I don't care if it stays or goes, but if it stays, they damn well need to fix it so that when you push an NPC they feckin' move out of the way as they did in Skyrim. You could even add Collision detection utterances like Skyrim had when you pushed or shoved an NPC they said something about it!

A while back, I was riding my horse through Eastmarch, and jumped off of a higher area (I think near the blacksmith) onto a lower street below. I ran right into an NPC before I landed completely, who stopped my in my tracks and didn't move. I remember thinking, whoa, these NPCs are tough. They can stop a horse flying through the air at full speed dead in that horse's tracks.

It would be nice if the NPCs could be pushed out of the way. I wouldn't want them to turn collision off though. I remember when collision was off in beta, and the game felt like I was playing with a no clipping cheat on. It was also too easy to just run past mobs without the collision, especially if you were a NB.

What really bothers me about NPC collision is that when you're fighting mobs they get to ignore it and move right inside you where you suddenly can't target them. So irritating when I'm fighting a mob, and it just casually walks right inside me and is occupying the exact same space as me... So suddenly I can't attack it :s

Collision during combat sounds right. Not sure how a player could block anyone else from interacting with an npc. It's a different button.

Last night I was suck in a barn because the NPC was blocking the doorway and wouldn't move, so I had to teleport to a wayshrine.

Skyrim had that feature where you could push the NPC's out of the way.

This is why it's fail and the worst idea ever.

Just to make sure I understand you correctly, are you suggesting there should NOT be any collision detection in the game what so ever? Because in one post, you are ranting about how you have never seen collision detection block access to quest NPCs, vendors, etc (which I have seen a ton of myself. Including people in WoW for example parking their mammoth mounts on top of mailboxes), then in another post you are claiming that you think you should be able to walk right through everything in the game. If the latter is the case, then you are going to be sorely outvoted here.

The game was terrible w/o NPC collision. And if you think it SHOULD include other players, then take a good close look at how many people there are standing around in a lower level major city bank and then imagine trying to move in there.

Honestly your comments in this thread have been very confusing and conflicting.

No MMO that I played before this had NPC collision that I am aware of. i.e. a player character could not collide with any non-player character. I never had an issue with other player characters standing on npc's that I was trying to interact with causing a problem. So when I heard they added it it made no sense. I have played almost everyday since the last 2 weekend betas and still have not seen a need for it. It is a hindrance. I realize some people like it but have yet to figure out why and have not been presented with a legitimate argument for it based on my experience.

@Rsram wrote that he got stuck in a barn because an npc was blocking his path, which is just plain bad design. I don't think it should include other players at all. It should not even include NPC's. Having collision with player characters would be 10 times worse than with NPC's. I do not think we should be able to walk right through everything in the game, just npc's and pc's. Being stopped by a wall or tree etc. is expected. The idea that the game is more real because of npc collision makes no sense because you already have to suspend your disbelief. Unless you can actually shoot balls of fire from your hands or grow wings on command to reflect those balls of fire back at your attacker. In which case, sure, you'd probably want NPC collision.

Collision can work if it is programmed correctly. Unfortunately, the ESO game developers need to address this by making the NPC's more aware of the player's actions.

As I stated in another post, I also believe that player collisions in the PVP areas would eliminate massive zerging, and make the PVP combat much smoother because you eliminate many of the combat calculations due to having large number of players grouped together in a small zerg ball. Current collision detection algorithms are extremely fast. With player collision detection one player could be surround with a maximum of six players making a zerg ball less potent. If the zerg ball gets big enough, the players in the center of it would have no combat effect when spamming AOE attacks. You still could have an issue where a friendly player blocks his alliance players from entering the area, but this could be remedied by just having the ability to push a character like in Skyrim.

There should not be player collision in the PVE areas for the same reason as the OP complained about; players just blocking door ways just to be a jerk, plus the banking, crafting, and kiosk areas would be impossible for players to reach if there were too many players in the area.

In Battlefield 4 some players are COMPLAINING about player collision, in that you can't jump over a player in the prone position, or players blocking doors, etc, The players are asking for the same shove mechanics like in Skyrim. So ESO isn't the only game with player complaining about collision mechanics.

It's 2015 and ESO is using the same game mechanics developed 10 years ago. It's time the game developers peeked outside the box little.

I have played multiple mmo's for years and never had this issue. I can't imagine it would have been an issue now.

Play WoW for five minutes. Especially with mounts it's annoying, lol. Caused major issues went the expansion launched for some of the more used NPCs.

When my friend tried this game in beta (before collision) he actually got frustrated at the no collision aspect of the game as he came from Tera. With how he is use to playing a melee class (strifing enemies and such) the non collision sometimes made it that he went to far into the enemy and his attacks wouldn't register then.

No matter which method they choose tho, there will always be some kind of problem that arise, it is a take the lesser of 2 evils. I have actually never had an issue (personally) where NPC's prohibited me from exiting a building or what not due to collision, so it is all in a players experience how detrimental it is.

How is this different from now where NPC Mobs can walk into my character and get inside him, ignoring collision during battle and making themselves untargetable? They can ignore collision detection but players can not!

I think the idea of collision fields is good, but its not real well implemented
    - the area around NPCs is to big, its like they have a wall around em
    - they dont budge a centimeter, they could move a bit so you could squeeze through 2 npc for example, with maybe a smart comment for running into them (not completely GTA style but in the lines of that)

frequency would probably be the difference. I have actually never had that issue where an npc wonders into my character and I am unable target them, so it might be certain skills that have a chance of placing the enemy their by giving them temporary collision immunity (maybe charge?) or a bug associated with it.

Although that's a good point, that isn't why ZoS put in NPC collision. Paul Sage talked about it a long time ago in some video, it's for added realism. During early Beta there was no collision and players felt like they were fighting thin air and not something that was living-breathing in game.

Excactly this. I played the beta since july 2013, and until the body collision was introduced I disliked the combat very much, and this was heartbreaking cause I knew that ESO combat could feel awesome.
Then, Zenimax listened to the feedback of players and added body collision. The little anoyement to be stuck once in a while is a worthy sacrifice for the great improvement that the body collision brought to the game.
Body collision bring realism, immersion, and a feeling that things are solid.

I would prefer if they removed collisions with every single "pebble" on the ground. I understand my char being stopped by a dead piece of tree, bolder or even a larger rock, but some of those obstacles that stop my char are really too small to warrant any type of "collision".

They could add the collision as it works in Ryzom. NPC's you still buimp into. But if you walk into them for 5 secs you will pass through them. Same could be done for other players.

Not just that reason but I've had huge issues with that in world of warcraft. Not being able to turn in quests because a big fat tauren was blocking the NPC. In the latest xpack they actually addressed this by putting invisible circles around certain NPC's in which you can't enter.

Collision detection is on NPC's though because in beta the rage was unreal! Everyone was crying that they didn't have collision detection so that added it.

Less an issue in ESO as caracters are more equal in size but think you could done it with an fat orc in wedding dress.
