Idk how to fix 4-5am map capping, but I do know this should not be possible, and that it needs to be fixed.

Make keeps take significantly more time to take (doesn't necessarily have to be increased HP or anything, could be like scrolls in that X Y Z must be achieved before you can siege the keep) so that temporary population imbalances don't cause huge changes to the landscape.

I sort of agree, but its the price we pay for a 24/7 war. Can't have a separate server for hard cores, shift workers and different time zones even if we wanted to because we don't have the pop. A viable solution escapes me at this time short of upping sub numbers and balancing factions.

orrrrr they could introduced closed world already =)

I know it doesn't make much difference but I believe most of this occurred well before 4-5am. EP claimed emperor just before midnight EST as the faction was still pop locked with a queue of at least 10. AD and DC were both two bars at the time.

I hope my faction (EP) doesn't play too aggressively today as the last thing the NA campaigns needs is for both AD and DC to be discouraged and demoralized.

Agreed. There is no reason logically it should, and it just gives an incentive for a last minute night capping frenzy twice a week.

Third shift map capping was perfectly okay as long as it was your alliance doing so?

I'm just going to assume this is TB and you didn't choose EP's buff campaign. In which case it means you actually have an opportunity to reclaim keeps and steal scrolls back, wait you mean this allows for actual PvP action!?

On second thought we should just shut down the servers when you aren't playing yourself, that's a nice solution.

I suppose we need to "punish" Red with a Green Alliance, as AD was "punished" by Purple when purportedly committing the same sin, and then not so egregiously as this, IIRC. (I mean EVERY keep/resource/scroll, except one keep and its resources? Wow!)

It's too late, people have already started packing their bags from DC. If people don't wake the *** up and stop this BS already there will be no PvP for anyone.

So you're aware Tintinabula, the guys who used to coordinate the AD night capping are now doing it for EP, so no, not karma it's the same people. Only now your working with them... One in particular shall remain Anonymous.

In all seriousness, I pretty much stopped playing when they came over. However, you can't deny that while they were on AD side..Aldemeri Dominion benefited from that craptastic tactic all too often..so yes.."Karma"

I fully expect them to tire of EP and move to DC in the near future. So , I'm sure EP will be privileged to experience that again..(via them ;) )

I might just have fallen off the wagon, but who cares?
Go to Cyrodiil, take keeps, log out - repeat.
Sometimes it's red, blue or yellow, does it matter?
Except of course if you were red and hoping to take some keeps...

Personally I can't really blame EP, or any faction really for trying to get any advantage. That's the name of the game, you give a system to the players and they will find the best way to game it and maximize their experience. Every faction has dominance from one time or another, this sort of thing is cyclical.

That said, there could be a solution out their for the devs to bring about that encourages and rewards a more balanced play experience for all. I don't think stopping one faction from playing at a particular time is the answer though.

The real issue isnt nightcapping, its that score ticks during the downtime so that nightcapping can get you several hours of bonus points.

When nightcaps happen during normal operations, they are swiftly punished by a 2v1, usually for a few days, and are not very profitable if at all.

When people get 4 hours of free 400 point ticks in the campaign, nightcapping is a huge problem.

The campaign should assign no points any time it attempts to assess the score and finds zero players logged in in Cyrodiil.

When the number of campaigns were reduced to their current number back with 1.3, Thornblade replaced Wabbajack as the primary competitive campaign where all three factions would aggressively fight and pop lock. The other campaigns (excluding Blackwater Blade) are primarily but not exclusively dominated by one alliance. A different alliance may briefly take over one of those campaigns but they revert back to one faction dominance eventually. Not so on Thorn NA which is the only NA campaign that regularly locks.

For the first couple of iterations, AD and their 24/7 pop that was always either 3 bars or locked would nightcap the map while the other populations were understaffed. DC would then commonly daycap the map to erase AD's gains. EP would reclaim all of their real estate during prime time and maybe grab another keep or two.

A couple of iterations ago as populations started to dwindle, the DC daycapping largely stopped but the AD nightcapping continued more often than not. It was common to see DC and EP going after AD as a payback for the nightcapping.

Starting with last month's campaign, EP's pop seemed to stabilize or at least not suffer the same losses as either AD or DC. The AD nightcapping slowed but it would still happen, especially prior to announced maintenance windows and campaign resets. AD went from being the dominant alliance from a population standpoint to being neck and neck with EP as far as population numbers are concerned.

Now EP seems to be the clear leader in pop numbers, although AD will sometimes exceed EP's numbers for a few hours each day. EP has crowned more emperors in the past week than it has in the entire duration of some campaigns. Anyway, as east coast US prime time was ending last night, EP remained pop locked while AD and DC started losing numbers. EP ran the map - possibly for the very first time ever on Thorn. If it happened previously, I am not aware of it.

I don't think this happened because of this morning's maintenance. I logged off a few minutes after we crowned a new emperor but we had already lost Ash at that time. I cannot say with certainty that the maintenance was the reason, though. The locked pop probably simply continued taking real estate and scrolls. Basically, last night EP became the evil faction doing the one thing we hated the most when AD (and sometimes DC) did it.

I welcome any Thorn NA players to add more details or provide any corrections to my summation of Thorn's history and present day.

This is quite accurate. I'll also add that DC numbers are quite low these days and several groups spent Sat/Sun on Haderus.

I can't agree with this. DC pop locks everynight. Lower than EP and AD, yes. Not low though.
