If there are in-your-face reminders about the cash shop like lockboxes or flashing icons, I am done. There will be nothing more ironic than flashing cash shop icon on a UI that was left bare for "immersion".

I won't support games with cash shops. There are many, many examples of bad outcomes with them. Maybe this will be the first one where that isn't true, but it isn't irrational at all to doubt it.

So, I'll vote in the only way that I can: I canceled my sub, and I won't look back. Let them prove that they'll be different, rather than my assuming that they'll be a special snowflake.

Guild Wars 1 and 2, both with Cash shops, neither with bad outcomes. Now I haven't played any MMO for 6 years after playing WoW till Guild Wars 2, but I have heard from other players that have played many other MMOs that have a cash shop that were just as good as Guild Wars 2 system. Granted it looks like there are a lot of bad ones out there, but ESO would hardly be the first one to make a good one.

Best case scenario is that ZOS keeps pushing out content and improvement, and I stay subscribed. I'm willing to wait around for a few months, and see how this whole thing unfolds.

If they slow down the pace to the point where it's not worth it anymore then I guess I'll stop paying. No big deal.

It's already too easy to outlevel content. Why would I want to pay for an xp bonus?

Actually, I guess we'll be subbed the first month or two because we'll still have time on our current subscriptions, but probably not after that. We'll buy DLC and maybe the occasional fun item, but I doubt that it will be advantageous for us to subscribe.

I believe GW2 has/had lockboxes. They are incredibly annoying. Your bags just fill up with them and the only way to open them is with a key you buy from the cash shop. You can ignore them, choose not to open them etc, but they are everywhere and they are a constant reminder that if you whip out your credit card you could get a special prize. Which usually turns out to be nothing.

It won't be wise to continue your subscription, if you eventually ever want to cancel Plus and still play. NO DLC will be available to you (you'll have to purchase ALL DLC again) if you cancel Plus, no matter how long you've been a subscriber. Zero.

They also confirmed that the subscription model was here to stay. Several times. Sorry, but at this point, "confirmation" means less than nothing to me. At the end of the day it will be the suits upstairs that make the decisions and clearly promises and confirmations have been broken.

I still can't get over the fact that it doesn't say I have IMP edition, everyone is worrying about nonsense when the real issue here is this; am I the only one that is listed as having the "retail standard edition" as opposed to my glorious physical collectors edition with an even more glorious physical book.

But yes, I can't be bothered to cancel my sub so I'll just keep it going as it's less effort. Plus, Zeni is wonderful.

To me this is a luxury expense. I compare it to say watching a movie in a theater or renting one off Amazon Prime/Netflix. If i can get in 3 hours a month of quality game time I'm satisfied. Hell I paid $15 for that horrid portrayal of The Hobbit: Battle of the 5 Armies to which I should have bought a whole liter of Captain Morgan for my diet coke to help alleviate the "grind" that was the back and forth drawn out drama of "why does it hurt so much" - "because it was real" attempt at evoking some kind of emotion out of me besides frustration.

I appreciate that the suits have decided to adapt to their market rather than stick to their guns and let the franchise die due to conflicts of subscribership (thanks Microsoft for ruining another wonderful product).

We have to keep in mind though this is a niche product, in a niche market, with a relatively veeeeeeery small player base to choose from. That being said the maps are way larger than almost every other MMO I've played such as RO, ROSE, EVE, Allods, Jade Empire, Heroes Online, EQ2, DCUO, etc. The voice acting is on par with DCUO, the visual fidelity exceeds that of every other MMO out there, the player choices have an effect future interactions in the game, and there is a large backstory rooted deep in the exploration and book cases if you ever desire to read anything.

Perhaps they tried to be too big too soon, but I like their direction in the quality of content. A quality single player game requires atleast 18 months of arduous slave labor development to produce a quality product, and to say it doesn't translate equivocally to MMOs is absurd. More subscriptions does not equate to earlier release of quality product but typically the higher quality of the product released.

To everyone else who finds issue with the new marketing strategy... just subscribe and play the game while imbibing on some "refreshing" beverages. It made 47 Ronin seem like the best movie I ever watched.

Both the OP and the poll are quite biased...and doesn't reflect (or respect) any choice other than staying.

Zenimax had a huge launch with ESO, which equaled lots of money. And nine months of required subscriptions, which equaled lots of money. And even some additional sales of Imperial upgrades and a few odds and ends from their (rather underwhelming) online shop, which equaled a bit more money.

Did all this money result in frequent content updates? Newp. There was zero new content for anybody who isn't both VR and plays in groups. What makes you think switching to B2P, which will probably become F2P within another 9 months or so, will result in more money and thus more content? Or do you just believe this through faith?

FWIW, my subscription is up at the end of this month and even though I was an Early Access player and did quite enjoy the game for a long while, I'll be leaving then rather than paying for another six weeks.

No, that's your assumption. The goal is to increase revenues and minimize expenses, including reinvestment. By your logic every f2p game should be a huge quality project.

You claim the comment he makes is an assumption even though its backed by the Devs statements as to their direction with the B2P/Sub Hybrid. And then turn around and make an assumption yourself that is only backed by other nimrods on this site raging and fearmongering. Youre a hypocrite a best.

I'll still have about 4-5 months left on my current subscription when the change happens. Means I'll have plenty of time to see how things work out. I also fully expect that there will be another update before (after 6) before the changeover and will be surprised if there isn't DLC ready when the change happens.
