If the game goes ftp/btp -

Well, with the increasing rumors and clues on the internet, it's starting to look like this might happen. I'm not going to repost all of those theories, I just wanted to make a simple request:

If the game does go ftp/btp, please do it right. Look at DDO as a model. When DDO went ftp, they kept a subscription option for people who wanted access to all the in-game content, without having to buy each module as it was released. They kept the in-game cash store limited to convenience items, and not game changing pay-to-win items. Some would argue that the items sold - potions, experience boosts, backpack upgrades, etc., are sort of pay to win, but they didn't replace any of the raid items or end game loot. They didn't allow you to have more character skills/powers or better items than someone who didn't pay money.

In DDO, there are still regular updates and new content is added quite often (well as of about a year ago when I last played.) If you don't want to subscribe, you can still access non-free content by paying for it a module at a time. It would be equivalent to people having to pay a one time fee in order to go to Craglorn.

I am NOT encouraging ZOS to go ftp! Trust me, I subscribed to DDO, and I still ended up spending FAR more money over time when it went FTP. Buying potions, etc., is quite addictive. Don't have time to go farm some mana pots? Eh, what's another 5 bucks on the store for a stack...

I just don't want ZOS to stop making quality content in lieu of cash grab items for their pay-to-win store. Eh, the whole thing is making me feel depressed. I'm going to stop talking about it now.

The only rumors on the web are started by those who do not want to pay for the game they are playing.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    sigh.

forum post about sky is falling -> stupid website -> aggregator click bait website -> moar stupid website -> forum post about sky is falling proof because stupid website reported on sky is falling -> stupid website ->aggregator click bait website -> kill myself.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

I mentioned about this type of F2P in a stream chat and got skewered. Understand that I do not really want this game to go F2P but if it must for business reason, this I feel this is the better model for NA. I believe that the ugliest models are the Korean models. With this model you can still buy the monthly subscription witch gives good perks over the F2P player.

The down side to this happening will happen as it did in LoTRO, which also uses this model. LoTRO use to have a wonderful community much like the community here. When it went F2P the chat went caustic. It has gotten better as those players left the game out of boredom, but never was like the early days of the game. If they go free to play this community will change with the influx of WSFN (want something for nothing) internet sewer rats.

I didn't know about DDO's F2P model. That was very informative. Thank you.

I didn't quote the specific reasons why I am starting to believe the rumors for a reason; there are plenty of threads for that. I'm just trying to have a discussion about how I hope ZOS does it right, IF they do it. I certainly am one that hopes they don't.

There were at least half a dozen other threads already discussing this. Most of these with plenty of information, links, and commentary.

There was no need to make this thread other than to cause more unrest and aggravation.

I am going to mock you sir, most severely.

Your mockery is received with disdain, good sir! I read through an entire front page of posts and saw none discussing the topic of FTP in the same vein that my clever post does.

I see that my quick wit has left another foe trembling with anxious envy.

Shall I taunt you again? ((Umm yeah so I don't care how it is implemented, if it happens I am out))

I would agree if I had another decent MMO to play right now. I really like ESO lore, and there are a lot of things I like about the game. If it happens, I will at least give them a chance to see how it shakes out.

Just wanted to thank ZOS for keeping it pretty classy. I understand market forces couldn't be denied, but you could have done a lot worse. I'm happy that those of us that like a sub, can still keep it and benefit from all the new DLC. It's pretty darn similar to the DDO model I was talking about in my OP.
