Blackfeather court whistle - any point in keeping?

Is there any real point in keeping the Blackfeather Court whistle (the horn you get as a reward for the main Crow's Wood quest)? Or is it best just dumped at the nearest merchant to save inventory space?

if you use it after you kill something crows feast on the corpse, its just a fun little gimmick thing, i throw my trophies on a mule

It doesn't seem to work for me. It just makes a "click" sound when I use it. Does it only work on certain corpses (e.g. humanoid? Or bats, given that those were what you feasted on in the Crow's Wood?)

Actually, I've figured it out... some bodies are targetable. When you look at them, they show a name and an empty health bar. You can use the whistle on them when you're close enough.
