Just thought you might like to know that I made a poll over at mmorpg.com just asking how people feel about the switch to B2P.
mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/426438/So-how-do-you-feel-about-the-switch-to-B2P.html
As of this moment, 10.9% hate it, 28.4% want to wait to see how it's done, 23.4% say it doesn't matter either way and 37.3% say they love it.
It's a general MMO playing crowd with different tastes but it's still quite a contrast to the mood around here.
Personally I'm in the "I liked this game yesterday and still like it today, I ain't leaving till I get bored" camp

Actually, the only poll I've seen here thus far asking whether people are staying or not shows 80% staying, and almost two-thirds of those voting intending to subscribe. The other main poll about liking or disliking the change was pretty skewed. I'm not sure therefore that the mood is very different between the two sites, it's just that this is the place where the critics are going to be the most vocal.

Yeah, it's going F2P. For all intents and purposes B2P = B2W/F2P. How many MMO's have been able to maintain any integrity after adopting anything other than a sub to play model? One? TSW? And upon this you base your stance? My money says ESO goes the way of the other 99% of the industry. AND considering ZoS's word means squat right now ALL INDICATIONS is that when ZOS says "X" they really mean "Y." It Will be gold crowns for money, gold level upgrades for cash, reduced drop% of desired items to drive traffic to the store, inflated costs of items and features in store to push down the value of subbing benefits and drive more traffic to said store, etc, etc. Only a matter of time, now.daneyulebub17_ESO wrote: »The readers and posters here tend to be the most invested in the game--ie, a higher than otherwise percentage of people who pay close attention to the Lore, or the Quality of ESO as a game. They also are very likely to be more aware of the history of other MMOs, and what F2P has meant for those that succumbed to it.
Don't try to make this into a "status quo" thing. The reason this move is so unpopular here, on the forums, is because more people here take the game very seriously (enough to read and post about it) and more people here are well-informed.
Oh? Is it going F2P? I must have missed that announcement.
There has only ever been one sub MMO that I'm aware of that went B2P instead of F2P... The Secret World. Doing quite well with a dedicated fanbase and still an honest cash shop without a gold exchange, lockbox gambling or any of the other staples F2P games sell. They also have an optional sub and DLC just like ESO will.
Matter of fact, by all indications the model ESO has chosen is almost a direct copy of the TSW model.
The other B2P MMO out there is GW2. And that one is very different and is really nothing more than a F2P game with an entry fee. There you can buy gold with cash by going through the currency exchange and locked chest gambling is very much a part of that model,
So... you were saying about well-informed?
