Seeking clarification on alt characters in different alliances

Can anyone confirm the rules / restrictions around having alts in different alliances all able to pvp, or provide a link to a definitive answer?

Having trouble finding a clear answer to this and I would really like to start alliance wars with one character without permanently preventing my other characters from taking part.

    1 faction per 'home' setting.
Alts can 'travel to' other campaigns either with group queue or traveling to players in that campaign.

Not if you have ANY Cross-Faction Character with said Campaign set to either Home or Guest. You will get an error no matter how you try and enter Cyro, even porting to a Group/Guild member. It's simply this, and it's horribly annoying if you have Characters in all 3 Factions:

AD > can only enter Campaigns unassigned or assigned to AD Characters.
EP > can only enter Campaigns unassigned or assigned to EP Characters.
DC > can only enter Campaigns unassigned or assigned to DC Characters.

That means if you have 1-VR14 and 7 sub 50's and would like to have all 7 sub 50's on the non-Vet Campaign you cannot, if any of those 7 sub 50's are in a different Faction. I've sent up a ticket about this to CS and all they said was "Thanks, we'll send this along to the correct team".

I'd wager ZoS did this to prevent spying, but it's completely wrong because spying happens within even the same Guild while in TS/Vent. Besides having to log out, switch toons, log in just to spy is ridiculous. ZoS needs to remove the restriction entirely.

So it sounds like I need to be dependant upon having someone I know already in a campaign in order to travel to them. This sucks for someone just getting into AW.

Does the restriction persist between campaigns? If I take part in eg. Blackwater with a character in one alliance can I solo join the same campaign with a character in another alliance once the 5 days is over?

No . You have to sacrifice alliance rank and campaign rewards to cross faction hop . All you'll get is AP

OK thanks for clarifying this and thanks to all responders.

It's a shame as I'd like to complete all PVE storylines but also be able to PVP with those characters once they've done that. Perhaps once it's B2P and the price drops it might be worth running multiple accounts.

And if I'm thinking that as a casual player I'm sure more serious players are already doing so and actually 'spying' already. Makes a mockery of the whole restriction mechanism. Hope they change it.

Ah so it must just be a glitch with me, and every single Guild member in my Guild that have noticed the exact same problem. There are also threads on the forums and on Reddit complaining about the very same thing, that is you cannot get to a Campaign that any of your own Characters has set to Guest/Home if they are of a different Faction.

EDIT: Here is the exact error you get when trying to enter a Campaign that another of your own Characters of a different Faction has it set to Home/Guest. I'm taking this word for word off of ESO on live servers right now.

"Opposing faction character already assigned to this campaign"

Yeah, I don't know what you are trying to do. I've set my AD character's home to Haderus, and while he was still homed on Haderus, had my DC character bypass the restriction by using "Travel to Player" while being grouped.

I know it works because I do it all the time and so do many other people that I know.

Edit for your edit: Have you tried using Travel to Player?

Had I known these restrictions were in place, I would have leveled all of my alts in the same alliance. But I didn't and now I'm stuck. There is no fix once you enter the campaigns, because you can't drop a campaign. If someone knows a way to drop a campaign other deleting your character please let me know. Even if I level new characters in the same alliance, I still can't get them into some of the campaigns. I entered all of the campaigns with alts in different alliances before I realized I couldn't get them out, so I can't switch campaigns. This is maddening.

There needs to be a way you can either switch the alliance of your characters, or drop a campaign without deleting the character and wasting all of the time you have spent leveling them.

Some players have suggested a one time quest you can do to switch the alliance of a character. I think that is a great idea. Best solution imho. Either that, or pay some gold at a shrine and reset your alliance. Something, anything but being stuck in campaigns with no way out. That's just dumb.

Can you still earn alliance points and level your character when doing this?

Yes, you just won't be on the leaderboards.

Sounds like a decent work around. Not sure if it was intended, but they haven't stopped it. If you can do that, then why not just allow you to drop a campaign with the same restrictions as switching?

Yeah I even tried to port to a guild member who was in group with me while he was in Cyro via both the party window and the Guild window and got the same error. Several Guild members have the exact same thing happen, so it's obviously more than just me. And in my Edit, I tried today setting that Campaign to Guest/Home and got the error, then tried to port to a guild member that was in that campaign via the guild screen (but not in my group) and got the error. Then I had him invite me to his group and tried to travel to player from the party screen and got the same error. Like I said before I've ticketed this and got basically no answer from ZoS.

Also as you state above me, you cannot actually drop a Campaign, only change to another. The only time I've seen my Characters lose their assigned Guest/Home is a few months ago when ZoS completely changed all the Campaigns to the new format.

The way I've done it since I'm one of those who is bugged and can't enter Cyro if ANY of my Characters of an opposing Faction are set to Guest/Home no matter what I do is this:

Set my 3 AD toons to the same Campaign (2 are Guest, 1 is Home)
Set my 3 EP toons to the same Campaign (all 3 are Guest)
Set my 2 DC toons to the same Campaign (both are Guest)

That leaves me 2 open Campaigns now just in case my Guildees get tired of the one we're on now and I need to switch. You can change Campaigns once for free so I used that option up on all 8 Characters. It's a crappy way to have to do it and the restriction shouldn't even be there. There should also be an option to abandon Campaign. Some of my alts I never plan to PvP with but I went in for the Skyshards.

Tonight, EP were attempting to take Ales from DC... and judging by the length of the siege, they were having a difficult time of it.

So, guess what happens: a group of players who used to be AD, but then rerolled EP (you know the ones I'm talking about), rode past DC owned Ash and took Glade with their AD chars... thus enabling EP's taking of Ales.

    lol smh
