You can best judge the game by playing it. If one doesn't like it he leaves quitely. Popularity is not measured by some score in a voting contest, but by the active subscriber count numbers.

That said, the combat sucks, the raids suck, the itemization sucks, it's essentially Pay to Win, there's no story, and what voice overs there are are in Korean.
Archeage is fun... ESO is better and also over a year younger. Archeage was released in Korea in jan of 2013.

You have a point here.
But even though WoW is a game with the most subscriber count number (70% in the East and 30% in the West), they are not doing that great in the West. I'm sure games like Guild Wars 2 should be pretty close to WoW in the West.
Also this voting contest will eliminate the most hated games, so it's not really rigged.

Not that great in the West? Really? There is not an MMO on this planet, that even comes close to WoW's subscriber base. Non of them even come close to playing in the same ball park. But yeah, a website of a few hundred voters is certainly accurate.
I'm not a huge fan of WoW, but I still respect it, and Blizzard.

You can get good gear without doing insane grinds. Granted, I love my warlock rings (good luck getting them now) but you don't need, some say they're actually over rated.

I hope they keep it that way. I see on the forums people asking for better endgame gear as reward. I hope endgame PvE rewards won't be better then PvP gear or crafted sets.

The only thing that make WoW the most popular, successful MMO is the fact that when it come back in 2004 the was not many mmo out there and also at the sametime in most country ADSL come out at same which make it really cheap to be on internet 24/7 and it was fast as well no more 56K modem.
If ESO or any other off know mmo we have today would have come back then that mmo would be most popular, successful MMO so i have to say that Blizzard just was very very lucky that the was at right place at right time with WOW

Do you have a source for those percentages? I was curious enough to look but never stumbled on hard numbers.
