It would have made sense for this game to keep the sub and ditch Xbox One. Now, not only do we face the possibility for GW2-style updates with less content, but PS4 players are stuck playing by themselves whereas if they ditched Xbox One, the game could've integrated PS4 and PC players and created a much larger community. Console players are less likely to stick with MMOs to begin with, so I think it's a shame because many XB1/PS4 players may not have people to play with in the long run. This could've been the nail in the coffin for the game in the long run, sure they'll get lots of sales but the new players won't stick. A year from now we may see this game just like GW2, a game you come to check out every few months or so and realize it hasn't really changed much. I hope I'm wrong and just being cynical, but that is what the future of the game looks like to me. Thoughts?

Because they will sell a TON of boxes for both consoles... a huge influx of cash right now vs the hope that people will stay subbed is really a no brainer.

Too early to say really. Unlike GW2 they plan on selling content (DLCs), so potentially the updates to content will be more frequent. We'll just have to see how it goes. It's not that the model couldn't work, they just need to not get too focused on the easy cash streams (costumes etc).

Then once those boxes are sold, the game will go f2p with a more robust Pay2Win cash shop. Obvious path is obvious.

I think you just invited in every farmer in the world. Turks and Chinese farmers will dominate every area of the game, leaving nothing but grief for regular players. BTDT. They come in, I go. In no possible world can anyone hire enough GM's to ban the farmers that pour into free games. And the GM's get tired, so they start banning players that report farmers. Yeah, BTDT. Got the stinking tshirt.

I doubt it. Seems more like a scheme to grab money from console players before going full-on f2p.

don't remember a game going three ways on a game, ie Sub B2P then F2P. not saying I cant see it just don't think it has been done before.

It might indeed be a money grab, but I wouldn't doubt sub numbers are low. I'm sure they realized a while ago that their subscription model plan was failing as many left the game for various reasons. The game has been hemorrhaging subs since the end of the first month.

I've also never seen an MMO start on PC with a sub, then transfer to B2P for a console release. Once those console sales die down, they will go F2P with a more money-grubbing cash shop.

Why are these mutually exclusive? It should be obvious by now this is just a big cash grab. I wouldn't be surprised if after this game goes F2P, they apologize to the fan base, promise another ESO reboot (The champion system 2!) and flip back to a sub model just to start the process all over again.
