Changing OS. Can I use digital downloads for mmo's I already have the discs for?

So I'm upgrading my OS and was wondering if I can use digital downloads for games (mostly mmo's) I already have the hard discs for? Would like to avoid as many endless updates as possible! Thanks!

Yes. It's what I do. I have the discs for ESO but when I reinstalled I used the digital downloader. No issue.

Depends on the MMO. Most typically allow for it though. Usually all it takes is downloading their installer, entering the game key that came with your physical copy, and off it goes.

I normally only use the digital downloads as it should automatically download the latest version or close to the latest version, so it does not require any updates after the installation.
If you use the disks, you install the version that is on the disc, mostly the original 1.x version. Which requires you to download a ton of updates after the installation is completed from the disk. So... that takes a lot longer.

MMOs should be no issue since your Key is linked to your account which can access the game through any client. It could pose problems for some solo games but then again, you only have minor patches for those instead of the 6gb updates you get for MMOs

    That's my goal! Thx all
