Would a daily map reset help restore some PVP morale?

I'm just tossing out this idea to see what people think.

Would a daily map reset that assigns all keeps and scrolls back to their default owners help restore some morale in Cyrodiil? Let's say at 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM EST everyday, everything reverts back to their original alliance. People logging in at prime time would start with the default map, regardless if they owned everything or nothing a few minutes before the reset.

While some people truly enjoy playing as underdogs, it seems far more people do not and this change could help alleviate that problem. It would also impede one faction from running up the score for days on end via a stagnant map. It might also generate some interesting fights if players are inside an enemy's keep at reset time and they either have to fight or flee.

Could this work? Or would it cause other problems such as a faction logging in en masse at reset time to sweep the map in an hour or so? Would it kill PVP in the hours before a reset as people would think their efforts are being wasted?

I'm just trying to come up with alternatives that might breathe some life into the soon-to-be corpse of PVP on the NA server.

No, and I don't need to read your wall of text to tell you that morale would greatly improve when zos fixes the lag.

ZOS obviously does not know how to fix the lag but I would think even the ZOS devs are capable of writing a script that resets the map. Anything that reduces the instances of two or more factions converging in full at a single keep or scroll would help reduce occurrences of lag.

Yes, it is only a band-aid fix (if that) for the lag but this change is more about morale among the rank and file who see a map all of one color and then promptly leave Cyrodiil, lag or no lag.

I don't think daily resets are the answer. A faction that can hold their ground against opposition should be entitled to. And Why bother rallying your faction and pushing to get your scrolls/keeps back if you know they will be handed to you in a few hours?

The key to my statement is "against opposition",I don't think any faction should be able to pvdoor the entire map, or steamroll their opponents by outnumbering them 3:1. I support dynamic pop limits, and resetting the map and scrolls at campaign end.

For an alliance such as DC, yes a reset option would probably help a lot.
If you read DC zone chat you will always see things like "it's pointless" and "why bother, they outnumber us far too much". This probably would not be a very popular option for some of the guilds however, especially on opposing factions.

I think I would be less inclined to fight each day if there was a reset.

Night capping is annoying for everyone but it means there is content to be had the next day. Also with the resets at evening time as you say then the night caps would still provide the bonus they're getting now, capture everything at 2am, wait until 12pm when enough people are online to take it back again.

If you were to have the resets in the early AM though then factions could just wait until after the reset and the capture everything still making the reset void.

No. it would make it pointless to play blackwater blade and any other campaign under 14 day duration.

what needs changing/fixing is the lag. The lag is the sole reason many people are quitting PvP. imbalanced/OP builds can be dealt with by the players. Pathetic buff servers/ buff server defenders can be dealt with by the players(as Hedarus showed) but the one thing players cant deal with is the horrendus lag, and its tearing PvP apart.

The lag is what is driving people away.

3 or 4 days ago AD and DC came out of their box, and rolled EP back to their scroll gates. I guess the box was too big so they found a smaller box to go back into.

They have the players, they just need to decide to play. AD has more players than EP, and while DC doesn't, DC is pretty much just AD's little brother on US Thornblade.

I played for Thornblade EU until the start of this month's campaign. I haven't really played since.

I've been playing this game since Beta but much more slowly than many. I really enjoyed all the questing and range and depth of areas. I didn't start pvp-ing seriously until 3 months ago. That experience was the best computer game combat I've played and hooked me in completely, lag and balance issues notwithstanding. And I'm not even that good a fighter!

Nonetheless, pvp was the reason I played every day. I loved the meta-game: the reason for fighting Here and not There; the reason why your faction's image with the other factions mattered; the reason why you needed to get guilds in your faction working together not hating; why the senior players had to set a good example for the others - it was a whole game in itself that reflected like no other I have seen the chllenges of real life coalition warfare.

In short, why General Marshall claimed that the greatest and most difficult achievement of Allied High Command in WW2 was the maintenance of Allied unity of purpose.

November's low population bonus killed that dead. All of it. The lot. Until the low population mechanism is radically altered or removed I can't see myself pvp-ing again.

Really? Just what campaign you talk about? There are campaigns like Haderus where EP has much less than AD. EP seem to have more on Thornblade. Read other threads for info!

Taking an example from Lotro where some objectives reset and some could be taken as far you can hold on them. Outposts reset. Keeps didn´t reset until at a very last stages I played it. Then there were enemy "relics" that didn´t reset. Maybe they can try something similar or just do what they have planned in the first place.

The ongoing talk of low morales is a serious problem. While there is lag you can´t say having to take home keeps every day is fun. With due respect and some might not agree, but EP isn´t quite so strong they deserve every keep and scroll daily. If they have them there is something wrong in game mechanics. Of course, this can be turned around as a positive thing. At least, there is something to be done and you can kick some reds to the fire pits of Molag Bal at the same time.

Daily reset would discourage me. I want the map to reset after the campaign ends. As a DC player there have been countless times i've came on where we have literally had 1 keep and no scrolls, but a daily reset would more than likely make me see the situation quit until the next day knowing all of ours keeps would be back.

As others have said, fix the lag and sound issues that would restore my morale.

What I suggested several months back is to actually have serves open from 2am till 2pm then others open 2pm till 2am...This would help with Night capping plus allow them to do daily maintenance on those servers off line.

Plus it would go a long way to spreading all the players around and make the existing servers more competitive and push populations past 1 bar on said servers.

And it would get more Raid Pve players to become Raid Pvp players o re earn those buffs....But seriously Zenimax...scrap those buffs its really been abused for wrong reasons

The OP has identified a design flaw that needs fixing. As long as nightcapping exists, every server is at risk of becoming a monochrome/buff server. Seems some only woke up to this reality when TB was painted red. Well better late than never.

Basic dynamics is that if a map gets painted monochrome for a couple of nights, even if the other factions take it back during the day, they'll eventually start showing in smaller and smaller numbers until the server is dead.

A daily reset may not be the answer, but let's not deny there's a problem that needs fixing (other than lag).
Please stop making requests for game features. ZOS have enough bad ideas as it is!

This will be a big a problem for people. I can see it now, "guys guys guys its 5:50 lets go tuck into the corner of fare (which we own) while x guild flags blood right at 6:01". I promise you when it resets it will be flagged so fast it will be like the reset never happened, leaving just the scroll.

this is not being questioned. A daily reset is just not the naswer.

now, for a huge campaign like thornblade, yes. it would not be that big of a deal(its a 30 day campaign) however, for small campaigns like blackwater blade that dont even last at least 2 weeks, it would make the campaign utterly pointless to play.

Why bother to play a 30-day campaign if the map resets every single day? Might as well make it single-day campaigns then.
