Champion System - Enlightenment

What are your thoughts about this Champion System concept ZOS is using to force some parity for players with limited time?
ZOS - Maria Aliprando (http://tamrielfoundry.com/2014/12/champion-system-details): The Champion System includes a new “Enlightenment System” which is a boost to the amount of experience you earn towards your Champion progression. This helps to prevent players from being penalized when they play lower level alts. This helps players to catch up more quickly if they go out of town for the weekend or something, Enlightenment ticks up while you are offline so that you can more quickly catch up on game-play time that you missed. Right now, Enlightenment is tuned to give a x4 boost to Champion XP gain while you have the buff.
ZOS - Eric Wrobel (http://tamrielfoundry.com/2014/12/champion-system-qa-pt1): I think that some people are going to want to play all day and get as many champion points as possible and that’s great, people should enjoy the game the way they want. In addition to that, we have an Enlightenment System where you can get a rank or two every day with enlightenment experience that lets you get things four times faster. So hardcore people will go faster, but this is a balancing mechanic to help players with fewer available gaming hours keep up with them.

I like thus idea. Mostly peolple can't play 24/7, but with this all these people will progress faster and can see result of playing. Also, I'm sure hardcore players will exploit this system a lot.

This will even benefit 'hardcore' players who don't play their alts as much. Everyone wins here.

It just works. And I like the fact you don't have to log out to start accruing enlightenment. So if you get distracted for an hour in town, you can go back out and catch up to the curve in less time.

Why should a player that has very little time get extra bonuses, which I'm one of those with very little time?

For example. I know that to get emp in PvP I've to earn more alliance points which on some campaigns requires that you either do not sleep or you sleep very little. Those who don't have to sleep, more power to them. I don't want any handouts.

I may be missing something though and trying to keep an open mind, but just having a difficult time understanding the something for nothing approach here.

I wouldn't consider it a hand out, I think it's just leveling the playing field for casual players.

If so, then I can certainly get behind this. Actually makes it more enjoyable knowing that through competitive play I can create distance again.

Rested bonuses is very common in MMO, 4x sounds a bit much 2x had made more sense.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Why would anyone care if some guy who works 60 hours a week to pay his bills and save for his kids' college fund is given a leg up for the 2 hours he has to play ESO?

Personally, I'm less concerned about what others get so much as I don't want an advantage over others who are able to play more just because I'm only able to play a few evenings each week (which is my situation). I don't expect or suspect that my position on this is popular. So I was very curious about and interested in the perspective of others on this topic (hence the poll).

I do like that ZOS tries to make this a game for a large spectrum, but it does seem to be pervasive enough in their decisions such that the more extreme players (or in my case obsessed) are catered to the least.

EDIT: There have been some great suggestions from others on a hard mode toggle that when used also resulted in greater reward. Once ZOS gets the fundamentals sorted, this may be a nice enhancement to cater to the extreme.

It benefits everybody besides the "plays 1 character only for hours a day" player, and even then they'll get a little experience just from sleeping.
