[News] Population cap has been reduced again

Since I'm not sure how many ppl actually check the official announcements forum, in case you didn't know the pop cap has been reduced once more about an hour ago.
During our investigations into the problem, we have discovered a decrease in performance if the population of a campaign passes a certain threshold. In order to address this, we are going to decrease the campaign population cap below that threshold.
Yeah, no. Still nothing to address the performance degradation from the lighting patch, particle culling patch, and most recent sound culling patch.

    One of the main problems is the "botting" fix they implemented in July, a big drop in fps after that...

    Even with 1 bar across the board, if a big portion of the population is in one spot clustered up, the ENTIRE server will lag.

    Lowering the pop cap decreases the chance of this happening, but I doubt its the best solution.

    Now instead, we get to all enjoy hour long ques during the week, and god knows how long on weekends. Simple don't think there's enough pvp'rs left to fill up 2 campaigns even with this reduced cap.

    Personally i would rather see even lower population caps... but before you all jump on me, hear me out.

    1.Wiith lower pop caps each players skill level makes more of a difference. Helping close the gap between skill and sheer numbers.

    2.It may (i use the term may due to pop imbalance) encourage PvP on more than 1 server.

    3.It also may help break up the zergs that cause bad lag, for instance if one faction is fielding 3-4 different groups hitting different things it would force zergs to break up or lose ground until only a few objectives remain.

    I do agree that mass PvP was promised but the reality is that for one reason or another they can't seem to make it work. I would rather see the quality of PvP improve rather than beat a dead horse again and again trying to make it work without sucess.

    I have no desire to sit in queue after 10+ hours of work. I'll just play something else.

    This will definately be a problem until faction pops balance out or ZoS gets off thier butts and allows faction transfers. Which i dont understand why they dont considering there could be a small profit to be made off of it

    TBH have they ever just tried limiting north American IPs to NA servers and Euros/Oceanic on the Euro server? sure that would help

    Icky.. no.. I like that people in different time zones can log in a AVA at my odd hours when US players are either sleeping or at work.

    Personally, I have constantly wondered since setting foot in Cyrodiil if the pop cap really included all three factions, because one faction always seems to have overwhelming numbers, while the others barely have anyone on. It almost feels like they dont have the individual alliances capped and the cap does not kick in until after the total pop cap is reached.
    Power level to CP160 in a week:
    Where is the end game? You just played it.
    Why don't I have 300+ skill points? Because you skipped content along the way.
    Where is new content? Sigh.

    From what I've heard, Oceanic / Asian players get better pings on the NA servers than on European.

    We had a TON of new AD and DC on Haderus tonight. Several battles across the map and it wasn't LoM or No Mercy from what I was told. Still, only about 15 EP total and AD numbers grew even more.

    If you are EP and stuck in an hour long queue on Thornblade, come to Haderus and say something in zone. EP there can use your help while you wait for the queue.

    NM is for the most part playing other games, or just logging on for undaunted dailies.

    Glad to hear from ya. After I left this thread, i started thinking... Maybe they are trying to force people into other campaigns from Thornblade.

    The ping did seem better tonight and the pop cap reduction benefited dc as we actually had similar numbers for once. Of course if I was ep and stuck in a long queue I wouldn't be very happy. Maybe this will encourage play on other servers for the larger factions, time will tell.

    Agreed its like a silent acknowledgment that they give up trying to fix it. But thats a huge step for ZoS in my eyes. Sucking it up and actually make a change for the better.

    good enough solution until a more sustainable one is found. now, penalize spammers. If batswarm, impulse or healing springs are spammed kick to login. or....increase cooldown times. easy fixes.

    Yes penalize people for just using the skills as intended. Makes total sense.

    The fewer you are, the easier you'll be to be disposed of. We're going to see a PvE Cyrodiil way before the lag has gone. Taking a good look at the console version ads might give a clue, if PvP's gonna make it on the feature list at all.

    I highly doubt we will see such a PvP focused trailer again and even now PvE features are much higher in priority than the Imperial City, for instance. But with yet again reduced caps, Cy ain't more than a laggified battleground anyways.

    We know it's dead, they know it's dead, but who's got the will to revive? It's kinda sad, I really thought I'd set foot into it eventually, after they sorted it all out, but it seems their solution's going to be rather drastic

    OTOH, when you take another good look at the PvE and PvP experience and numbers of people participating in it, it's understandable and the shift in focus very much needed. You've got to concentrate on the positives of your product, if you wish to sell it, after all.

    So let's be glad you're lucky enough to be still on life support, instead! :smiley:
