What ESO Classes Should Be. (The common sense, classical MMO approach)

Zeni could have alleviated soooo much whining and complaining and confusion if they did this one simple thing at launch:

Labeled each class with what its intended role is supposed to be.

When you think about it, and when you read each classes actual description in the character creation screen, it makes sense.

Example:

DK: Tank
Templar: Healer
Sorc: Magicka DPS
Nightblade: Stamina DPS

This whole "any class any role" thing has turned into a complete &$@*storm. The only real answer would be to open all skills to all classes, and remove classes entirely, or to clearly designate certain classes to fill certain roles.

If they did this, at least then they would have a clear answer to anyone saying "wah wah but I can't sneak around and heal and dps while being a heavy armor templar" because then they could just say:

"Well, did you read the class description? If you wanted a sneaky sneaky stab stab you should have made a nightblade. It's not our fault your reading comprehension is low"

What we have now is just a complete mess.

Totally approve of changing the name of Nightblade to SneakySneakyStabStab.

For every whiner there's a hundred of people who never come to the forum and happily play their DK dps, templar tanks and NB casters. So thanks, but no thanks.

Yeah, I don't understand this thread.

What we have right now is a system where every class can do every role. In fact, there's some very good builds that dont fit any of the stereotypes you just mentioned.

Nightblade healers, Nightblade tanks, Templar tanks, Sorcerer stamina DPS, Dragonknight magicka DPS. The list goes on.

yes add that any tank/ healing class also has to be able to do dps simply to level up.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    Ah no, please no!
If I want a game where there is "generic" classes, I've plenty of choice to pick from! The fact that you have no role attributed to a class is one of the thing so attractive in ESO!
So no , no and no. I'm totally and against this idea. I want to play a Sorcerer Tank, a Templar Caster and a Dk healer if I like!

I disagree OP. Instead of having yet another class = role MMO I'm happy with the path ZOS has went. I'd suggest playing FF XIV instead.

Adding to this, Spellcrafting will make "Classes" in ESO even more irrelevant, which is a good thing.

I have played an MMO that had the class=role system, and leveling up a healer was torture. It was doable, but not enjoyable for some roles.

I can't wait for spellcrafting. Breaking away from 'classes' even more will be great!

    Yes!!!!

@ZOS, please make this a title that's unlocked by maxing all skills in the NB Class trees!

World of Money Grabbing giving you nothing worth playing ... is that way --->

The current class setup is well and fine! If you want to play your own personal DK as a tank, you have that right; If you want to play your own personal Templar as a Healer, you have that right; If you want to play your own personal Sorc as magic base DPS, than so be it; If you want to play your Nightblade as stamina DPS, please be my guess. However, you do not have the right to demand a class system change that would prevent me and others from playing our class the way we want it. Thankfully ZMO does not agree with you, and have instead given us a system that allows us to play the way we want.

Some of you will say, NO YOU CAN'T, but I'm not apart of your iron-fist ruled by whomever guild doing trials and pvp. In other words, I don't care if you have bend your knee to someone else demands.

It is true that certain classes are more ideal for certain roles, but for all intents and purposes, ZOS made a system where no class is "supposed" to be anything. A player can be a healer DK or a tank NB just like Sorc can be either a DPS, healer or tank.

The classes are mere starting templates, not role definers.

While this is more preferable alternative to you other idea, it does not appear ZOS has any intention of changing their system. There are a few threads regarding the subject.

    No. Just no.

Not only are there methods to deal with your (presumed) dislike of certain players and their builds than telling them "well, you picked the wrong class", there are various in game mechanics that can be used to increase certain aspects of the various roles by way of passives, gear sets and skill allotment in order to help circumvent the shortcomings of the classes.

They in fact did. You might have missed it in your quest to fit a square peg in a round hole however. The short version is that, like other TES games, any class can fill any role.

This thread is a mess. Not the adherence to baseline TES principles. Frankly put, I couldn't disagree more with what you've stated in your OP.

My V2 Templar DPS begs to differ about the whole healing thing. I mean I can as a back up but my greatsword and Aedric Spear seem to like cleaving through the enemies.
