Most efficient AP gains

Hey all, I'm looking for better ways to accumulate AP. I've played about 3 hours of PVP a day for about the last week and have only gained ~100k AP. I've seen people on the leaderboards hit 500k AP on the first day.

Most of my play has been either zerg-capping resources/keeps or in an endless zerg vs. zerg standoff at Alessia bridge, etc. Neither of which seem to give a staggering amount of AP.

What are some methods you guys use?

Also, is it true that you get more AP in a smaller group?

EDIT: I've been looking, but can anyone link me to a list of AP rewards? For example, capturing a keep is worth x, repairing a wall is worth x, etc.

Though these are very general, and by all means are not the only way, they will help improve your AP gains.

    1) Group with people who fit your play style.

    2) Aoe - Generally speaking, tag everyone and everything once.

    3) Kill more, die less. This will keep you from spending too much time on your horse.

    4) Defend objectives. Be sure to stick around for defense ticks.

    5) React quickly to be near the action. Things flag and un-flag quickly

Following these very general guidelines will improve your AP gains.
    Here since Beta.

Characters: All of them, both Stamina and Magicka.

I've read lots of comments that refer to these mysterious "defense ticks" - how do they work exactly? Do you get some AP if you kill an enemy while in your own keep?

Defensive tick is awarded upon successful defense of a keep, outpost or resource. The 'tick' is all the AP of all killed players thrown together and split among all the defenders present at the keep.

Offensive tick is rewarded upon successful capture of a keep, outpost or resource and works the same way. All of the AP from killed players is thrown together and split among all the attackers present at the moment of capture.

I think capping a keep and defending a keep are variable rewards depending on who and how many are killed in the process. Wall repairs are dependent upon how much you heal the wall. 3000 (templar, healy staff) nets 29 AP reward each time. A little less on my other characters b/c they heal less. Killing an opponent nets a reward of anywhere between 1 and 1000 AP depending on how much damage you do to them and how much you individually participated in killing them. There is probably a hard formula for that, but I have no idea how it works. You get no AP for attacking walls or using sieges (unless it kills a player). Defense ticks are not anywhere near as large as they were in the age of forward camps and are usually fairly minimal now.

As far as fast ways to gain AP... a zerg group/farming is probably your best bet since it will net the largest amount of player kills in the shortest period of time. They are also exceedingly boring and frowned upon by all alliances. Despite their success, they do very little to further their own faction. Healing used to be a great source but it isn't as good now. You will get AP as a result of your healed target killing somebody, but it is far less than they get for killing the target. However, you can participate in healing 20-30 people at a time easily, so it is probably fair on the larger scale. Use caltrops and other large AOE abilities (war horn, barrier, caltrops) for the best results. Some AOE can be targeted from a defensive position which makes them especially useful (caltrops, arrow barrage, lightning flood).

What do people buy from AP lately.

I have around 3 million AP right now.

I always have siege weapons with me so i always siege
    I always repair walls

I buy empty soulgems with gold (121 per piece) and fill them during PvP with the souls of out enemies and use them to rez.

So i am not hoarding and save keep them. but since camps are gone the AP goes up if i PvP enough.

So what do you buy with it?

There's a few sets VERY popular for PvE sold at the Elite Vendor, epic Jewelry at least. I see those sold for 20-100K on Guild Kiosks, so that might be something you can do with your AP. Shadow Walker Rings/Bands come to mind. Cyrodiil Light (Rings) also are popular for their 2-set.

Never stay in the same place for more than 10-20 minutes, even when the killing is good.

Diminishing returns on the same kills over and over will net you much less AP than spanking a fresh set of noobs every half hour or so.

    1. people that hit 500K on the first day probably played for10 hours or more. while 60k+++ AP per hour are possible during primetime, this is (in my experience) very hard to keep up if there are no enemies or you're just unlucky with encounters. I don't think i ever made 500k on a signle day, but I dont play for 10hours. Extrapolating AP per hour, I think it should be doable (of course only when playing with awesome guys and girls from my guild that do most of the work ;-) )

    2. it is much easier to make AP in a group. People will talk about AoE caps, Forward camps etc as main reasons for "skillless AoE blobs", but if you ask me, AP rewards are totally broken. The bigger your group, the less AP you get per kill but the difference is so small, it's stupid. 4players will get around 350AP per fresh kill each, whereas 20players still get around 230 or something. Apart from that, AP are gained whenever someone heals a target that has a) life missing and b) is somehow ready to give AP, i think this is usually the case if the healed target made AP shortly before. If you capture a resource without defenders in a group of two, you'll end up with FAR less than 500AP, whereas a big group rolling over it (and being sloppy enough to lose HP) will get 1000+ for the same thing, just because of the healing.
In conclusion, if you want many AP, you're somewhat forced to group. Accomplishing something solo or in very small groups is not rewarded adequatly.

    3. If you make 500k on a day, you're most probably either very experienced yourself or play with a group with several experienced players. Those groups will kill enemy groups 5 times as big as them on a regular basis and something get them in a lucky spot and wipe groups 10 times as big. This has a lot to do with proper coordination, especially of ultimates and synergies - and a bit with having the correct build and being alliance rank 24+ because the assault passive is so damn good. There are (short) fights where i can drop 5 novas (277 currently, normally a bit more, i think). Main DKs and sorcs are dropping significantly more banners and negates.

    4. It is much easier if you have a group to "build an AP farm". This doesn't have to be bridge / tower camping. If you can read the map, you can go to several places, attack something and you are very likely to provoke a reaction in form of a stream of uncorrdinated noobs trying to kill you. Those are easy AP. Even more so, if you took a keep or something, and get the defensive tick. All in all, i think defticks account for about 15 to 30% of the AP I make on a day

Thanks. I need to make more money. I might just do that. I think i have the average amount of money most players have. I have around 450k just from doing quests and PvP. Never sold anything in my TES_life. Even i destroyed all loot and reward armors for crafting.

Everyone covered a lot of great stuff here. But one I like to use from time to time if I dont have a group is I will hang out at our around a resource I know a group will come for, and wait for them to engage the guards then bomb them.

This has 2 outcomes that can be awesome

    1. solo kills with guards that result in you dying, still getting atleast a couple hundred AP per kill.
    2. You wipe said group, and collect a massive defense tick. If you get lucky and get say 10 players, you collect a MASSIVE defense tick.

Confirm for truth. Ive gotten over 40k AP solo in five minutes on one lucky bomb (with my templar of all toons, the one that is not really specced for massive AOE damage like the NB or DK are) at Alessia Mine before. Resource drained on the flag, a whole group of 15-20. All the AP for the kills + the D tick. Too bad you cant make that happen a dozen times a night consistently =/

Best way to Farm AP is to join EP or AD and meet The Farmed Legion on the field!

They are DC's premier guild at giving away AP to our enemies, there are reports they actually work with enemies....because there should not be an actual guild that is so bad they help the other Factions and screw DC over and over again!

TFL for AD and EP wins!
