What's your reason for playing ESO over other MMORPGs?

Lots of reasons for me, First Elder Scrolls fan from the first game they released, ESO is not another cookie cutter wow clone, I like the 3 faction rvr, I like the exploration they offer, I just don't find a lot of these elements in other games, I have been playing mmo's since the 1990's and I find ESO a nice breath of fresh air in a world of clone games, at least for me.

In a nutshell: It just feels like home.

After trying countless MMOs since the first time I left WoW many years ago, ESO is finally the one I've been searching for.

I like the Elder Scrolls universe and I think Zenimax did a pretty good job bringing it on-line. Prior to this I never played an MMO, because it seems they were getting bad press in the places I visited. ESO is ok though. There was a transition to make (theme park) but it's not too bad.
Please stop making requests for game features. ZOS have enough bad ideas as it is!

I prefer Eso insted others rpgs because the quality of graphics, simplicity of interface (let me watch the game playing, others games i spent all time looking to skill bars clicking them...) and also the pvp epic batlles , but this one is getting away of my pleasure, lag(fights above 20vs20 is a no go for a melee player, skill lag occour, rubber banding, etc..) , faction locks with FEW people in it(makes less places to fight and the epic fights sensation is gone, you wait queu line of 90 then you have one place fighting), etc... thats how i experience this game atm. Still the best RPG to spent my free time, still....

For me its because its Elderscrolls. I always wanted a multiplayer option for the game series. This seems more overkill for that desire though.

I am sad to report that since launch this game in the ES series has been under developed and severely lacking for the cost of its subscription. Not to mention the huge communication blackout we have had this month alone.

But with all its bad parts, it has been very interesting and fun in other parts that I enjoyed. Eitherway this game has a huge amount of effort to put in to make this game worth recommending to my friends over others.

    Short answer: Because it's awesome.

Not so short answer: Because it's a decent approximation of an Elder Scrolls MMO.

    Long answer: Because ...
    • Clean, uncluttered interface.
    • Simple yet deep, dynamic combat system.
    • Decent storylines (if a bit light on the characters side).
    • Excellent questing mechanics.
    • Exploration is rewarding.
    • Crafting is mildly interesting.
    • And is a great way to obtain gear.
    • Reward mechanics strongly encourage player cooperation.
    • Cleverly tuned day to night cycle.
    • And weather effects.
    Also, but not ESO specific:
    • Good overall presentation.
    • Decent graphics in this day and age.
    • In particular, awesome lighting and overall atmosphere.
    • Also, great, unobtrusive music.
    • And runs reasonably well.
Is what I can think of right now.

Also, because it had to be emphasized, "open ended" character building.

    The reason I started playing:

    - Since my old MMO went F2P development went to a trickle
    - I loved Skyrim
    - ESO has raids and dungeons

    The reason I continue playing:

    - I actually enjoyed the pve questing (not usual for me)
    - My character is awesome and has lots of flexibility
    - I'm really enjoying PvP
    - I'm really enjoying the Trials and Dungeons
    - The content releases are very regular and I'm excited about new stuff.
    - I have made lots of new friends

Not so overjoyed about pvp lag and no AH, current trading sux big time.

    1. It's Elder Scrolls. I've played every game in the series and this was no exception. I love the lore and the setting, it's deep and enjoyable.
    2. It's immersive. The armor, the races, their dialogue. The way I can pick up items, the way I can loot containers, it's all really enjoyable and adds up to a great time.
    3. The world feels fleshed out and authentic. Compared to Guild Wars 2, this game's writing is far superior. I don't feel like I'm playing fan fiction. The game doesn't feel dumbed down and the world is a pleasure to explore.
    4. It has quests. After GW2, this is a mandatory feature.
    5. It's focused on the journey as well as endgame. I feel no pressure to level up, if anything I feel like I should slow down and enjoy the scenery. And what gorgeous scenery it is!
    6. It was on sale. Thanks Gabe!
    7. Great customer support. I had a few issues with Mac drivers and support has been, well, supportive.
    8. It doesn't try to be WoW. I play WoW and this, and I don't feel like they're competing for my desires.

    Morrowind.

Still have the original game, still occasionally play it.

That being said ... Alits and Kagouti are way too small, mud crabs are way too small (and they don't look like that - ack - they should look like piles of mud - hence the name MUD crabs), and cliff racers - who ever designed them must have never played actual Morrowind. Argh!!

Reason number two: the ES universe/lore. Love the detail. Heck, I even love the fanfic. I even write some of it. Yes that is a sad commentary on my sanity. Oh well.

    Reason number three: Malukah's voice.

Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

For me it's the beautiful world and the items. Armors and weapons look decent too, unlike most other MMOs out there where you are wearing rags (Path of Exile), wielding gigantic and unrealistic weapons (Final Fantasy), have armor that makes your fist look larger than your head (Diablo 3), or have races and armors that simply look ridiculous (Guild Wars 2). I just wish ESO had a bit more variety for armor styles and a group finder that actually works, but apart from that it's a great game.

When you mention seeing panda bears are you referring to wow? Because that was around the time I gave up on that game for a rediculous class I mean...panda bears?! The next race could only be better, talking toads or piglet hammy's ?

Yes. I downloaded, tried, and deleted WoW all within the same day. Some might say I didn't give it a fair chance, it has great mechanics, or whatever reason they love it and think I should have too...but I couldn't get over the look of it long enough to see whatever merits it may have. This bunny has a bunch of kids (bunnies do what bunnies do lol) and when I look to immerse myself in a world, I don't want it to look like the cartoon one of said kids was just watching.

For ESO over other MMO's sake, it also helps that my husband introduced me to the RPG world with Oblivion, which I loved so much I backtracked to Morrowind. I didn't like Skyrim very much (heresy I know!), but was dying waiting for ESO to finally go live.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

The idiot game director destroyed Age of Conan or I'd still be playing that.
I refused to give Secret World a try because of what Funcon (not a typo there) did to Age of Conan. They get no more money from me.

SWTOR is fun but so scattered and I didn't find the depth of RP I was looking for there.

EVE is cool but I'm just not into essentially being a spaceship AND I'll never give CCP another dime after what they did to World of Darkness.

Wasn't crazy about LOTR's art style and the genre isn't "dark" enough for me.

WoW is cute and cartoony and was my gateway drug to MMO's. I could never go back though. It's a kid's game.

I play THIS game because I really liked Skyrim AND it has vampires. Incredibly POORLY DONE vampires...but vampires nonetheless. When a game comes out that finally does vampires better, and if this game has made no serious move to radically improve vampires, I'm gone.

I play THIS game because they've given me a beautiful world to explore with an art style I'm in love with.

I play THIS game because I am part of THE most awesome guild on the server and my guildies are wonderful people.

NOTHING about the way this game is run nor its mechanics especially impresses me. It is pretty much things that have nothing to do with ZOS that keeps me here at present. ZOS has made it pretty clear that they absolutely do NOT support my playstyle or the things that are important to me as a player. So I have zero loyalty to this game outside the great people in my guild. When something better finally comes along, I'll convince as many of them as I can to leave with me. So, basically, ZOS has that long (however long it may be) to get their act together for me. Yeah, I know they don't care.

Wait, is that why they're called mud crabs? I thought it was because they typically lived in mud...

Side note: the very first time I played Skyrim everything was going fine until I got to Riverwood and noticed something moving beside the river. Went over to see what it was (spoiler: it was a mud crab) and got slaughtered by the mud crab before I knew what was happening... Boy was that embarrassing. Sure, I was brand new to the game, but I had killed fearsome bears and bandits on the way over there, and then a lowly mud crab ended me :(

Teso has some impressive Things to offer.

    1. It is not F2P, this is very important. I support good Games with my Money and i like P2P. F2P is the Beginning of the End of a MMORPG. I hope they never change this Game to F2P.

    2. Sounds & Voices: Teso has some of the best Sounds, that i have ever hear in a MMORPG. Weather, Combat or Animals, It is very Detailed and sounds realistic.

The NPCs speaks loud and clearly about everything that is important for the Quests and more. I mean, you stand at a Market and can hear NPCs telling Stories about Tamriel, long Stories. Or you can talk to NPCs that have nothing to do with the Questline, and they told you Stories about their Life. It is fantastic.

    3. Graphics & Animations: The Animations are really cool, look at the Fingers of your Character, the Mimic and all the little Details in Effects. The Shadow & Lightning-System is one of the best i have ever seen, in a MMORPG.

The Graphic is detailed and has it own Style, and it runs smooth. The new Face Animation-System is fantastic, i like to see the NPCs talking.

    4. Combat System: It is fast, feels smooth and you need it to survive the harder Situations. Blocking & Dodging makes fun, the CC Break works fine and the Synergie Idea looks good.

A Fight in Teso isnt boring, you always need Movement and Reactions.

    5. Tamriel: The World looks beautiful, you see NPCs talking or running around. You see Dogs chasing Cats, Pets moving around the Area. Insects, Lizards and so on and on. It is very detailed, i like it.

    6. PvP: I love DaoC, the PvP was fantastic there. Teso isnt DaoC but it has a fantastic PvP too. The Castle Sieges are really cool and if you fight in smaller Groups, the Battles are very funny.

PvP runs smooth, except the gigantic Zergs. The only Thing that nerves are the Crashes, but i think they will handle this in the Future.

The PvP has a very good Base in Teso and if they work on it, it will be very good.

    7. Crafting System: I love Crafting in Teso. Here you can reach the Masterlevel in Crafting without Raids. All and Everyone can learn Crafting.

It helps from the Start, because the Equip is really better then the normal Loot. The crafted Loot is mostly better then the Raid Loot, you dont need to do Trials, to be good equiped. A very good Base for the Future.

    8. Devs & Community: The Devs hear what the Community says. They hear what we want and try to build this Ingame. Sure, they CANT do all what we want, but i have never seen such a good Dev-Team, like in Teso. Eso & Live is really cool, i think we all could say *Thank you, Zenimax & Teams*.

    9. The Future: Teso isnt perfect but it has a damn good Base. The Future Ideas from Zenimax are very cool. Like the Champion or Justice-System or Spellcrafting.

They work hard on their Updates, normaly they push them out like a Clockwork (Every 6 Weeks) or near that, if the Update is bigger (1.6).I am hot for the Ideas and Updates that the Devs in the Future offers.

    10. The Elder Scrolls Online: It is an Elder Scrolls Online Game :D .

Cause its an Elderscrolls game. Play WoW for like 6+ years and realized they didn't give a rats ass about loyalty from their customers only focusing on attracting new players with gifts and such.

SWTOR was actually fun and exciting and love the roleplaying aspect of the dialogue choices and varying game play elements. Going F2P while rewarding loyal subscribers was also a bonus for me.

ESO on the other hand started out with a terrible buggy launch, can't tell you the number of broken quests I encountered and had to wait till patch releases to finish or outright ignore and forget about them. LFG tool is absolute garbage and it lacks the RP replay value of dialogue choices SWTOR while still maintaining the greedy nature of "Give me more money!" of WoW. They also focus much of their attention on pimping out their other merchandise. It took almost half a year to finally fix the glitch with enchanting.

Their communication and respect for their customers is also awful as proven with this whole 6 month sub removal and F2P rumor nonsense and a lot of friends and family have left the game to go back to well established MMO's like WoW or other F2P ones.

But the main reason I am still here is because its an Elderscrolls game. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except die hard elderscroll fan players with money to burn.
