Melee weapons and light armor dont really mix in this game, they require entirely different stats to be effective. You need to focus on weapon damage, weapon critical, and stamina in order to effectively use any of the non-staff weapons, and light armor doesnt provide any of those stats.

I just realized, what if a mixture of medium and light were worn? I could maintain my "idea" with just one piece of light armor to be honest (the chest). Would there be a feasible way to do it that way?

You can wear light chest and head to keep the feel of wearing cloth and put 5 medium under it. That would do the trick for you I think.

edit2: I've actually played my sorc mostly as DW. There is some great synergy in PvE with Critical Surge, Boundless Storm, Blood Craze and Steel Tornado (although I prefer the other morph myself).
You can use Flying Blade as a sort of finisher, or put in Crystal Frags to proc off Surge and Storm.
It's a really fun and cool build to play, it just doesn't work so well in PvP as the heals from Surge never really come since everyone is stacked up on Impen.

If your two pieces of Light Armor are Valkyn Skoria, it will work, provided you have some DoTs.
