It has been CONFIRMED that player(s) are contacting Sony and Microsoft about the issue suggesting that the two giants can have an impact it would seem the players do not to persuade Zenimax to reconsider its current stance. Player(s) have contacted and emailed the possibility of a boycott of sorts against the two companies if they carry this title as some have said that gamers deserve better than the current treatment. I have been told by various guilds of TESO that Friday will host guild events involving contacting said customer support lines of the two companies to voice there concerns and stance towards the release of the title on there platforms. Will it make a difference? Is this just going a bit far? Is Sony and Microsoft more worried about There overall than what's in Zenimax's best interest?
More important will you be one of those people? What's your thoughts on all this?

Well if you look at it from a business subcontractor viewpoint If I was Microsoft or Sony I would be worried about having the Elder Scrolls online associated with my platform Because it's no different Then accompanied Hiring somebody who looks like a slob and has a rotten reputation For lying and cheating people To represent them.

The anger storm that's brewing over this Has the potential to rub off on them And if I was them I would have to ask myself If I want their bad reputation Attached to my company.

Well you could be right they could be basking in its press glory, However we must consider the fact that Xbox already told them no to the fee wave which brought us to this point.

I have to say: I doubt either Sony or Microsoft would care. Remember this back in August?

What we are watching is the aftermath of Bethesda and Zenimax going crunch against Sony and Microsoft. If they didn't listen to us via Z&B, why are they going to listen to some guild members? I mean, hey, kudos for trying to get something done, folks. But Mannimicro and Sony Bal won this one.

I am not sure exactly what the boycott is be it not buying any titles on the platforms for a certain timeframe or just refusal to buy TESO. I don't want to speculate on that although I am certain it will be know before to long.

Bethesda's Vice President of PR, Pete Hines, has detailed the publisher's plan to support The Elder Scrolls Online post-launch with regular content additions. Speaking to GameSpot, Hines defended the game's monthly $14.99 subscription fee by describing it as a "value proposition".

"We feel pretty strongly about the support we're going to have for the game and what you're going to get for those dollars," he said when asked why The Elder Scrolls Online was not pursuing a free-to-play model. "We're also very confident in our ability to support it with content. And not content of the magnitude of, it's a new month, here's a new sword or here's a funny hat--but content that is real and significant and it feels like regular and consistent DLC releases."

"... Not here's a new sword or here's a funny hat--but content that is real and significant and it feels like regular and consistent DLC releases."
Hines further justified the subscription fee by explaining that, as a massively multiplayer game, The Elder Scrolls Online would require all players to have the same content installed and available to them in order to interact with one another.

"So you wind up in a situation where you say, look, by and large, when you're talking about regular content, adding new features and new parts of the world, either you're all in or you're not," he continued.

Hines recognized that this may limit the MMORPG's potential number of players, saying that this was not an issue for Bethesda.

"We're not trying to make a game that everybody who plays games will automatically buy," he elaborated. "It is a certain kind of game. There's no shooter elements. There's no aliens. It is a massive, 'Go where you want, do what you want' game that we think offers the kind of experience that's worthy of a subscription."

Hines described how this approach would have been affected had Bethesda chosen to adopt a free-to-play model, stating that the percentage of the team Bethesda could afford to assign to create future content would depend upon the The Elder Scrolls Online's base sales performance.

"That just seems like a lesser game, and we're not going to make a lesser game that might be more palatable," he continued. "We want to do the version that we think is the best game and the coolest experience. And that means putting a lot of people and a lot of content creators towards having stuff that comes our regularly; every four weeks, five weeks, six weeks. Big new stuff that you want to do."

That pretty much answers that question?

Sony had no issue with this Microsoft is the company that wouldn't remove the fee and as far as Bethesda going crunch with Microsoft...NO that woulda been them saying ok well then it will just release on ps4 and pc not them saying ok we will do it your way and charge the players on the back end in our store to make the money.

Maybe Beth and ZOS should do A PS4 and PC exclusive and leave Microsoft/Xbox out. I really don't care about the console since I will never buy one again, but some do. I'll be sticking around until the game sucks and by then I hope to see a single TES again.

This game already has a terribly negative stigma attached to the name Elder Scrolls (hence Tamriel Unlimited lol). Just look at any Ign, Gamestop, Gamefaqs, PCgamer website and read the comments. The gaming community by in large really dislikes this game.

The way Zos treats it's community is fast becoming common knowledge out there too. I don't really believe that anyone needs to petition $ony or Micro$oft to boycott the game. I think gamers will do it all by themselves.

Oh I agree They're not going to change it. But if they want to have continued success on console They better not put out the Elder Scrolls 6 Because the people that buy this for console Are going to realize very quickly That if they bought this because it was an Elder Scrolls game It's nowhere near as good as the others. The quests Are not as immersive And there is much more broken with this game The entire titles in the series. If they choose to release the Elder Scrolls 6 on consoles Yes soul will die Or go free to play.

The percentage of players that visit these forums is quite small. Among this group, there is a smaller group that even attempts to post. To get a perspective outside of this forum, you could consider a poll from another forum:

    mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/426438/So-how-do-you-feel-about-the-switch-to-B2P.html

While this poll doesn't prove anything, it does show a much different perspective from a broader mmorpg community. They seem to be largely in favor of the change.

Imagine the general public and the potential millions of console players who don't give two sh*ts about the decision at all. Then imagine the possible profit ZOS, Microsoft, and Sony will make from box sales to these millions of new consumers.

Do you think a few die hard fans of the existing incarnation of this game have a snowball's chance in hell of getting these companies to change?

I don't. I think it's better just to relax about the whole thing and play as long as you're having fun. If you are bothered by this change, then just unsub. I do understand your point of view.

Honestly, it's not a big deal. But I will admit I have enjoyed reading and posting in the forums more the past couple of days (I'm not proud of this, by the way) than I have playing. It has been a very interesting study of human psychology (my own as well as that of others) triggered by the various opinions, responses, and schisms within our little community brought about by this change.

I wish everyone well and I know we will all move on with our lives and in a week or so we will be doing other things and not worried about this in the least.

Do you remember Diablo 3 initial sales? They absolutely shattered records even though many people thought and still do that Diablo 2 was a much better game.

I don't think TES VI will have any problems selling copies over this issue here at ESO today. Of course, I could be wrong, but I think people will be able to distinguish the future RPG from the online game.

I just don't get what the big hold up is. The switch to b2p is not caused by the console launch. It is was a planned move for a while.

Console players have no issue paying a sub when they feel the game is worth it (Final Fantasy) so if they felt ESO was worth it, they would pay too.
    This is just a scapegoat.

Sony accepted to lower their fees, Xbox Live didn't.
The launch could have occured anyway and let Microsoft bear the heat of being ***.
Instead, some would believe that Zenimax chose to forfeit a tremendous amount of long term revenue just so all platform players are "equal"?
Nonsense. They are just going for a quick cash grab and letting the game rot afterwards.

If the game fails, it's not Microsoft or Sony's reputation that is affected, it's ZOS. How many other games in the past have failed on these two platforms? The only reputations that suffered are those of the game publishers.

Microsoft and Sony are in a winning situation regardless of the success or failure of ESO. ZOS is the company who spent millions of dollars developing and maintaining ESO, not Microsoft or Sony.

seems to me the best option is to go with sony as the did wave the fees and allow xbox to pass on it return the subs an avoid the issue all together. But that is only if it is truly the players they have in mind. Like many have said and I agree the taste this will leave in the mouth of the angry players will cost them much more than just subs/cash for this game but any other zeni made game. True there will always be the fans to and more power to them. This can go either way and if nothing else hopefully the players do what they feel is best for them

The only time I know of where players made the publisher change their minds was when CCP proposed a cash shop for Eve Online that had more than tee shirts in it.

Players basically shut the game down until CCP backed off. You don't f*ck with Eve players. And CCP doesn't screw their customers.

I take it you are not familiar with football fans?

And you might be surprised, while Sony most certainly won't do anything directly but they juts got a nice piece of confirmed info. The significant percentage of playerbase accustomed to paying monthly subs are dissatisfied, EQN is in the works and those players might be looking for a new home.

Plus you can now hedge your bets against ZOS as an investor.

Either way it certainly doesn't help our anemic Skyrim wannabe.

As much as polls placed on this forum have a biased pool, MMORPG is even worse. It's a joke website that caters to F2P and B2P fans. You can't poll a bias pool on either side and get an accurate representation.

That said I don't think contacting Micro$oft of $ony is going to a bit of good. I was kind of surprised $ony even picked it up considering it would be competing with their own EQN mmo, however at the current rate they probably don't see it as much competition at all.

I enjoyed the game while I played it. Don't think it will be the next SWtOR, rather it's much more likely it will suffer a slow death of LOtRo. Zenimax will likely hold on for as long as possible to the sinking ship. Box sales of the first year might carry them through a little ways. How many console players will be buying DLC 3 years down the road?

Instead of an MMO that lasted over a decade with a decent core player base they've chosen to throw a wider net catching a lot more fish but much smaller ones. The DLC and Cash shop are just holes in the net that eventually get bigger over time. They know this. It's the entire reason they went with a sub model to begin with. Sub = longevity. Sony and Blizzard know this, even EA knows this it's why they keep trying over and over to make a game worth being sub based. It's also why they bought DAoC and it still has a sub model. Most money comes from a combination of the 2 systems, I've said that for years now. But it has to be done right and simply put, they're not doing it right.
