Who can wear v14 gear?

So will a level 50 be able to wear v14 gear or is there something to unlock in the champion system first?

Veteran Ranks are not being eliminated in 1.6, so it won't be an issue for a little bit here. The last time the developers talked about the transition, they mentioned that they're still figuring out how gear is going to be leveled to prevent fresh level 50s from immediately being able to put on the best gear.

So the new champion system isn't coming in 1.6 or it just isn't replacing the vet ranks?

The latter. We will have a Champion System in 1.6, and Veteran Ranks will still be part of the game. The developers said they want to balance out the Champion System on a large scale before fully removing VR from the game.

Champion system will be tacked on top of the vet system for 1.6 but ves system will be removed in 1.7
It's supposed to help make a smooth transition.

Well, since ZO$ has pretty much confirmed that there won't be a major update until game launches on consoles and after that they'll probably wait console users to reach VRs and get tired of the system, I think it's gonna be more than "a little bit".

Champion system will be introduced in 1.6, and will exist parallel to the current vet ranks for a time. Vet ranks will be removed in a future phase of the champ system. There is no release timeline yet for that final phase. (One that you'll presumably have to buy separately to see in the "improved" Tamriel al la carte model)

Assuming that they eliminate VR when they release the game on console (a very likely scenario, in my view), that's just a few months of the combined system. Maybe I've just lived longer than some others on this board, but a few months is "a little bit" in my book.

It's good that you're hopeful about ZO$. I am not and even if I really want that to happen, I really doubt it will happen.

Veteran ranks will be around for a long, long time. I'd be surprised if 1.7 hits live before Q4 2015.

I'd suspect Q3. But it depends on how well the console launch goes.

If it goes well, I wouldn't be surprised if they get rid of the VR levels within a couple of months.

However like many I rather doubt it will go that well, I think they will find at least a couple of big bugs, and hundreds of little ones. Not to mention I suspect balancing the CPs will be more complicated than they expect.

So yeah, Starkerealm's Q3 is most likely.

There has been no info on how they are going to do gear with VR1-VR14... will it all become level 50?

What will happen to gear like warlock that has vr1 and vr12 sets? We don't know.

Possibility they make gear sets in future that you have to be Champ level 1000/2000/3000 and over to wear. We have no idea at the moment.

From Matt Frior on today's reddit AMA.

    http://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/2tfb48/welcome_to_the_eso_tamriel_unlimited_aua/cnym1sh

"We are not going to keep up our 2014 pace of updates in 2015 - and our future update pace will focus more on new adventures and game experiences than system changes. It's time to let the game breathe a little - we've done so many new features so quickly that we want to make sure everyone is on the same page with us. 1.6 alone has a complete rebalancing of most player abilities - we don't want to do that again, for example. Our #1 priority right now is getting Tamriel Unlimited launched on PC, and then focusing on a successful console launch. While we do those things, we have other teams already working on DLC and expect to see that start rolling out at some point after console launch settles down.

..1.6 is going to be the last major update before console launch, for obvious reasons. We will continue to do interim updates as necessary. As Paul said in another thread on this AMA, we're now developing for 4 platforms at once, and it is inherently more complex. We're committed to having content hit all the platforms at roughly the same time, so it will necessarily slow things down a bit."

Removal of VR is the biggest possible rebalancing act of all - affecting all aspects of zone, mob and character scaling, crafting, armour and weapons. It isn't in 1.6, it won't be in the console launch, ZoS don't want to rebalance players again, ZoS are concentrating on new DLC...

ZoS are busy talking about 1.6, console launch, game shop, "new adventures". It is noticeable that they are not talking about anything that introduces balancing issues: PvP justice, spellcrafting and the removal of VR.

It all adds up to a long wait before VR are removed (if ever).

The console release is just 1.6 on the consoles, so saying that it is likely that VR will be removed when the console is released is just plain wrong.

ZoS have said they will be concentrating on new content following the console release, and that the releases will occur at the same time across all platforms.

VR will NOT be removed when they release on console.

While we know that ZoS can't be trusted to keep to schedule for releasing new features (new drops every 4-6 weeks?), unfortunately I think we can believe them when they tell us that they won't be implementing anything new until after the console release has settled down.

They never said the console release is 1.6. They said the following: 1.6 will be released before the Crown Store goes live on March 17th; the console release will be June 9th.

That still gives almost 3 months for 1.7 to go live. They haven't said 1.7 will go live before the console release, but they also have not said 1.7 will not go live before the console release.

I personally think it's hard to believe they'd release on console with a halfway implemented Champion System. They have 3 months to iron out 1.6, release 1.7, and issue a patch or 2. That's plenty of time.

It would not surprise me at all if they do a full flip-flop on VR removal after Console Live.

The artificial extension of the top tier offers too much incentive to buy, meaning buy to skip the tread-mill and or advance up the curve.

One day sooner then we all think they will offer a fresh VR14 (or equivalent faux-max level level character for $80.00.. and if you act quick and buy in the next day a 200 pack of skill points for and extract $20.00.

    Shudder.

The removal of VR is the biggest single revision possible - it affects everything from scaling zones to armour to crafting to materials. It affects the potions you can drink, the food you can eat, the glyphs you can use to enchant your armour.

So yes, they have said that 1.7 will not go live before the console release!
