Ultra settings will now require a video card with 2GB of VRAM

I get 14FPS in sieges and high 20s-low 30s in crowded cities on my GTX 970.

Yeah, i have a 2GB Card and 16GB Ram and the performance in cyrodiil is worse than ever. it goes down to under 10 FPS now. And i'm playing on almost the lowest settings. everything off or at minimum. view distance at 45, texture quality at medium and subsampling at high. game looks awful, but i need every single fps i can squeeze out.

I'm sure you'll still be able to use custom settings and set them as high as you want. They probably did this just to make people aware of the graphical load that comes along with the "Ultra" preset.

Ultra does crank the view distance to 100% which I find has a huge hit on performance without much actual visual gain. Personally I use Ultra right now but dial the view distance back to 50% to get more FPS.

I get 50-60FPS in town or outside in normal fights, and 25-60FPS (usually on the higher end) in Cyro depending on how much is happening on screen. If I leave the view distance at 100% I'd see about 10 less FPS in both cases.

Yeah something's not right with that. I run a 770 with 2GB and get about double what you're describing. Either you're running a slow processor which is creating a bottleneck, or you've got something else running on your computer slowing things down.

No problems here on my old system, W7 64Bit, GTX660 2GB Vram, 8Gb sys ram, Q6600 Quad 2.3 gHz. Everything is maxed out on ultra and 100% view distance, not had to drop anything. I do have 100 mbps Superhub fibre optic lan connection so maybe that helps.

i don't think so. ESO was running way better on an older laptop that pretty much only had half of the specs of this one. then the new lighting system came along and everyone had problems. Some could fix it, some not. I was never able to get around that cyrodiil fps problem. It got better, but if it goes down, it goes down.

This is a pretty decent gaming laptop and ESO is poorly programmed. I have awesome fps most of the time, even in cyrodiil, but in large battles and zergs it goes down to a point where it's not acceptable anymore. And since it's zerg fest everyday, i have these issues everyday.

My system has so much more potential, but ESO can't make full use of it.

I'm sure there is more room for optimization in Cyrodiil, but there's only so much they can do. Having dozens (hundreds) of players on screen is going to slow things down no matter which way you look at it.

All I'm saying is I wouldn't set my expectations too high and blame the game when running a M series Nvidia card.

You sure it's not overheating? Laptops are notorious for getting blocked up with dust and then running in a restricted performance mode when the heat builds. Try blasting compressed air through the vents, watch that big cloud of dust emerge then test it out, you may be surprised. Good luck!

4GB here. Get up to par or get down and stay down.

I'm on 'par', my game has run fine on Ultra for the last 10 months.
Now, if they were to say they tweaked the rendering/processing of certain GFX, I could see it.

But to force someone to lower their settings, when in fact they were running fine for the last year, is a ***-poor decision.

I get 80+ FPS right now on Ultra, and can play any game on the market in high settings, windowed mode, with a secondary monitor for social media.

    Some fixes for low fps,

♦ Close the launcher manually after game start.

♦ Set permission of 'eso.exe' to admin, and use it for future launch except when there are new updates. (C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online EU\game\client)

    Disable core parking

Set priority 'high' on the 'eso.exe' process

Already did all this and other tweaks, that does not help. ESO is just not using the power my system offers. I mean there's over 12GB Ram left to use, but ESO won't touch it.
What relevance has system memory got to this issue I wonder?

Well, I'm running Custom Laptop (3.5 years old)
    1. Win7 - 64bit
    2. i7 Quad
    3. M460 Graphics
    4. 8Gig Ram
    5. Resolution: 1920x1200
    6. Settings: Mostly on Medium with a couple of High.

PvE is absolutely fine - although occasional lag from Dolmens but nothing huge.
PvP fine until 20-30+ people fighting at once and Frame Rate dies :(

But then, I refuse to pay £300 for a new GFX card :|

Because ZOS is operating under the misguided and generally incorrect assumption that performance issues aren't on their end but are caused by players running the game on a higher-than-optimal graphics setting.

Imagine them scratching their heads and throwing their hands up in disbelief when--shockingly--performance is still regarded as poor in Cyrodiil and elsewhere.

I get 14FPS in sieges and high 20s-low 30s in crowded cities on my GTX 970.

Maybe they need to make Ultra require an 8GB GPU? Since it's obviously a VRAM issue...

.....why do I get better performance with my HD 7850 1GB than you do with your 970....something here isn't right.

I just went out and bought an i7-4790k last night because I was tired of my Fx-6300 holding me back.

In a giant fight in Cyrodil last night, my FPS never dipped below 30. In crowded towns it was between 45-60.

I'm never going AMD again. It just doesn't have the umph to handle CPU intensive games like this.

This a thousand times! I haven't ever looked back to AMD after my early 2000 run with them. AMD does not match what Intel does for gaming. Reading over benchmarks will show you how even a I3 man handles AMD. Always buy Intel CPUs and Nvidia GFX.

Hey guys, wanted to pop in and provide some clarification on this note. We've added a ton of new NPCs for the Justice System, which are using up more VRAM. The 2GB of VRAM was more of a recommendation than a hard requirement (we'll edit the wording in the patch notes to reflect this) - you are still free to choose Ultra if you have less than 2GB. That said, if you experience any hitching, you can try lowering the draw distance which should help.

    Thanks Gina.

I'm very glad that the purpose of this was not to 'fix' Cyrodiil, as those problems are clearly more server-based.

Maybe people with sub-2GB video cards will give pause to consider an upgrade with this new recommendation.

I'm pretty sure the last 3 video cards I've had all used 2GBs of Ram... Currently I'm running a GTX 570... will be moving to a 970 shortly.

I believe almost every video card on the market has a 2GB option now... or some model has that option.
