Question for end game PvE players

Dantonian_Rarstiana
Hey, I have reached a point in WoW where I really only need to log in for raids, and that's it. I am going to be starting up in ESO again, and I would like to start with a fresh character.

So, for you end game PvE players, what class / role is the most in demand? what do you for-see being the most in demand in the future?

I don't really have any interest in themepark PvP, so just the viewpoint of end game raids is preferred.

I played a healing templar back when ESO first launched, and i loved the *** out of it... but I am open to anything. Whatever is needed most honestly.

Thanks

I'm not an expert on PVE but I can try and help.

Templar Healers are still needed, although currently some of the more elite guilds have been using Nightblade healers.

All the classes have their set roles to fill in a group, however in most groups magicka/staff is still the recommended or required choice.

Note as well that most of the builds and tactics in the game will get a huge shake up in February due to 1.6 being released bringing skill changes and new mechanics.

Thanks Turelus, I guess I will just make a Sorcerer then. They seem pretty interesting to me.

NP. I believe right now Sorcerers are considered a little weak by many on the DPS front (DK is still king of that) but they're much loved for their Negate ultimate and good consistent DPS.

Many of my friends who run with top PVE guilds have been speculating that Sorcerer will be one of the best DPS in 1.6 as well due to some changes being made to skills/staves.

    Awesome,
    How are they on healing?
I would prefer to play a class that can at least hybrid something.

I have heard they can be good healers, and had a friend heal a VR dungeon for me with his Sorcerer. I can't really give you an exact answer on that as I don't have much experience past one dungeon with it.

I know Templar Healers are wanted more in most cases of dedicated healing, I can't see why people would dislike having a sorc with a heals on their off bar.

In the current state of the game they can boost their Restoration Staff abilities with weapon power and have a skill (the name eludes me) which ups their weapon damage by a considerable amount for a time.

This is again all subject to change in 1.6

Currently any hybrid build is going to get you scoffed at in the trials. That's not to say you can't find a semi-casual raid guild that doesn't care what your build is but most pugged groups will probably pass you over. In this regard it's best to stick with the "pure" builds.

In terms of rankings it would currently look something like this:

    DPS: DK>NB>SC>TP
    TANK: DK>TP>SC>NB
    HEALS: TP>NB>SC>DK

As you can see overall rankings would be something like:
    DK>TP>NB>SC

With that said, I play a Sorc and love it. My dps will never be as good as a DK or a NB and I will never be able to heal as good as a TP. What I do have is Negate and that gets me in the door. Hopefully we see some changes to MO in the Update 6.

EDIT: Don't bother doing a Sorc healer specifically as a goal for endgame content. The raids require TP healers exclusively and a Sorc healer is used as off-heals in the event that the dps is lacking and the fights are taking too long. So if you enjoy heals go TP. A Sorc should be built for dps with heals as an after thought for raids. With that said though, a sorc can main heal 95% of the content in the game, just not raids.

Poeple are generally asking for TANKS in the zone chat. Game has plenty plenty of healers. We are also missing GOOD Dps (from my experience in PUGS, DPS are often not doing enough damage)

I'm playing Daggerfall Covenant on EU megaserver. Might be different on other faction and Na server.

Thanks for the replies, and letting me know where sorc stood before I got too invested to change.

FYI as far as hybrid goes, I meant not that I would simultaneously heal and DPS, but that I could be pure heals or pure DPS or pure tank depending on what the group / guild was looking for.

Once you get enough skill points, it's easy to swap roles.

Two things can really help this.
    1. Put all attribute point in health (then you resource and power come from gear, so if you change role, you just change gear and you instantly have the right stats)
    2. Crate an alt just for crafting, this allows you to use all your mains skill points for combat abilities.

Probably Tanks, and DKs are still the best at that, and still do decent dps while tanking unlike other classes who choose to tank.

It depends on if you're looking for 4 men content or raids. 4 men content it's always good to be tank or healer, i.e. DK ( best tank ) or Templar ( best healer, decent tank ). Nightblade works as tank and healer as well, takes a little more effort though. Sorcs usually play as DPS, sometimes as healers, haven't seen one as a tank in a long time, so not sure how they rank on that front at the moment.

If you're looking for raids and not part of a regular group for that kind of content yet, your best bet is probably a damage dealer, because there are simply many more spots for them. Tanks and dedicated healers don't stack well or at all, dps do. DKs and NBs are currently the first choices and on roughly the same level, with Sorcs trailing somewhat behind and Templars dead last by a large margin.

Speculation on 1.6 is at the moment just that, speculation. We don't know the whole picture yet.

Well, DKs are best tanks and one of best dps so there's that. NBs are wonderful dps(possibly best if played right) and great tanks, too. Templar are about the only healers people want for most endgame content(other classes CAN heal most of the content but best non templar healer will always be worse than best templar healer) and can be great tanks, too. Sorc are kinda sad now, pretty much only dps and not the best ones still.

1.6 might change a lot of things though.

    Worst decision you could make.

Sorcs are currently worst at all three roles, and are only getting a SLIGHT improvement in 1.6... and ONLY if you want to use pets.
