I'm looking for a FREE voice communication app for my wife and I to use. Both computers are on a local network. Basically we want to be able to use headsets to communicate since the computers are on opposite ends of the house.

Would Skype work? Again, I don't want to have to buy a sub like with TeamSpeak/Mumble ect. I saw some various freeware on the 'net but I'm not wanting to just try some random, would rather use something that other people have used successfully.

Skype, google hangouts, walkie talkies, cups on a string. I'm sure there are just do a quick google for it. I'd do google hangout cause I notice Skype likes to eat up bandwidth and drop out a lot

I used to use Skype to play with my son, always worked fine for us. I now have a TS3 server, I know is an outlay for just 2 of you, but it only costs me £2 per month for 15 slots, so it is roughly the price of a beer, it's not too bad, and would be handy if you wanted ever to include friends, guildees etc

You can run Teamspeak over your local network for free. Your computer is the host server so your computers IP will be the server address then you port forward the right ports and run the TS3 server client and boom! Keep it running, connect to it via the TS3 client app and then your wife does the same and you have your on Local Teamspeak :)

You can make it public for people to join but requires a static IP and blah blah.

Plenty of tutorials, very easy to do.

Skype will work. Also you are able to install local server of TS3 or Mumble so no need to buy server time for those.

My computer is next to my partner's... We don't talk just bitterly stare at each other waiting for the other to slowly lose his insanity because of the game's faulty mechanics. Then laugh as they do.

Raidcall would also be a option. But if there are only a small amount of players in your family, skype is the way to go.

Just wondering... why not just move the two computers into the same room? I have a friend I play with on ESO and from time to time we get together, laptops back to back and play... it's a blast!

You people with gaming spouses/partners are lucky.

Jumping on to the Skype bandwagon for a duo...but I greatly prefer hosting my own mumble server.
