My thoughts about the upcoming changes to the game, and why you should stay

After ZOS informed us about the upcoming changes to the game a few days ago, I needed some time to think about it, but I kept reading the forums.
I'm not quite sure why so many people say they'll unsub and leave the game. Or why people are saying it's not worth it to stay subbed.

We won't lose anything by staying subscribed; on the contrary, with a subscription we'll get new content like new zones "for free" (means not paying extra besides of the sub fee for new content). Not sure if you guys noticed, but that's what we already had since launch anyway, that's the way it was, there's nothing new to it.

Non subscribed players after update 1.6 will not get any new content, only bug fixes and the "regular" maintenance since it's still the same server anyways (if not on console). That's how I understand it, and besides of English is not my language, I'm still sure I did not misunderstand anything.

What I think many people have problems with is the fact that the game, after purchasing it, will be f2p for those who are not subscribed. This irritates many current subscribers and makes them feel like being used and paying for 9 months beta testing. But that's not the case.
At least most of the time the game was playable as intended, wasn't it? It's not like we're jumping from bug to bug constantly. I think I had pretty much all of the bugs existed since launch (and still have a few which were in the game during beta already, but these are minor), but I'm still passionately playing the game and enjoying it very much.

I do understand that big projects like the Imperial City etc. can take longer than expected to be done and finally released with the smallest amount of bugs possible.
First I was concerned about this promised content not showing up in the game by end of 2014. But, it seems like all these things are coming soon for sure, and not just one but even several big changes (like the Imperial City, Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, Provisioning revamp, etc.) which kinda evens out what we were missing and waiting for in 2014.

Imagine they would have thrown this content in the game before it's working properly. So please let the devs do and finish their job, we will get what we've paid for.
And we got so much already what we've paid for; just look at the game as it is at the moment and as it has grown by now, there's so much to do and to see, and to feel. Watching the scenery, admiring the stunning environment, enjoying the story or even surpressing tears during a tragic story in a quest, picking flowers, watching the sunset, selling and buying items, crafting your own sets of different kinds of armor in different styles and even dying them in colors from a huge palette, seeing all these different zones, ..
I think it's kinda sad that many players have forgotten that the "basic" game itself has already a HUGE amount of content to play. The monthly fees we already paid were certainly not for nothing.

Other new (upcoming) content like new mounts or costumes are available in the cash shop in which we use crowns to pay for these. Of what I understood, earning them shouldn't be too hard, just stay subscribed. If it wasn't too expensive in the past, why should it be now?

I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun with the new content. And personally, I'm looking forward to my Guar mount (AND even a Guar pet without a plush attached^^) which I was craving for since launch ;)

Exactly. Apart from shiny pets and costumes, there won't be anything new for the next 6-12 months. No dungeons to fight through, no new zones to explore, this is the end of game development for a while.

To be honnest, I'm not sure to understand why they are releasing Tamriel Unlimited in march 2015, as the console launch is in june 2015 and that we know for sure that the first DLC will not be avalaible before July as earliest date.

I personaly do not see a good reason for me to stay suscribed before the first DLC is released ....

like I keep saying and I hope ZOS thinks about it a bit, as long as I still have value for my sub I am sticking around, I hope the store never has things I need to level or advance my toon, I don't have a problem paying for that fancy mount or costume above my sub price that's is my choice and only optional. If they stick to what they say there should not be a problem, being subbed should always be the best way to go, for the most perks. imho.

Since they said development will be slower after 1.6 hits, that means that no DLC will be released for some time. So if you keep a sub going you are paying for nothing more than a wedding dress to wear in Cyrodiil. Everyone for months have been talking about Thieves Guild, The Dark Brotherhood, the Imperial City and so on but those will not make it in the game for some time and even longer if this B2P doesn't work out. I know others have payed more than this MMO and have seen what sort of crap happens but maybe it won't happen here in ESO. I would like to say that I'll remain a subscription based player but there's no incentive to do that since they are saying well we aren't giving you new content really in 1.6 and maybe nothing in 1.7. I've read that the Justice system will be in PVE but not in PVP, the real question is when.

I would love to say that the Crown Shop would make me want the keep an active subscription but from the sounds of it, it won't. I don't care about costumes or pet or a f*&*&*ng guar mount. I want something different in PVE or a new zone like Craglorn. But I know they released a beta and have been trying to work out a ton of issues too. So this will more than likely not happen until fourth quarter of 2015. The only real thing we can do is wait, and leave @ZOS_GinaBruno alone she has been getting the raw end of this deal hear on the forums.

Because we have been beta testing with a sub the last year. No Reason to stop now.

No development after 1.6 hits is because they're going to wait for console players (who generally spend much less time playing) to level up & exhaust the content (AA, Hel Ra, SO, etc etc).
    Might take a while...

After that, I'd be surprised if we get content released even once a month.

I'd be even more surprised if this content was more than "random casual adventure that scales to your level" and a pink guar mount for your "Skyrim with friends".

It should be obvious to everyone that the PC audience doesn't matter to them in the slightest, especially the most dedicated portion that has already accomplished everything in game.

I sincerely regret voting for ESO in the MMO awards.

Sheesh. Its so tiresome to read these "it's all going to get better" posts, then scan through the post and see they either haven't read, or at least aren't acknowledging, the many, many posts in this forum laying out why so many people have huge problems with the move. You just pick and choose whatever suits your very thin argument, without any effort on even touching on the many, many issues with the model and ZOS's treatment of its customers. What a waste of time.

    blah blah blah

Nah. I have no problem with the sub model, I think that's a great idea. This game needs an extended "trial". The nail in the coffin will be the cash shop, and the lack of content. The game is already stale, there's really nothing worth doing anyway... Cyrodiil here and there until you get zerged too much by nubs, then log.

This game NEEDS content, lots and lots of content. It needs overhauls, balance changes.... it needs alot of work. Instead, we're going to get french maid costumes and potions on the Crown store.

I think once they get into making money from DLC, then the DLC will need to be of a much higher quality (read far less buggy), than current patches.

This may actually get them to up their game and do some quality control. If they get a rep for buggy DLC, that would be very bad for business indeed.

Also when DLC becomes a source of income, you can be quite sure that they cater to all groups of players, not just the more dedicated crowd. Or else they don't sell as much DLC.

This really could turn out for the best.

Still im at a total loss why I should subscribe between now and console release. Guess they plan to have no income for a few months.

When I bought the game, I was told $15/month gets me content every 4-6 weeks.

Right now, $15/ month gets me pink horses and stupid hats until at least AFTER June 2015.

That's 6 months of no new content! No reason to stay subbed!
Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only." People should not be consecutively crowd controlled in a PvP setting. Period.

Some have said six months until new content, but that is understated given the last new content came Nov, 7th. That means no new content, with the exception of wedding dressed, for at least 8 months and that's living in the illusion that they will actually have DLC day one of console launch, very unlikely. The more likely scenario is that no new content is likely for 10-12 months which begs the question, why keep subscribing. Honestly I am a six month subscriber and by the time my sub ends I should have somewhere in the realm of 4500 crowns for all of my dedication, is that really worth it, why should I continue to subscribe to a game that is likely not to give any new playable content for 4 or 5 more months past the end of my current subscription, what value am I getting for my cash, that's 60-75 dollars, more than enough to pay for the first few DLC's? Please give me an answer I love this game, but this makes me feel like I am being swindled for being a dedicated player.

So many people that can predict the future with such amazing accuracy! Knowing exactly what ZOS is going to do many months in advance...

You are all wasting your considerable talents in these forums. You should be making a killing in the stock market, or picking winning lottery numbers, or ... something like that $$$.

At least, that's what I would be doing if I had those super powers.
