What will happen to VR Gear after the Champion System?

Anyone please correct me where I might be wrong:

After the Champion system, lvl 50 will be the highest level and additional XP will earn "points" you can apply in various ways.

That's fine. They will give points to current VR players to be retroactively fair.

HOWEVER, What will happen to VR gear with the Champion System?

*Will a set of VR14 gear be nerfed to the current equivalent of lvl 50?
*Will lvl 50 gear be buffed?
*Perhaps they will remain as very unique, rare and powerful relics?
*Perhaps Zos will simply take them away?

Has this been addressed anywhere? I need answers.

I will not "put the game on hold" for months waiting for the Champion system, and I will be extremely upset if I spend the time grinding up from a VR5 to 14 just to obtain the sets I want only to find them nerfed and my time/gold/and upgrades wasted.

I hope I am assuming wrong, and someone will point me to a concise and clear answer to what will happen to VR gear after the Champion system.

I know this is a sub-based game, but I sure hope Zos isn't planning on everyone starting from scratch with a bank full of junk gear after the Champion system. I don't think I would stand for that even in a free game.

Thanks in advance for anyone who shares some solid info.

I was wondering what will happen with the crafting skills after the implementation of the champion system , will there be some changes in the passives and/or a skills refund ? Will they delete/replace useless VR mats ?

Here's a little inside information on what the game is going to look like when they implement the Champion System:

I think I see a purple V12 warlock ring on that one guy tho?

Naw man, he's a Dragonknight, the train ran into him and well, that's what's left of it :)

I don't mean this bad, but that's an ENTIRELY unsatisfactory situation.

    Consider the following hypothetical situation:

Player is VR5 (Soon to be VR6). He wants to use a set at end game that is available at both VR6 and VR12-14.

Are both the VR6 and VR14 set going to be identical after the champion system? Surely you see how that would be problematic - especially not knowing.

If he power levels to VR14 and gets all his max gear and upgrades it only to find out that it's identical to the VR6 gear he could have gotten much sooner, easier, and cheaper...he's going to be pretty pissed off.

Have you played Destiny or FF14? In those it's a way of tracking gear progression without leveling. So no they wouldn't be identical and as it sits now the gear doesn't change all that much between levels.

The answer is still we don't know especially when development isn't even sure if champ system will actually end up fully replacing vet system when they get done with it.

Also wouldn't be that hard just to say 50 isn't that cap but its now 64 or whatever the 50 + VR max is when they get that far. 50 could easily be just the point you start generating champion points on a character.

Are we certain Veteran ranks are going away? Seems to me that they just put an awful lot of work into their scaling system which would be a moot point if all the dungeons were capped at 50.

I hope they go with lvl 64 instead. It just makes more sense and it would feel more like a true lvl cap rather than this VR system that feels like an endless grind and makes lvl 50 irrelevant.

Plus then they could just swap the gear from VR req to lvl req.

Currently they seem to want to replace vet but I think it depends on how stage 3 of the champ system goes, where both vet ranks and champ points would be working at the same time.

Honestly I currently think it might be best to leave vet ranks as a thing so you don't have to reinvent the wheel for gear and difficulty progression and have the champ system be the legacy system that it sounds like.

Also I don't really see how you could balance leveling any better by have players guess what the difference between somebody or a mob who is 50 +100 Champ Points and Somebody who is 50 +600 Champ Points.

Plus it seems easier to show a character is VR 14 than just 50 with maybe a tier denoting range of champ points your in. Also I'd say two types of progress is more rewarding so it feels like your characters still having progress instead of just progressing a collective aetherial connection of your account.

Whatever they change the gear to it will make sense in the new system. So don't worry. I'm sure you will be able to advertise your awesomness to strangers just fine.

Sorry OP, I wish I had something substantive to add. The Devs previously mentioned how gear would have different seasons. Perhaps to differentiate gear they could require that certain seasons of gear requires a certain amount of champion points earned to use that gear.

In terms of converting current gear to this new system, I would imagine they would implement something that denotes that today's VR14 gear belongs to a stronger season than today's VR1 gear.

And to allow further gear progression in the future, I imagine there will be new seasons of gear introduced that require even more earned champion points earned and so on and so on.

Yes, it's all a great deal of speculation. ** Grunim wanders singing the South Park imagination song**

I suspect gearlevels/gearscore/itemlevels like in other MMOs. You level to 50 but the gear keeps improving after that. While your character may be capped at 50, his items could have an average gearlevel of lets say 98 (GL 64 being current VR14 white gear, and GL 104 being the current VR14 gold gear). Pure speculation, but I think I recall them mentioning gearlevels at some point.

Shor I hope so. Galatite, Calcinium, whatever never had a place in the world to begin with, certainly not after Ebony ...

I expect a system similar like the skill point system for wearables.
Spend 10 (random number, no clue how many/how it would scale) champ points here, be able to wear VR4+ gear. Invest 20 more, access to VR6+ gear.
    Something like that.

IIRC, the next phase of the champion system will add the actual champion system, and the VR system will co-exist alongside with it (for gear purposes) until the final phase is implemented, which will remove veteran ranks and introduce a seasonal system for gear, where the veteran gear would be equivalent to the first 14 or so seasons.

Something like that was mentioned by Zenimax Online months ago. It might have changed since then. I'm also not very familiar with other MMOs, so I'm not really sure what a seasonal gear system even means. :p

I'll go dig up a source

After listening to the guild summit, it sounds like things will still be tiered somehow by restricting their use via how many Champion points you have.

The thoughts at the time anyway. They want to do gear 'seasons' that will allow players to get the formerly strong tiers more easily as newer gear shows up to overtake it.

    * I remember these things being talked about, but I can't say for 100% that it was the summit alone. May have been a combination of interviews, quakecon, and whatever else.

You are joking the Developers know even less than we do, they are making it up on Reddit when pushed, there is no development plan!

If there was then 1.5.2 would have had the correct numbers in the database stats, the UI & the levelling code! (& 1.5.4 would not have you leveling @25% of the UI display)

They will add seasons in future, like at WOW the T sets. Level 50 gear will be season 0 and everything newly added is Season 1.

VR gear or levels will be removed / morphed to level 50.

This is at least the last information we have, that said its months old so who knows what Paul has been cooking lately. :p

    Are you kidding me?

The plan is to level/morph all gear 50-VR14 to the same thing and then start offering more powerful gear over time?

I don't, no - I can't believe that. If I spent the next months getting VR14 and wake up after the Champion system to find it's the same as lvl 50 gear...I unsub that day forever.

    Maybe, hopefully, I misunderstand you.

Probably no change will be done. I will just need more mats to make higher level gear.Like vr14 = 25 void then if u get champion level 15 u will need like 30 void
