How would you like to improve inventory?

I wanted to get some thoughts from everyone on how THEY would improve the inventory in ESO. Do you think it needs work? Do you think it's good the way it is?

I really think The inventory system would greatly benefit from a few tweaks and additional options. Firstly, when viewing ALL, the bag space should reflect the total available space in the bag. If the size of the bag reflects the current bag capacity, a bag with 100 available slots containing 60 items would have 40 empty slots.

Additionally, players should be allowed to arrange their inventory how they see fit. By dragging and dropping inventory items the inventory should be able to be rearranged within each category.

The empty space when viewing ALL would allow the player to re-arrange their inventory in groups that could be separated by spaces, if the player so desires. The other inventory views (Weapon, Apparel, consumable, etc…) should also be able to be arranged in whatever way we see fit but should not have blank spaces.

Players should be able to click the various sorting options (Name, Value, etc.) and then recall their arranged inventory using a little “arranged” icon next to the “NEW” icon in the inventory screen. When in the arranged view, clicking NEW should rearrange the inventory by name and pull all the inventory to the top removing any spaces. This NEW should have a prompt “Rearrange?” to give the player the option to back out in case NEW was accidentally clicked. This NEW function would allow the player the option to reorganize their inventory without having to shuffle all the empty space.

Also, it would be very helpful if players had the option to view their inventory as a grid with 5 columns. This grid would maintain all the qualities of the above mentioned list inventory (blank space in bag represented with a blank space in the ALL view of the inventory and the ability to arrange the inventory). While in grid view, players would see an icon of their item and mousing over that item will bring up the little pop-up with additional information, the same way it works in list now.
These changes should also be implemented in the bank and stackable items should auto-stack in both the bag and the bank.

I stress that this view change should be a choice. Players should be able to switch between views with ease and the bags should not reorganize or reset when the player switches their inventory view from list to grid. Having this option to organize bag space and the ability to see it in a grid view will make many players quite happy and would alleviate some (just some) of the bag space woes.

I realize much of this is available with add-ons but I am of the belief that certain features, such as these, should be standard.

Thoughts?

My only bugbear with inventory is I can't sort it out by my criteria, Sometimes I want my mats sorted out by craft not by alphabetical order. Some times I want my armour sorted out by type not name, same for weapons.

I would also like the option of seperating my Inventory stock from my bank stock when deconstructing too, but that's a seperate issue.

Yes, I know you covered it, I was just saying that it's my only issue.

I'm very easy to please in this regard, and I know your suggestion is aimed at a much broader audience than me. And this should make a lot of people happy, if ZOS listens.

Ok, what I want for mats is as I said to be able to sort them out by craft, so all my wood is together (raw then polished followed by tempers for preference), likewise with my metals (ore then ingots then tempers), and my Fabrics (raw fibres, fabrics, then raw leather and refined leather, then the tempers used on them.), then the trait stones and racial stones.

Likewise I want so have all my food items together (a bit trickier given how recipes work, but even just in alphabetical order but seperate from the rest would be an improvement), my Alchemy ingredients together too (Reagents first then solvents is my pref, but other way rounds works to), and then my runes sorted into Aspect, Potency and Essence.

The order isn't what's important, it's that I can look at my mats in a manner that makes it easier to see if I have enough of a material on me (or in the bank when you put the pointer over it), especially if I'm planning on crafting gear for an alt.

As it is at the minute it's a total mess, you have food ingredients mixed in with alchemy mats, and the tempers in there too. It's hard to keep track of your stock without writing it out on seperate sheets.

Likewise with gear and weapons, it would be handy to organise them into Light Armour, then Medium, then Heavy, and maybe into Torso, head, shoulders, hands, belts, trousers and boots, so you can see what you have together.
(weapons would be by type ie sword, mace/hammer/axe/Bow/Greatsword/destro staff/etc)

Number of times I've gone through my inventory seeing what I can get rid of, only to miss that I have say two light armour hats with the same trait (and I only need one because alts have already researched it). Materials are less important to me than type and trait, and I can sort through the traits in my head if they are all together.

That's my thoughts, hope they help.

Havent read other thoughts yet if this is mentioned, but:

An own personal inventory category that you can rename, and before looting items, you will have the option to press "x" to store in that category.

Better sorting options would be a good start. It's frequently a challenge when I'm looking for one specific item that I know is there but can't find.

More space for less gold would be nice. a bank for each character instead of account or instead a different bank for crafting materials. I like to craft and my bank is just mats, very frustrating.
the ability to sort by armor types would be nice. and of course by weapon type.

I want to be able to flag items in inventory as "Keep" or "Important". I have two sets of armor I carry (one for DPS, one for tanking) and I hate going to sell and decon because I have to spend a lot of time looking through the list. Flagging the items would prevent them from showing up in show windows or for deconning.

I would love a "lock item" Feature inside of inventory and bank.
Locked items cannot be sold, destroyed or deconstructed by accident.

OK selling the wrong item is not a drama in ESO, like in other games.
But destroying, deconstructing it by accident... that happens fast when you have a lot stuff stored for research.

How to improve inventory? Just look at what someone has done with Inventory Insight Advanced Filters (category/subcategory sorting). And let us stack siege weapons (I can carry 100 stones in one slot, but just 1 ballista or 1 oil). And remove the inventory cost of collectibles (unique quest rewards) and pets.

I'd like to see separate, ample storage for things like pets, trophies and costumes (maybe as part of housing, if they ever add that?)
These things are supposed to be rewards, but space limitations sour them. There are still plenty of tough decisions to make making room for crafting mats, consumables, etc.

For me the key improvements would be a Search Box to search my inventory and the ability to manually sort and place items in an order logical to my muddled mind.. There is an addo that provides a grid view which has a lot of potential if I can self sort my my stuff.

If a seach option is not available then I would like resources for different crafts split onto different tabs. 95% of my inventory is full of crafting materials which I have to scroll through everytime I am looking for something.

would be nice if things that have the exact same attributes would stack. also i think some things need to be excluded from the count. collectibles, pets, treasure maps.

i still think the inventory is too small too, my bank is at 110 space and filled with just parts of sets i picked up and inventory gets filled too. now some people will say use alts to store stuff, but i want to have more characters i actually use, i dont want to use up my character space on alts for storage. i tihnk it should be something that is handled in game per character.

the thing with deconstructing banked items.. i love to see a radio button to exlcude banked items from showing in deconstruction mode...

They already have tabs which is great, but all I need now is basically extra sections based on item type (like in the material tab having separate indentation for Provisioning items etc) it gets kinda messy when every material is all jumbled together in alphabetical order in a VERY long list.

As mentioned, there are add-ons that address many of the items listed in this thread. I would not hold my breath waiting for ZOS to address any of them directly, other than the already planned trophy storage. The add-on system is not perfect, but seems the best option we're likely to see.

I use the common addons. FTC for the combat text, Framework for UI, lootdrop (cause lootdrop OP) etc.

Believe it or not if I had to choose one, it would be none of those. I can play proficiently without them.

I would choose the addon Inventory Grid View. Because the inventory menue/system in EsO is simply disgusting. Even consoles will will be like 'dude zos just because Im using a controller doesn't mean I'm wearing blinkers'

Apart from all the organisation, tabs, horses, houses and whatnot ideas (all cool), here is one marvelous solution:

Increase the stack size of stackable items (depending on what they are), for example, how about making it 300, 500, 666, XXX, for crafting materials.

    Problem solved? (kinda)

True. The community's done a great job with add-ons. I use Inventory Insight and would feel lost without it. Thing is, ZOS doesn't give a rat's ass about the add-on community and they change the add-on API at will and without warning. This alienates the add-on devs, and I fear many well-liked add-ons may be abandoned and broken eventually, leaving us with no option but to use ZOS' frankly poor UI.

Some great ideas listed in this thread. As much as I would love better sorting/custom arranging, if I could choose ONE idea listed here to have implemented, it would have to be the option to "lock" an item so that it doesn't come up in the sell/decon windows (decon more so than sell, for obvious reasons). Can't count the times I've accidentally deconstructed something I meant to hold on to.
