First off the game going to not having to pay for a subscription if you don't want to wasn't something unexpected. Nor is it because all the doom and gloomers were correct. Its probably and mostly is because it is going to console also. I rather doubt and perhaps it was negotiated this way for xbox and ps4 platforms that since console users already pay for online membership that they wouldn't be charged a monthly fee to play this game or that console users would pay an additional monthly fee to play this game.
So to make it work for consoles a monthly charge for the game is going away. You still have to buy the game same for pc users. But, if console users don't have to pay a subscription fee, of course pc gamers would be lighting fires and picking up their crosses and screaming bloody murder. So to make them happy Zenni has waved a subscription free to those that don't want to pay monthly. You still have to purchase the game like anyone else and any future dlc's unless of course you sub.
As for the store there have been several threads about costume stores that people (myself included) would pay money to be able to purchase costumed looks). Not like its giving people an edge over anything.
this way of playing seems just like Guild Wars to me and they seem like they do just fine for content and player satisfaction with player base. So why all of a sudden is it so wrong that ESO does the same thing? We have all gotten our moneys worth out of this game, this MMO has had no different startup problems then any other MMO.
Outside of some complainers and nay say'ers, seems like the developers have tried to add things and improve things along what majority of player base wants. Not to say that some or all or majority or minority think otherwise. And sure they probably haven't covered everything or addressed everything. But, all in all a lot of stuff has or is being addressed and players listened to.
Though I am curious with Windows 10 is there going to be any cross platform stuff. I know Zennis said each console and pc will have is own mega servers. But, I was reading stuff about Windows 10 and its connection to xbox one games so am curious about how it might effect ESO

Kyosji✭✭✭You do know that some games do not require live or plus to play if they are subscription based already, right? There are a few games out there that aren't affecetd by it just because they are already subscription based. That kind of thrown your whole opening argument out the window. Example. FFXIV, a widely known MMORPG with a subscription base that is also on consoles does NOT require the consoles subscription service PLUS the games subscription service.0 -

Nothing really has changed, except for a few perks for buying costumes and ride able animal and vanity pets if you want them.
