Video Cards: Nvidia GTX 760 vs GTX 9xx

I am looking for some advice as to whether or not I should bother upgrading my video card right now. Last night I bought myself a brand new Dell XPS: i7 processor, 16gb Ram, blah blah blah. My current system is a Dell with an i3 with maxed out ram of 8gb and a Nvidia 760. My performance has been adequate but I want more power, woot! The new computer will come with the nvidia 750 and of course I can swap the two of those out. Minus a Power Supply upgrade, I am pretty ready to go with the new comp. My question is, if you are like me - love the semi latest and greatest when comes to video cards and have upgraded to the 9xx series of GTX cards, do you think I will see a huge difference between my 760 and 9xx?

The 970 is the best graphics card I've ever bought. Wipes the floor with a 760.

the graphics card will be fine the 760 you upgrade to a 4core(8 with HT) cpu will see the most FPS change.

I run an OC i5 ivy at 4.5ghz and a 780 and 8gb ram. and get over 100 fps in most places drops to 60ish in crowded towns, havnt pvp so cant say for that. my settings are maxed out @2715x1527 using nvida exp, but downscaled to 1080p (my monitor is only 1080p)

Off topic comment, I still can't believe Dell doesn't allow you to upgrade your Power Supply. It come with a 450 watt and I won't even dare to run ESO till I get that upgraded.

Anywho, I get what you all are saying - the new i7 might allow me to see a strong uptick in performance from what I have now and I might be as happy as a clam. But if I really want to Rock and Roll go with the 9xx, lol.

o yeah if you plan on buying new games or try to be "future proof" (can never be lol) then splash out on the best card you can buy :)

Really? I recently traded my 590 for a 970 and while there's some improvement it's really not a huge difference. And according to the benchmarks I've seen teh 590 is only marginally better than the 760.

    I'd recommend a GIGABYTE GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Video Card.

Just make sure it will fit in your existing computer case!

This game is frustratingly CPU intensive. Graphics card upgrade won't help that much. You will probably get a better boost from forcing all cores to run (even though the game doesn't appear to thread).

I went from a 780 to 980, there's a difference because everything is now on or at high/ultra but honestly I don't find my overall gaming experience in ESO any better for it. Other games though, that's a different story.

Personally, I would go with the 780 over the 970

You can buy a GeForce GTX 780 3GB for $299 ($269.99 with a rebate card).

The 970 are good cards though, not knocking em'. Just dollar for dollar I think the 780 is a better deal right now. Unless you run resolutions greater than 1080 the 780 will be a great card for atleast the next 3 yrs (at max settings). Plus, the 780 will have a MUCH better resale value over any of the x70s series.

GTX 760 is more than enough for ESO. With 760 (including a good CPU like I5 4670K / 4690K or Any I7+ and 8GB Ram) you can run ESO on ultra (Full HD) with 100 FPS in mostly places. If you wanna play only with single screen on Full HD, the GTX 760 is the right way to go. ;) If you wanna play with more screens you should probably rather get 780(Ti) or 9xx.

But there is a huge peformance issue that games has at the moment you should take into account. ZOS made some mistakes in recent updates and the game is not well optimized right now. In busy places ( especially with lighting effects and a lot of players ) / towns / battles...etc the fps is very unstable and drops very low.

Hopefully after update 1.6 the performance issue will no longer exist.

    Cheers.

Before you buy a new video card make sure your power supply has the correct wattage for it and the right connectors. Some video cards require two six pin power connectors, and your power supply may not have two of these.

And as already stated, make sure your case is big enough to support the size of the card you want.

Here's a link to Tom's Hardware so you can read for yourself as what is the best video card for your system:

I had a GTX-780 in my rig, and it performed nicely on a 144hz display. Configured Downsampling (3480x2160 -> 1920x1080) and things looked even more gooder.

Santa was nice to me so I picked myself up a 4k HD display and the 780 only just slightly protested at times. (This is now a 60hz display I wasn't really happy with the 144hz's quality)

So now I'm SLI GTX-980's and things run smoothly. There is still occasional lag where the CPU bottlenecks. And I think a lot of this is relevant to sloppy memory management, prioritization and chemtrails.

I think you 760 will be more than enough for your rig. You can tinker with your settings in the Nvidia control panel. Depending on refresh rate/fps vsync and triple buffering may give you a nudge. Turning off anti-aliasing does too, but those jagged edges were still noticeable with downsampling on.

For ESO won't make much of a difference.

Same. Just upgraded to 970 from 650, used to be Ultra at 20fps, now runs the game on Ultra setting at 60 fps.

    760?
    760 GTX? Ti?

I run a 700 series GTX and it's more than enough on Ultra.

I'd stick with the 700 series. In a year or to, the 900 series will be the 'legacy' card and will come far down in price.

For the quickest down and dirty comparison, check out http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/. You can see very quickly how much more a certain card does or does not get you for your $.

My old 760 played the game more than fine, it ran great. However the lure of a 970 was too great and i succumbed, of which i don't regret one bit as it is an amazing GPU.

Don't forget that performance wise it's not the series that matters, but the number following it. You're way better of with a 590 than a 750, for instance.

Thanks for all the advice and the link to Tom's. My current care is the 760 ti, top ranked card for it's time when released. Right now I am running about 55-60 FPS in standard pve. Cant remember in PVP since that varies constantly.
