Cyrodill (PvP) practice, for the not very good.

I've finally got my only character, a Nightblade, to VR14 playing through the main storyline, Cadwell's Silver/Gold and mucking about in Craglorn. Since most of the population of Craglorn seem to be grinding through its Spellscar zone I though I'd have a wander around Cyrodill and try some of the quests there.

I haven't got my head around the siege warfare aspects of the game yet (having played most of the main content solo with the odd bit of grouping) but that may come in time. The PvP aspects of Cryodill are appealing to me but I do seem to be rather unprepared.

I've only had a few PvP encounters, all of which have been very brief and exceedingly terminal (the last being a werewolf that knocked me off my feet in a dungeon, then killed me before I'd even managed to get back up). Now I had to learn different strategies and level up different skills to survive in Craglorn, but there are plenty of opportunities for practice. In Cyrodill I hardy every meet another player and when I do I'm dead in an instant, revive miles away and then spend forever wandering around again. I guess that all the players I meet will be geared up for, and experienced in, PvP and will dispose of me with familiar rapidity; I'm finding it difficult to get any meaningful practice in before expiring.

Had do people hone their PvP skills (turning up at a siege tends to be an even briefer experience than random encounters)? I could do with some sort of Arena/practice area for new PvPers; does such a thing exist or do I just need to do it the hard way?

Every character has an ability called 'break free'. It is by default activated by pressing both mouse buttons at the same time (same as bashing). This ability allows you to instantly recover from any crowd control effect, including being knocked down. It has a high stamina cost tho. I suggest you rebind the ability to an easily reachable key, and get very good at instinctively pressing it in 0.1 seconds after someone hits you with a crowd control effect.

Also, blocking will prevent most crowd control effects from affecting you in the firstplace(except for fears and soft-CC like roots and snares)

Best bet is to hook up with a guild that's willing to pass on their experience.

Not only will you learn a lot but you have others covering your backside while you get accustomed to life in Cyrodil.

Being in a group, even better an organised group, will make the pvp experience a whole lot more fun and successful. Grab TeamSpeak and find yourself a pvp guild.

I have also found the non-vet campaign to be good practice. If you create a new character, you can go in there at level ten and learn some of the basics without being too underpowered.

The fasteat way is jump into Cyrodil and find your sides Zerg. Run around with them. Focus on your positioning in fights and helping your allies. There are guides you can look up also.

For the EU Aldemeri players I run teamspeak pvp groups.
Casual PvP on Tuesdays and veteran on Wednesdays.

If your group is bigger than 6 members gain 75% damage reduction.

Write this on the back of your box and see how many sales you get!

You won't get any new PvP players until this archaic AoE crap is fixed.
I for one won't resub until:
    1.) You fix lag.
2.) You remove AOE caps we voted against.
3.) 12 months have passed (this is how long we've waited for you to 'get with it')[/b]

I think you just described most peoples experience when they first go to Cyrodiil. You may need to change your gear and some of the skills you use and then just keep trying.
Find some good, experienced players and learn anything you can. Be open minded to any feedback they give you.

I can see that I'm going to be seriously rubbish at PvP; I seem to be getting trounced by everyone.

    Practice. Practice. Practice.

Go to the highest population server. Go to where all the big battles are happening. If you want to practice small combat, fight along the edges of the big battle. There will be tons of 2v2 and 3v3 or even 1v1 situations happening (mostly ranged). When the battle takes a turn and the enemy storms into your keep, you get to practice close area combat.

The more you are in combat, the more experience you get. It really is all about practice. After playing PVP a few weeks, your fingers will never hesitate and you will know what to do in certain situations.
