If CP system is a system of diminishing returns ...

... what are the chances that those first 30 points will give the same value as the rest 3000+ ?
Let's say first 30 CPs bring you an increase of 5% of something. How many points do you need to further increase that same something for another 5%? In diminishing return systems, that value usually becomes very, very little, very fast.

Impossible to answer, because diminishing returns only kick in if you try to pump a passive. If you spread your passives out evenly you would be much less affected than someone who tries to overspecialise.

In other words, it's up to you.

I very much doubt the point values will erode that fast, there are too many trees, with too many points to spread around for that to happen.

However, with that being said, I don't think it will take very long for the values to diminish quickly. I'd say within the first 500 points for sure.

So that is 470 points to gather at 4hours a pop (roughly) which equals 78 full days @ 24hrs a day to gather said points.

I am sure that value will be lower of course with some enlightenment spent (1hr per point), and once people have figured out how to game the system for maximum efficiency.

Still, I don't see it taking longer than 2 full months before the rift is vast and wide between hardcores and casuals.

I did some very basic math on this. The below shows the benefit of each point put into a single passive.
    1 1
    2 0.9
    3 0.81
    4 0.729
    5 0.6561
    6 0.59049
    7 0.531441
    8 0.4782969
    9 0.43046721
    10 0.387420489
    11 0.34867844
    12 0.313810596
    13 0.282429536
    14 0.254186583
    15 0.228767925
    16 0.205891132
    17 0.185302019
    18 0.166771817
    19 0.150094635
    20 0.135085172
    21 0.121576655
    22 0.109418989
    23 0.09847709
    24 0.088629381
    25 0.079766443

So after 25 points in a passive (no idea how high they will let it go), you only gain 0.079% compared to 1% at the first point.

They did mention that you loose 10% at each increase didn't they? I don't think I imagined that, I could have though.

So comparing power on different points is easy-
    5 4.0951
    10 6.513215599
    15 7.941088679
    20 8.784233454
    25 9.282102012
    30 9.576088417
    35 9.74968445
    40 9.852191171
    45 9.912720364
    50 9.948462248

So practically no increase from 25-50.

I went down to 0.000104496% at 88 points, then my excel sheet said enough of that.

Based on that assumption in the rate of decline the 100th point on any give tree would become almost literally worthless unless the perks gained are very good.

I would suspect if they did give a specific figure it will have been as an example rather than as an accurate calculation we can use - they have not exactly been open and honest about numbers on this subject so far so there is little reason to assume any numerical information will bear much resemblance to reality.

My own assumption based loosely on what they said (which may or may not have been true or subject to future total reversal) is that the perks for hitting various levels in a tree will essentially be quite powerful so whereas you might only get 0.001% stat benefit for the 100th point you might also gain a perk which kicks behind.
