Armor/Weapon Crafting Worth it?

I know in a lot of MMOs crafting professions that make weapons and armor are not worth investing in . Is that the case with ESO?

So, I'm wondering can I get better gear from encounters or is crafting on par with encounters? Do I supplement what I don't get from encounters with crafted gear? Do i just make stater set with crafted gear? Or, is it worthless to level crafting?

You'll be able to find some very nice gear in some of the late-game dungeons, end-game raids, or PvP boxes but crafted gear is still very good. It's also incredibly easy to do. If you've planned out what you want your character to do, I'd start crafting at least those things. For example, I wanted to play a medium armor bow user when I started so I started learning traits and leveling the clothing and woodworking skills so I could make myself gear.

Right now my nightblade is using 7 pieces of medium armor and two great swords that he crafted himself. The set bonuses I made the gear with provide me with 16% weapon crit, 4% spell crit, and a bonus to maximum stamina. Each piece of armor has reinforced, giving it more armor rating than any piece of dropped armor, and the swords are made with the precise trait for an extra 6% critical chance.

Crafting is definitely worth it in eso - maybe not as good as old school swg, but far better than any other mmo I've played since.

Crafting is very important in ESO. Even at end game, most roles have players wearing at least some pcs of crafted gear. You also need high enough crafting to improve your Trial dropped (mailed for weekly) gear to legendary once you are at level cap, or it costs WAY too much in Tempering materials. The set bonuses for crafted are slightly below the dropped gear in some cases, better than dropped gear in other cases. The other side to it is dropped gear often has horrible traits on it, or isn't available in the item you want. But for crafted gear, we can't yet make Jewelry so that will be dropped/purchased only until then.

Due to the limited scope of how you activate skills, there is absolutely no reason not to do crafting after level 50. If you enjoy the crafting grind, you'll have the skill points after you've beaten the main quest to do any or all of them.

Absolutely. Self-sufficiency is important. And it can prove to be a relaxing break from questing. A nice sense of achievement when you craft yourself a new shiny set of armor in which to go kill stuff.

The only way to guarantee set bonuses is to craft sets, which in turn require you to incest skill points and research traits.

There is always an argument over whether the best sets are crafted or not, but most seem to agree that a mix of dropped sets (specific dropped sets) and crafted sets (Again, specific Crafted Sets) is the best way to go.

So yes, crafting is worth investing in.

It doesn't seem to have been a critical component of my Templar Healers build so far but it's been essential to the survival of my Sorcerer. I haven't really advanced a NB or DK far enough to say whether mixing crafted sets is worthwhile for either. IMO when you're only playing L1-L50 characters then you can't keep usefully levelled dropped set items long enough to be better than crafted items which can always be built to level. You stay at level a lot longer in VR so you might actually have time to get decent use out of dropped set items.

If you only plan on creating a single character then you can make use of specialisation to what your character uses and then respeccing once you got what you need. To me this means 6 trait research on your gear research with infused and impenetrable for the VR levels.

I was going to write a big post, but decided to go with the basics. I always use my own crafted gear because I get the set bonuses that I want, when I want them. however, to get the best out of your gear, you will also need enchanting added to whatever else you want to learn.

Hundings Rage/Ashen Grip for the DK Stamina and Hundings Rage/Night Mother for the NB. Try it, you will like it.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I'm not a big fan of the set end listed features, I've usually just constructed the sets to give me pragmatic continuous adds so I have used, for both the Templar and Sorcerer, which are both magicka based, 3 Twilight and 2 each of Torug and Magnus. With my NB I've been considering using 2 of N.Silence, 2 N.Mother.G, 2 Hundings plus either an Armour boost like 2 Deaths Wind or Spell Resistance like 3 Whitestrakes. I prefer constant adds to situational boosts. However this relies on me growing more interested again in ESO than in Elite. At the moment I'm balancing them so progress through ESO is slower.

I prefer crafting my own armor sets and weapons pieces so that I can apply the traits and combinations I want that will best suit the given situation and my play style. As a Nightblade for PvE as an example I wear 5 pieces of Hunding Rage and 2 pieces of Ashen Grip. My weapons are 2 daggers Ashen Grip and a bow Ashen Grip. That complete set gives buffs in Health, Stamina, Weapon Critical, and Weapon Damage. For Traits the major pieces are all Infused to buff Health, Stamina or Magicka enchants with the rest Divines to buff the Shadow Mundus Stone that give Critical Weapon Damage. For weapons they are all complemented with the Precise Trait to enhance weapons and spell crit values and a combo of Fire and Poison Enchants on the daggers and Crushing on the Bow for armor penetration. Its hard to almost impossible to find that type of combination with dropped items. Therefore mastering Blacks Smithing, Clothing, Woodworking and enchanting is very important.

Been trying Orgnum on my DK to see how long she can stay alive. For my Templar I'm trying Twighlight with Sanctuary for healing dungeons. A good thing about maxing crafting is you can test all the sets on alts and pick a good combo.

    If you plan on trying several different characters and stay with the game;

Craft a level 4 set that has Training for the skills you want and Exploration to speed the first few low levels.

Put that set on a new character and just go get all the safe Skyshards for ALL your alliance zones (You can travel to friends and guild members in ANY upper zone).

DC has approx 69 mostly safe Skyshards for 23 skill points.
AD has approx 54 mostly safe Skyshards for 18 skill points.
EP has approx 50 mostly safe Skyshards for 16 Skill points.

Plus all the leveling you will do from Training and Exploration.

Now you have a permanent hand-me-down set to pass to any new character builds to zoom-level with.

That's before you even consider the later-game benefits of posters above.

Use multiples of the traits too. They stack.
