 1st person view I can look around but my character stays in a static position so other players will never know what I am truly looking at. The speed of which the characters run is too fast and doesn't fluidly gain speed at an immersive level.

The map of ESO is small and sectioned off from other areas, so we need loading screens. If they had more areas like Cyrodiil for questing the experience of the game would greatly increase.

ESO has and is going to make improvements and add new areas. The game is looking better each month, really glad ZoS is taking care of the game.
