Natural Dodge/Miss chance?

I can't find info on this...but I want to know: Is there such a thing as a natural dodge/miss chance that is just based on your stats or will you ALWAYS hit unless the enemy has a special set or buff/skill?

nope no natural defence - all is connected to player actions. beside flat armor/resist mitigation.

Darn, I wish there was. I have seen enemy "rouge" type mobs do a doge on occasion, but for characters, only when they use some skill. Which of course those mobs may have been using too...

But for characters, methinks the only way to really miss is to swing your sword while your targeting mark is not pointing at the mob you want to hit. That or if some spider is crawling on the ground between you and your intended target... :frowning:

As for my experience, I found that with medium armor in melee combat like my main I am generally having a harder time then my heavy armor alts. The damage output is nice, no question... but I get hurt a lot more before the mobs are done in then my platemailed comrades. Since the character in question is a backstabbing daggerhappy nightblade, when I fumble my backstab, I sometimes even am in trouble against trash mobs, something my armored templar or dragonknight only laugh at.
In those instances, I wished the medium armor had some small percentage chance of a dodge (10 or even only 5%) that could be increased by "evade" instead of relying only on that skill for defensiveness. Just to make me feel better.

The history bark crafted set gives you % dodge chance, but only when blocking iirc.

Hist Bark, not History, it's named after the Hist Tree in the game.

Many NPCs including bosses use abilities like blinding light, ash cloud, sparks, etc (and some NPC only abilities) even NPCs that don't look like they would (monster bosses). Because most of these animations are pretty basic and are really easy to miss and thus was born the 'natural dodge/miss chance' myth that's been going on.

HOWEVER, if you're lower than something like 10/20+ levels of the NPC (I don't remember exactly, made getting vamp at level 3 really hard before instance scaling) there IS a natural miss chance. For VR levels every hit is 100% before modifiers.

Sad story, I was attempting to explain to someone a boss uses sparks the other day and the jerk decided to scream at me telling me he's always used pierce armor as a taunt and proceeded to tell me how good of a tank he is and that I should shut up. Finally I gave up and had someone else in the group tell him the boss has a natural miss chance and to just use inner fire and he believed it. It's just easier to tell people its a 'natural miss chance' than try to explain taunt/miss mechanics sometimes. They seem to believe in voodoo over reality.

Use Medium Armor skill for 15% dodge chance. *Edit: When you morph it* Add up 1% for every additionnal Medium armor pieces you wear.

Also the timer is very good, I'm only at Morph lvl 1 and It's a cooldown of like 21sec so you don't have to cast it too often.

And the special effect of this skill is awesome it turns you transparent.
