Just got Eso, need some help

Hey guys,

Just decided to try out Eso for a month. Now my question is about leveling. I want to start a nightblade, I have searched some info, and seen that you can play as multiple roles. Now when I am leveling should I try out every skill, and level them all. Or should i focus on one build? At high level I would like to switch out every now and then, from 1h/shield tank with heavy armor to dual wield or bow rogue with medium armor to staf with cloth etc. So how should I use my skills when leveling? ( is the switching easy, anything like dual spec and is it expensice?)

Thanks in advance

I'd recommend leveling all of your class trees as you go. Have at least one skill from each tree on your bar. Of course you can focus on the ones you like most, but this way you're opening them all up. As for armor, decide which you'll want to wear, equip five pieces of that type, and then one each of the other two. Doesn't hurt to be leveling those up as well.

This way if you change your mind later, there's less of a grind going back and leveling specific trees or armor types.

great, and with the weapon lines, is it possible to change them at level 15 for instance and still be able to kill thing. For example I start with dual wield, and at level 15 I switch to 1h/shield, will this give me a hard time leveling then?

You can respec at L20 so honestly, get stuck into the game and try things out - the content isn't that tough in the early game.

However, if you want to focus immediately and from the offset 'get it right' as it were, then i'd suggest picking your desired weapon choice and sticking with it til L15 (which is when you have weapon swapping) minimum.

Wear 5 pieces of your preferred armour type, and 1 piece for each of the others (5 heavy, 1 light belt, 1 medium bracer for instance) so that you're levelling them up as you play, but with a greater priority on heavy.

There's a lot more to it than this though - but remember, you're not penalising yourself if you want to level up 2 weapon types, as the only cap is on skillpoints, not the actual skill-line level itself.

    Hope that makes sense.

Great makes sense thanks guys! One last question, any tips on putting points in Stamina magicka or health? And which mod is the one that gives you scrolling combat text like in other MMO"s, not the foundry tactical one, but i saw another one more like wow. Sorry for all the questions but its quite overwhelming and I don't want to make stupid mistakes which I will regret end game.

All your skill decisions (besides points put in to your horse) can be changed/respec'd so if you'd like the freedom to experiment feel free to. Otherwise, for most people, dumping in to health is a good bet.

Well, health gives you 15 HP for each point spent, whereas the other two give you 10 points in the stat for each attribute point spent. Because of this, a lot of players end up putting all points into health and using glyphs to cap the other stat they want to stack.

However, at lower levels you're likely not going to be worried too much about armor enchantments or having set gear, etc. Honestly, I'm grinding up an alt right now, and I just stuck the points into whatever resource I was having the most trouble managing. I'll be respec'ing my attribute points on that alt later, once I've fully decided what kind of build I'm going for. At the moment I'm torn between magicka- or stamina-based, but tend to run out of magicka really quickly, so I put my points in magicka.

Not everyone may agree with that approach, however.

Re-allocating skill and attribute points is super-easy, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

That said, just seek balance between your enchantments and where you assign attribute points. Health will always be important, but figure out how much magicka and stamina is good for your build as you go.

There are only two megaservers: North American and European. :)

And yeah, you'll get murdered in pvp. But do it anyway, it's kinda fun lol

@Collyn - So you will see that your main bar is going to be taken by the skills that you like the most and they will max rather quickly. It can be difficult to change those skills for others just because you want to level them, but not necessarily change your play style. So here is a quick plan for the skills and how it works:

XP is granted by turning in quests, killing mobs, discovering areas, defeating world bosses, closing dolmens. Since the majority of them are done with your main skill bar (meaning the skills you use the most), you still have the option at level 15, to gain a second bar. On the second bar, you can place skills that you want to level so they are available to you IF you want to use them later. Your XP goes into the bar you have equipped and to your character level. So when you go to turn in quests, switch to your secondary bar with the optional skills and turn in said quest. This will put the XP gain on your "optional" skills and your character.

    Example:

BAR #1 - All dps skills. These level from exploring, dolmens, mobs, etc.
BAR #2 - Tank skills. Swap when turning in quests.

This will allow you to open skills and level them without the need to change play style or skills all the time. However, if at a later time you want to try out tanking, you will have the line maxxed out and all the skills open, which will keep you competitive. Just keep an eye on the secondary skills. When they are morphed and at max level, change them for others. This will help distribute the XP into all the skills without you learning how to use them all right away. Armor is as said above. 5 medium / 1 light / 1 heavy (or whatever combo you want). This will give you all the passives from each line, as well as the skills. And you will be able to change them to suit whatever build style you want.

The only problem then will be skill points. You will find that you need more than normal. Download the skyshard add-on. Gather 3 and gain a skill point. This should allow you to have some handy whenever you want to morph or gain a specific skill.

Sorry so long and I hope that helps a little. Happy hunting and welcome to the game.

    Welcome to the game!

Nighblades are a lot of fun. My NB is maxed in Dual Wield and restoration staff, almost maxed in bow and at around level 40 in destruction staff.

If you follow the advice others have given you, you can easily level enough skills to switch play styles/roles completely later in the game if you so wish.

If you need any info about how crafting works, feel free to message me in-game. I'm @AlnilamE there too.

    Hmmm.... things they haven't mentioned:
    • look at all of your character skill-lines and hover the cursor over the experience bar underneath the skill-lines title to get a tooltip telling you how to level up the skills. Some skill-lines level by critter kills, others by having perks on the active hotbar.
    • Go to a help site like UESP for information on the morphs, some of them are awesome for certain classes.
    • Join the Fighters Guild get "Silver Bolts" asap.
    • Look at your controls and consider how to make them more useful to you specifically.
    • Learn to "interrupt" whenever opponents look to be doing something "special"
