Playing the Lute/Flute in Cyrodiil = Don't attack

Just thought I'd put this out there.

How about something that the more seasoned players take on as good sportsmanship, or spirit of competition. When you see an opposing player standing in a field somewhere in Cyrodiil playing the Lute/Flute you bypass them, leave them be and don't attack.

Sorta like an AFK thing where only the scumbags would take the cheap shot of attacking someone AFK.

I'm not saying you leave 20 people along that are all playing the Lute, or if someone is in your Keep while it's being attacked, or they are behind an enemy gate. Then by all means, kill kill kill!

I know there are players out there that won't attack an opposing player if they don't respond with attacking or defending themselves, and I for one think that's great. I think it shows who are the truly great players and who aren't.

Thoughts? (And No, I'm not having a care bear moment. I still hate you all  )
Been here since Feb 2014 - You'd think I'd be half reasonable at this game by now...

Wrong, you are merely half right! Playing /lute in Cyrodiil is the officially sanctioned method of praying to Dee Tick. Dee Tick cares not for /flute, you may freely attack any /flutists.

Wait don't we have stealth for when you want to afk? If you are silly enough to stand there in an open field without hitting ctrl slightly off the main path then you deserve to be afk killed.

That's what I do, also combined with /sit5 or /playdead so that if anyone found me they might realise I was AFK.

If you bypass them, then they are behind enemy lines when they return. A prime opportunity to use the remaining forward camps and ninja a keep or get your group flanked. Not a good idea to leave people alive unless you're duelling (which is understandable, you don't just attack everyone) or having a friendly moment with another player/friend from another alliance.

I fail to see the difficulty in bypassing "enemy lines". There is no line of sight between two keeps and since the area in between is usually deserted anyways, you can even brazenly ride through and be successful 11 out of 10 times. So what's different if you gank an afk player or not?

You can't be serious OP... If you want to run to the bathroom find a corner to hide in. If you are going to be gone for an extended amount of time then logout. But if I catch you playing a lute, flute, or even a theremin in an open field and you are not my faction, I'm going to send an arrow right for your head.

I don't like this idea. If you're an enemy, and my job is to keep my territory, I won't let a spy in front lines like this, and I certainly won't let you sit there and lute happily giving your friends information. Its a nice sentiment, and it might make sense for 1v1 tournaments, but beyond that I'm afraid this isn't an idea anyone can really honor.

Some of you are getting this all wrong, of course you can go hide in stealth blah blah blah. And sure, we did use one of our players as bait, she'd strip down to her underderps and play the lute. We'd all stealth in behind her and wait. Wouldn't take to long for someone to try and take the opportunity to slay her.
Never ended well for the ganker :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: This was months and months ago. I understand all this, I've seen all of this and more.

But then on the flipside I've been attacked while AFK by what I'd call decent player, I've not retaliated because I was away and the attacker has stopped, probably knowing that it's a cheap kill. The player that did that by the way was mimichanx, props mate! I couldn't care less if someone killed me while AFK, moreso impressed that a wasn't.

Understand the issue with spying and all that sort of thing, and you'd be stupid to do it inside someones gate, or right near a battle etc.But there would be times you could do it. Your fighting with your guild another decent guild, all good players. Yeah, you could AFK and go hide somewhere, but wouldn't be good to AFK while fluting? This one time, at band camp I stuck a....

For the most part I'm talking about the the experienced players, the ones that are good players, that don't take cheap shots. Have a metric tonne of AP and wouldn't get any satisfaction out of killing someone AFK.

Still this thread has made for an amusing read. It's also got me wondering how many Lute players does it take to crash the server?

Hitting someone who is defenseless doesn't make me a bad player. It makes me an opportunist. While you may not agree that it's ethical, it's certainly not an indicator of skill.
