Is there room for an TES fan in this game?

rexisnotmydogb14_ESO
I can't be the only one! All the years I've played this franchise since Morrowind, and the only reason I'm playing is because I miss TES.

So my style of game play includes:

Several different characters. I have 6 slots filled. I wanted to play each class and a couple of classes I wanted to try different aspects. I have 3 sorcs, and two temps. 1 DK.

Listening to dialogue and selecting every option. People got paid to act these parts out. Remember how cool it was when Oblivion first introduced talking characters? This is escapism for me, total immersion. Making choices, role playing. Things that entertain.

Crafting. Takes a lot of time and effort. Farming mats and researching traits and all that stuff.

I'm a beta tester and have been playing almost non-stop since launch. I don't work, so my job is basically chores and this game. I have 6 toons at lvl 46, each one crafting and sharing equip for the others.

I love this game, but I feel like I'm by myself. I can never find a group, all my guilds are now almost entirely vets. Everyone is a vet. Anyone who is not a vet is usually an alt who is zooming through everything with a web-based build and walk-through.

I am almost to vet level for each of my characters, I'm just hoping that by the time I get 6 vets to VR1 everyone in the whole game won't already be VR14 and I'll still be alone in the zones.

Please tell me I'm not alone.

I'm a lot like you. I play ESO only because it's part of the ES franchise, and have been playing TES since Morrowind (and recently started Arena). I love ES for the lore and immersion, and seek to explore as much of the story and world as possible.

Unfortunately I don't have as much time to play ;) ... I've been playing since early release and only have one char at 21 and another at 48 (and a 3rd still waiting to start). You're definitely not alone though in your appreciation of what makes TES great.

You are definitely not alone. Announcing your enjoyment of TES, and the world of ESO itself, rather than subscribing to the standard numberchasing ideals may attract some interesting comments on the boards though. Especially General.

Sadly I don't have as much time, or as many alts as you though.

nope not alone... but I'm only level 32 on one character, 25 on another, and 7 on another... been playing since Beta.

I too feel it's near impossible to find someone to play with. If you're not on the EXACT same mission... you're just screwed. One of my alts (level 25) is reserved for playing with the one person I play with and we ONLY play those characters when we can play together. That is really the only way to play "together" in this game.

Finding new people to play with on a regular basis if you're NOT a vet level character running dungeons? Impossible.

Oh, I've been playing the series since Arena but didn't get "serious" with the games until Morrowind. I consider myself a long-time fan. I also ever only seriously played one other MMO. DCUO. So I'm not really from the MMO side of this fanbase.

    Nope, you're not alone!

I love everything about ES! Been playing since Arena. Same as you, it's escapism for me - I enjoy totally immersing myself into the lore and love to explore every part I can of Tamriel. :)

I have characters at various levels ranging from 3 - VR12. Due to work, I don't get as much time to play as I used to, but I'd love to group up with you sometime if possible. Feel free to send me a friend request @‌kip_silverwolf

Though I expect even if you don't have as much time to play as some... you will always find some people around, new characters get made every day after all... be it alts or game newbies.

I am also an TES fan. I started with Skyrim and then went back to play Oblivion. On top of the 4 characters I named in my signature I actually have 3 others. My V 14's are my two mains but the other's are fun. I usually make new characters once a week or every two weeks. I want to make an argonian character at some point too.

This game is obviously full of TES fans. As far as a group goes, you'll only find one for group activities. No one is going to follow you around while you solo quest. New game with new features means that we will adapt to play it the way it is most comfortable. You might not remember, but you probably adapted to the older games as well.

Nope, Not alone. I'll add a bit of my own comment for grouping. I love to group,, but I never have time for it. The time I do get a chance to play has become completely random as of late, I don't know I'm gonna get to play until I sit down and log on. This makes it very hard to find folks who like to take their time like I do, so I've gotten to where I don't even try anymore.

Im definitely a TES fan first. I always liked the idea of MMOs and while I've played a few, most of them suck.

Without all the things that make this TES (lore, writing, immersive world, exploration, mystery, ect) I wouldn't be here.

Well, considering I began with Morrowind (but also took a look back at Daggerfall for the completionist feeling) I'd consider myself a TES fan as well, despite their shortcomings in the narrative department.

This brings me straight to ESO - the first TES game that in my opinion actually delivers somewhat more on the narrative bit. I am an all-kinds-of-player who enjoys pretty much every aspect, from questing and PvE in general to crafting to PvP to competing in endgame matters.

However I follow a very clear path of sorts, that being I have a single main character and I spend pretty much all of my time on that one. Why? Because I went through many many hours of deciding which race/class/role I want to play, both from a gameplay perspective but also from a sort of RP-perspective, despite avoiding RP in TESO at all costs (this has to do with me getting my RP fix in real-life once a week as a storyteller for an ongoing campaign in a different setting) - I just wouldn't have enough time to do all the things I currently do plus RP in ESO. To put it simply - I knew I wanted to play a vampire Dragonknight tank from Day 1 after the beta, it was the beta where I tried out all kinds of characters ;)

So... while I understand your approach at trying out all the things, being VR does not default you to having zoomed through things at all. Some people simply focus way more on a single character or maybe two. Right now I am hunting down some of the achievements and getting one of my mates up to VR14 (currently VR 12) so that him and two more of my mates can finally go do the harder content together :)

I've been playing since May and my first alt reached Vet in mid-December. I'm now playing through the AD storyline on a different Alt with a different class. I have 16 Alts, so, no, you're not alone. I love to explore and character develop.

I'm a TES guy since Arena, been playing ESO since beta, and really enjoy it. I don't group much, mostly do PVE - I have a VR3 Sorc, 49 DK, and am currently focusing on my 31 sorc. I dig the similarities, but also the slight differences. I really like that all parts of the world do not level with my char (as in TES games). I can go sneak around in a very difficult region trying to grab a few skyshards & discover wayshrines, or go back to regions where I rule like a god. Keeps it interesting.
I do some PUG stuff, and dig just fighting alongside folks in public delves & dungeons, dolmens, & world bosses, as well as just helping out as I encounter folks. It's like NPC's with a lot more personality.

I don't think being Alta-holic is a TES thing. I usually only made 2-3 characters per tes game.

People with altaholism exist in every RPG.

I recently just got my first char to V14 but I also took over 3 months off.

Grouping in missions is a HUGE issue I hope ZOS takes a look at in the future . A lot of content is solo based over layed with instance layering that is unfriendly to grouping .

Its just frustrating because every time I group with someone I even go so far as to skim over the dialogue and EEE all the way through it and even then the people I'm with have already gone ahead and left me behind. (/whine)

Yes, it's probably the single biggest problem with ESO. I think the developers should take a good long critical look at The Secret World and what they have done with their missions (~95% are repeatable), and do similarly here.

One of the keys to a lasting and successful MMO is the ability of players to meet and form friendships readily with others in-game. One of the main ways to do that is through questing, and in this regard ESO is really behind the times. Fingers crossed they realise and amend!

In relation to the OP, yes I take my time too and enjoy the dialogue, but hardly anyone else in-game seems to, it's quite disheartening really; the impatience of the general player-base these days. If I can I read the the lore also when appropriate, walk around now and then, and just enjoy taking my time and playing the game. I enjoy The Elder Scrolls world and have done for many years now.
If you can be anything, be kind.

We're not all like that though! There's nothing wrong with asking them to wait till everyone's done reading and, keep the group together.

I'm here because I'm a hardcore TES fan since Daggerfall with thousands of hours in each game.

First, I said to me that the idea of a TES mmo was a mistake. Then I tested the game in beta and I liked. Then, some monhts after released I left because I felt this was just another random mmo using TES skin. Now I resubbed some weeks ago because all the new things coming. I'm trying to play the game more like a TES game and not like an MMO. I'm reading, walking without a real purpose, roleplaying and trying to fit the emptyness until a new TES game release.

I'm having fun and I like the game again a lot. I'm egaer to see the new Justice system and CP system.

I think it is a great game with a lot of potential, but it needs to be even more TES and they need to improve things like textures, nights (better stars, etc) and more immersion (like sitting no chairs, etc).

Of course, this is not like a TES single player game (that's impossible to achieve, just Bethesda can do it) but at least is TES universe.

No you are not alone. I have been hooked since Morrowind myself. I think the problem with people, like us in general, is that they have become so accustomed to the single player form of play that ES was built around, that grouping, by nature, is not the standard of game play. And I mean that politely to all who have been, and continue to be, fans. When this game went "online" for the MMO aspect, it has not been easy to stay true to the nature of ES by forming the group aspect. I don't like that when you have completed one quest, you have to wait for X person cause you cannot run it through with them. That makes grouping for questing a pain. And I am hoping, with some tweaks in the grouping to come from the devs, that part will work out. Plus the fact that it is still new, people are busy exploring things at different paces. Or that only 10% or so have gotten to end game, which is when they usually start to go back and challenge things like dungeons. Maybe I am wrong, I hope not, but we shall see right?

Definitely, as seen from people above, you are not alone.
Follow me if I advance, Kill me if I retreat, Avenge me if I die.

When this immediate evil power has been defeated, we shall not yet have won the long battle with the elemental barbarities. Another evil, it may be an invisible adversary, will attempt, again, and yet again, to destroy our frail civilization. Is it true, I wonder, that the only way to escape a war is to be in it?

If I die, you are forgiven, If I live, I will kill you.
