@ZOS - Will VR Ranks be phased out or not?

We've all gone with the assumption that VR ranks would disappear with 1.7, but now with Sagey & Co stating that 1.6 will be the final release before console hits, I'm wondering if we'll ever be rid of them at all?
1.7 would've made sense IF it had come out prior to console release, but ideally you'd want your game to be in a fixed state by the time it hits consoles. By that logic, it makes nonsense to go to consoles using a hated and soon to be redundant VR system... Unless of course that system is staying in game permanently?
I hope it isn't, I'd love for VR to go, and for Champion System to replace it as level cap progression, but I'd also love our console cousins not to have to witness VR if it's going anyway as it makes no sense confusing them with a soon to be redundant system.
So could ZOS clarify please? Are VR levels staying or going? And can we get an eta (pre or post console) on when this might happen?

✭IMHO that when 1.6 drops on live for PC/Mac, March 17, that sometime between then and when the Console drops on June 9th, they will most likely have a update (not a DLC) that will remove Veteran ranks.
Now unless ZOS does not completely care about the PC/Mac Online game they will do that.

I think that they will separate VR levels disappearance from 1.7 and it will probably hit PC live servers before console release labeled 1.6.x or whatever. I assume by the time the console release they will launch with this 1.6.x build without VR levels but yet to receive the full Justice system with 1.7 (which I doubt will make it in time for release after so much 1.6 delay).0 -
