During the generic Q&A portion of today's ESO Live show. Essentially it is a complex issue which is still being investigated. The recent lowering of the population caps was intended to be a temporary fix.

Gina did mention that they were confident the lighting changes introduced in 1.3 were not contributing to the lag problems.

The discussion is brief and no new solutions were mentioned. It starts around the 19:20 mark.

ETA: Later in the show, Eric Wrobel mentioned that the AOE caps were contributing to the performance problems in Cyrodiil. The significant increase in the cap will hopefully help address the issue. That discussion begins at 51:40.

Some changes discussed in the Live may benefit the lag situation in PVP:
    - the change of AoE caps, causing people to spread more instead of stacking on top of each other
    - the end of ultimate charging while out of combat by spamming heals

It's very concerning that the comments on lag were essentially... "we don't know". I was really hoping to hear " we know the cause, but have not finalized a solution just yet"... sigh.

Surely by now they know this is the make/break for many of us hanging on still.

Yes I know... They know what contributes, that's the easiest part. I just wish the solution part was within our reach.

It makes me laugh that they believe that the AOE caps being changed will result in people spreading out. People spreading means that you're possible out of range of your group healer as well as the fact that people have been using this strategy since the beginning, did they still bunch up and zerg... yes.

If bunching up means dying to AoEs then yes, people will spread out. Adapt or die.

I can assure you, at the beginning no one was bunching up except to bomb people standing on flags...It wasn't until after they announced AOE caps Zergballs became a thing.

But back then, people didn't bunch up....because 2 DK's and a Sorc could wipe your entire zerg in seconds.

"We decided to lower the population caps to see if that helps..."

It didn't. The "fix" for botting implemented in late June/July started this mess. Remove that and see what happens.

Wrong. On release literally everyone believed that there was no aoe cap and that stacking would be suicide to siege/ults. Even after zOS announced that there was an aoe cap, ppl still didn't start stacking because they assumed a blob wouldn't out heal aoe bombing.

It wasn't until 2 groups tested blobing on the PTS and posted a vid showing the blob wiping mile gate defenders effortlessly, taking no dmg, that things changed. Then overnight all the organized guilds started adopting the cheesewheel. Those who didn't unsubbed and the pvp pop has been declining ever since.

A big part of the game is groups acting as one and turning/pulling instantly together.

I for one hate this and can't wait to see how the meta changes.

Seems like they want Cyrodiil to more of a giant brawl like on the loading screen these days.
