Why can't we research two different traits on the same type weapon?

Curious at what the reasoning is behind this?

I have two gloves that I wanted to research that have different traits, but I can only do 1 at a time even though I have 2 available slots that I can research in clothing. It's not the end of the world, but considering they are going to take a few days each it would have been nice to do them simultaneously.

    2 reasons:

    - Each trait researched increases the duration of the next research. Getting the 2nd trait will take twice as long as the first one, the third twice as long as the 2nd, etc. Researching traits simultaneously with that system would require counting the traits currently being researched to determine the duration of the one that you're about to start
    - It prevents players from completing all traits on an item too quickly and forces them to diversify a bit.

I've wondered this myself. Kinda like why you have to pay someone to repair your gear even though you made it yourself.

They don't want people "power researching". This was good at release because a player couldn't attain 8 trait sets a few weeks before everyone else by researching a different piece on each alt. It also helps increase the demand for dedicated crafters.

Good points, but they should have the ability to calculate the trait you are in the middle of researching, and adjust the timer on the 2nd trait from that same weapon type so it is in line.

Would be nice if they would allow us to do this, even if it means adding a time penalty for each additional trait you're researching simultaneously.

as for the reasons they made the research system how it is today is already mentioned. however, I dont think it should change so that you can research more than 1 trait pr item.

If you want max research on items you should have to go trough the whole process like everyone else and not have a shortcut ability just because you started the game or started crafting at a later point than game release.

Take the time and do the research like everyone else. I do all of mine on a single character. It takes 306 days to learn 8 traits on every type of armor and weapon on a single character. Add a couple or three more months on to that for all 9 traits.

Could I have greatly reduced the time by splitting it up between multiple characters? Yes. But then I wouldn't have one of the very few characters who can craft anything and everything and not have to log into 8 different characters just to craft a full set.

It would be nice to queue research, but I doubt that it will ever occur.

    This would be great, yes.
But I think it'd be too easy, especially for those who only login every few weeks or even months (resub), since during the time being unsubscribed, the research continues. This means, queue all needed items, come back months later, and you know 8 traits without even being in the game during that time.

I agree that they should not change research mechanics, simply because I like the current way.

I highly disagree with the argument used here.

"I am against simplifying ESO's research mechanics because I had to do it the hard way"

    ...is like

"I am against higher education being made accessible to everyone for free because I had to pay for mine."

    ...or

"I am against progress of any kind because I can't benefit from it as much as the younger generations."

I was under the impression that research progress paused while unsubscribed.

That's what I thought first, too. But a few months ago when I was unsubscribed just for a few days, the research was done as soon as I came back.

Glad to see I'm not alone doing it all on one character. :) Too bad I didn't pick a DK to do it on though :'( .
