Zenimax, regarding your stance on "Convenience Items"...

football teams need money for a lot of stuff. a lot of the stuff that makes the difference between a good amateur and a pro is money related.
same goes for politicians, do you really think money doesnt play a role in all that stuff? do you really think all the campaigns are just because they have fun doing them?
in real life, money is important.

But still, even in the most commercial sports or sport events, teams can't e.g. go and buy 10% bonus to powerplay duration. I harbour no illusions and am pretty sure if it was introduced, players and coaches would eventually go around talking trash much in the same way as trio in ESO live about how it's cool and how it will help teams that can't train so hard because they have families and blah blah blah...but it's not yet there so most people would say it would be disgusting, utter denial of any notion of fair play and sportsmanship.

The world to me is going to feel broken up into micro transactions, not immersive just a theme park with fast passes, novelty cups, and carnival games.

Oh that's awesome where you get that?.....Crown store 3000pts. Oh...=/

How you do that Emote?....Emote pack in Crown store....

Even if Non P2W, Content/Items are blocked through a pay wall. Sub or Micro trans.

I'm not into mounts/pets/costumes/BOOSTERS LAME, but the whole idea just kills world for me.

there is no difference in football.
there is a lot of pro material on the streets, but lacking the money to get anywhere in life. same goes for medical treatment if something bad happens. dont let me even start with "if you die of hunger, you will never be able to become a pro.".
you need money for almost everything. even death is expensive nowadays.
if your issue is the fear of someone paying money alone and beeing "stronger & better" than you, fear not.
experience playing the game is a big part of how good you are, and even stuff like xp boosters require you to play the game.
100% more experience for one hour is still zero experience if you dont play the game.

Players with more time still have advantage over with players with more money. I haven't seen anything that would put this game even close to situation where players with unlimited money and 1-2 hours of game time per day could compete with people who can play 10+ hours. Even with the 10% boost casual players can't get anywhere close.

In football you can get 10% time savers also. If you got money, you don't have to spend so much time traveling to practices or games (car vs cycling/bus/walking). It's easily 10% time saver. It doesn't not make the player with car 10% better player, but he just needs to spend a bit less time for the hobby. Completely same situation than where ESO is going.

Steroids are a performance boosting drug in sports...last I recall they were a banned substance in sports.

If subs didnt hold an automatic 10% boost to XP Gain, Gold Gain and Crafting. Id probably be angry as an Ogre here. But I guess knowing subs will have built in boosts themselves Im not too upset with the idea of boosts in the Cash Shop. My only concern is if these boosts are better than the sub holders boosts. Then Ill probably have some things to say that will probably need multiple proofings before hitting the Post Comment button.

In other words, it is ok to buy your advantage via a sub, but not via a cash shop? I think that's where we differ.

Actually I was saying that the sub advantage makes cash shop boosts okay in my opinion*. I dont see where I made a mistake in how I represented that in the quoted comment.

*As long as Cash Shop Boosts are not better then sub boost.

Are the store boosts going to stack with the sub boosts or will it be which ever boost gives more is what you get?

For instance, let's say the store boosts give you 5% xp gain and the sub gives you 10%. Are you now getting 15% if you use it?

If not, and you still only get your 10% then that means those items are useless for "subs"

Either scenario can lead to potentially bad things IMHO

subs with $$$$ to burn will have all the "perks" and have more of everything available which will lead to riots on here.

Not having them stack will take away potential $$$$ made from the store because subs can't use these items

    *snip*

    Sigh...

What it boils down to is that this game is already going Buy-to-Play, the convenience items are coming, whether you or me like that. There's no going back no, so these discussions are quite pointless really

Progression boosts are not worth the effort and energy to discuss here. They're not Pay-to-Win in the strict sense of things, since you won't feel the difference. You don't know whether the person you're facing in PvP has used an XP boost or not. It's not going to affect you.

There is a fine line between that and Pay-to-Win which is very distinct and very noticable in competitive environments like PvP.

Kind of you to form the general definition of P2W.

Here's mine: if something helps you win more than others, it is pay 2 win.

Having more XP, gold, AP etc indirectly helps you win more, and thus is P2W.

You might argue "well, it's not as pay2win as these other things", and you'd be right.

You might not notice it, but you'd have to partake in that activity if you wanted to compete in the highest levels of play.

They are still P2W, and this is where many people draw the line when it comes to B2P/F2P MMOs.

As you said, they are likely to come. As long as people keep tolerating them, to which I'm seeing no end.

They arent 'winning' more. P2W indicates someones gaining things you cant gain without a specific purchase. ie weapons, abilities and gear.

This seems more like you just want to be angry with the cash shop and you found something to grab on to and rage about. At this point. If the store is this big of an issue for you. Then maybe its time for you to contemplate whether you should walk away. The game isnt going anywhere and you already own the game. So at any point you could always load up the launcher, log in and see if the game is to your liking once things fully change.

I agree that the gold boost should be removed though. That one is outrageous.

If you buy no advantages at all. Thats your choice. But Id argue that since youre only providing the company with the least amount of money to play their game. You forfeit the financial right to object to them in the store.

A very short summary of the "pay to win" philosophy.

I dont think you understand what pay to win means. I dont think you or the OP understand the difference between what we have and what youre claiming. And Im starting to wonder if either of you have ever experienced a F2P/B2P game before.

Pay 2 Win is the means to use real money to purchase items, weapons, and armor that can not be found elsewhere or takes an extremely long time to gain within the game. These items give the player an observable advantage over other players.

Having a boost to your XP, to your Gold Gain, Crafting and so forth. Is minimal and will more then likely not have a substantial effect on anyone besides yourself. Theres a reason the Devs chose these. Theyre localized and so small. If you were to earn 25 coins for a quest, or 250 coins for a quest. How much would you make with a Gold Gain Boost? Its 2.5 gold and 25 gold.

Yeah...Yeah now I can see what you mean by having an advantage over people. I mean these people are going to run all over us with their extra 25 gold. These jerks really did make it PAY TO WIN!!!! !!!! !!!.

    /sarcasm

On the other hand. A boost to Damage, Defense and other stats that do effect other players would be a P2W scenario. And since its too early to have any idea as to what theyll be putting into the store boost wise. Anyone freaking out about it is a bit premature.

Sure, you could get anything without paying, eventually. The catch here is that it would cost you time, which obviously makes it impossible for a free player playing for same amount of time as paying player to keep up and usually also makes it impossible for free player to keep up even if he plays 24/7, which would be crazy to begin with.
Therefore, cash shop is inevitably P2W, despite the lack of overpowered exlusive weapons, armour atc. These are not there for sole reason PR people can then keep dronning "there are no weapons/armour therefore it's not p2w" fallacy.

I can see the less competitive players thinking that way.

However, to me the very notion that someone is in any way better or more efficient because they spent $$$, is disgusting. If I have earned something through hard work & dedication to the game, no one else should be able to just buy their way through that. It lessens my experience.

Secondly, I don't play games just to be good at them or have fun. I do things to be at the very top of everything, I dedicate countless hours to achieve that, only to learn that some noobs will always have bigger XP rate & bigger gold rate than I do because they spend 200$/day in booster potions.
