My question is: if my sub ends which kills my expansion access, if I reup my sub will I get access to the expansions again. Also, does this work the same on console.

From what they have said, I'm going to assume yes. As long as you are subscribed, you will have access to the DLC.

As long as they don't incorporate tons of micro transactions that give you an actual edge in game, this will be much the same game.

Can you not see the clear flaw in your logic? Of course it won't start off this way. Its highly unlikely it will remain this way though. This is the beginning of the end, but there is still some time to enjoy the game though before they add 'more content' to the cash shop.

If you are saying, because you subscribe, you get a slight edge over the F2P people, you are absolutely correct. However, this edge does not seem insurmountable by a player that is F2P and plays a lot yet. Even if subscribing did give you additional content and such, it would hardly be a new model. I mean even Runescape did this...

And everything you just said is meaningless, because you can justify any amount of P2W with that. A 500% increase to damage and health isn't "insurmountable" either, because it's still theoretically possible to beat them.

And we definitely want to make ESO like Runescape... What a great idea.

Last time I checked you can't actually equip gear past the crap level without a buy from cash shop or a sub. Also more or less all game mechanics such as crafting and trading are fully functional only with buys or subs.

Getting an exp boost is an edge. A slight edge while leveling a character. A slight edge for a fully leveled character in the Champion System. The way the champion system has been explained, having 10% more champion points than the next person will make you only a fraction of percentages better after the first 100 or so considering the points become less valuable the more you have of them. This is by no means going to make or break any group... As far as being able to buy soul gems and such... Is it really that hard to get soul gems right now? I don't have an issue with it.

They throw out "premium" and you all over look the fact your sub fee is now a P2W. The XP/Gold boosts etc = S2W (Sub 2 Win) They've just cleverly went this route over B2P free and F2P with a cash shop because who knows if those people will spend the sub fee every month in the shop -but a sub will and all you have to do is continue your sub to have the advantages.

I won't say it's not a good decision for ZOS and the best path for them to take to continue the game but I am very disappointed to say the least, because I would never purchase a game that is in anyway P2W.

Even the subscription benefits aren't going to make or break you right now... I could easily see myself remaining competitive if I wanted to go F2P. I probably won't, but as of yet, I'm not seeing the pay to win part of it. 10% EXP and 10% gold gain that I'm already not seeing would not break me... I am simply going to be doing exactly what I'm currently doing and will be getting a few perks. I don't see the downside yet... If they decide to start selling things separate from the subscription that are mandatory to be even close to the top tier player, that is when my subscription will get canceled.

The cash shop never starts out intrusive. Unfortunately, there is an extremely predictable trajectory.

If it does too little, then people don't buy things - and the cash shop then gets steadily more intrusive until you wake up and discover that it's ruined the game.

We've seen many, many examples of this. It happens every time. Rather than pretending that people who dislike this are irrational, show us the counter-examples - of games with cash shops that stayed non-intrusive, and of cash shop games with quality and regular updates.

Planetside 2, the only thing I would consider "intrusive" is repeated icons suggesting we become a member rather than be free to play. Cosmetics available via cash, weapons and other gear available via cash or in game currency with equivalents. While I can't speak for it myself I've heard good things about Guild Wars 2 cash shop but as I've not played it directly I can't speak to it.

I don't believe the sky is falling, in fact I'm kind of interested in how this pans out. Unfortunately I've become extremely jumpy about them making sudden about changes when they tell us things will be one way and then switch. Their communication is terrible as a general rule so kudos to them doing what little damage management they could.

They literally said nothing about a cash shop in these updates. It's only going to be the loyalty reward shop and what we have now as far as cash shop.
...did you actually read the forum and/or watch ESO Live? They already showed more than a dozen of new mounts, pets and costumes in addition to XP boosters, soulgems and potions mentioned on the website. The cash shop is only going to grow from now on.

I Did read the update and it said nothing about a cash shop. From what I read, there will be an in game "Crown" Shop. You can only get Crowns from the premium subscription the same as something like loyalty points. It's not a cash shop. It's a loyalty rewards program. They have one of those now too... They are just revamping it.
    How do I get crowns?
    4) Purchase Crown Packs: PC/Mac players will be able to purchase crown packs from The Elder Scrolls Online store. Console players will be able to purchase crowns via the Xbox Live or PSN stores.

It's a cash shop, simple as that.

Ok, I see where they are offering to sell crown packs, but right above it, they did say this:
"Will I be required to buy anything from the Crown Store to play the game?
No. All items in the Crown Store are completely optional and are meant to enhance your game play experience. They are not required to play or compete in the game."

I don't know what that statement even means.

"All items in the Crown Store are completely optional"

Well, yeah, every purchase you make in your entire life is completely optional. Pay to win is completely optional too. How can any purchase of any product not be "optional"? What's the alternative? A salesman breaks into your house and put a gun to your head? Should Walmart put up signs all over the store saying "all purchases are completely optional?"

I believe what they are saying here is that it will not be pay to win. It will be just cosmetic and vanity items and little things that could be somewhat usefull but still not mandatory from the store like soul gems.

Just like they said they only removed the 6-month sub model because it was unpopular.

Just like they said they'd track XP and do a conversion for CP.

Just like they said we'd get content updated every 4-6 weeks.

Just like they kept telling us 1.6 PTS was only delayed because of bug fixes and patch notes translations.

Just like they've been hyping Champion System, Justice System, Provisioning Revamp for like 3 months now but haven't mentioned a single peep about the new subscription model even though they HAD TO KNOW ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT'S CODED into 1.6.

Seriously, when are some people going to catch on?

I'm glad about all this... the only thing it will do is get rid of all those mmo junkies who are here to only PvP. You know... the ones who don't know anything about the lore, they don't quest, and they don't care about the previous ES games. I say great... you don't want a Crown Shop leave! Don't let the door hit your @$$ on the way out. I won't miss you. It would be nice to PvP with people who like the game.

I think its the best MMO I've played and its the best ES ever. I've played every ES game since Morrowind. They were all great in their day.

All you MMO junkies pleeeeeeze go back to WoW or something.

Well of course the sky isn't falling. Once they introduce an ability to make the sky fall, it will cost $25 per character on the cash shop. Also, the new Chicken Little pet will be $35.

Don't forget about keys to open lockboxes you loot on mobs. Those will only cost $2 each, with a 0.002% chance to contain a mount. But every mob in the game will drop lockboxes, so you're inventory will be full of them but you won't be able to open till you spend cash.

:p Honestly, even If I'm completely wrong and they do go pay to win with all the microtransactions that drastically effect game play that other games are implementing, then I think we've still got a while to enjoy the game. Tamriel Unlimited doesn't launch until June 9th, and then with the rate at which they update their game, it will be another long while before they do anything else noteworthy.

I think the first indication where we need to be worried will be when/if they stealth nerf grand soul gem drop rates.

As technically they are 'convenience items' (you actually do not need soul gems at all if you think about, even recharging enchants... you could just make a new one and apply it again).

If they do that to encourage soul gem purchases, that will mark a real shift in their cash shop philosophy. Its not something I would expect to happen any time soon, but something like that will signal the beginning of the end to me.
