I logged into my old character and I had to pick my skills again. I don't remember what I had picked before but I do remember feeling good with what I had. But I just couldn't remember.

So I decided to roll a new character. All the guilds I'm in are empty and the game feels very dead. Chat is quiet and there's almost no players running about. Is everyone in the veteran zones then? If so, please tell me because I don't want to invest time in a game that has no future.

Not trying to troll here, I just don't have THAT much time for videogames so... How alive is this game? any recent statistics please?

The lower level zones are actually very active. There are people everywhere level 1-50.
Level 50+ is thin, but its always been that way because there are just so many places for them to be spread out. That and people are goofing around with alts until the champion system.

just drop those guilds and look for new ones. There are plenty of active guilds around, both PVE and Trade guilds.

I'm not sure how accurate the source was, but last I heard this game was up to around 1 million subscribers and still growing. There is definitely still a large community of active players and guilds, but most of them are in the end game content at this point.

No recent statistics but I also resubbed recently, I left old guilds and just found new ones. I actually thing there is an upswing in population, I am seeing a lot of resub chat in reddit/forums/ in game.

Were you by any chance playing on PTS instead of NA or EU?

On the NA server, it is unlikely that anyone could create a new character and find Daggerfall, Devon's Watch, or Vulkhel Guard empty. The banks will always be busy. That is where the mule players spend all their time in the game.

Are you sure you aren't playing on the PTS and not the NA or EU servers? PTS is usually dead.

If you aren't playing on PTS then that actually is very odd. Both servers in the lower levels have a very active community.

I started a new alt just the other day in Davons Watch and the place was totally packed so I cannot see how you found it empty. Maybe if you were playing at 4AM on a weeknight or some strange time. I also found people spamming their guilds constantly so it shouldn't take more than an hour to find 5 new guilds to join. In my experience 90% of guilds die. Only ones with very strong and dedicated leaders seem to hang in there in the long term.

The "quiet chat" is because the gold farmers and spammers have been taken care of.

Rawl'Kha in Reapers March for AD is almost always busy with people, the only time it gets slow with less people (as in, I can see Punula in the Bank) is in the Wee hours of the night, 4:30am or later eastern time, I know this because I'm usually still there

This would have been an excellent opportunity to look up a good build for the class you were playing and having a free respec.
The game is great and there is a chance to learn something new and make new friends every day

Welcome back. On the NA server I find people everywhere pre-vet. A zone chat request for help brings players fast. Items placed for sale are gone within a day. Guilmates are always on.

My vet gets a little lonely at times.

I started the game for the first time a few days ago and I find there are a few players around in the beginner's zone and people advertising guilds as well. It's not absolutely packed but I see people wondering around and near crafting stations etc.
