Could be fun... but dont want to be "forced" to do it (like if they drop uber stuff)

"Hey, look at me!" activities are inherently destructive to community because they drive a wedge between players.

I've never really seen that behavior. If anything, large world bosses inspire players to group up in areas where they normally feel compelled to stay on their own.

I can't comment about FF14, because I haven't played it, but in Swtor, the last MMO I played what happened is you got people advertising that they were going after the world boss (what they were called in that game) and if anyone was interested to whisper them.
You got people who wouldn't normally do it going after them, and some random but decent drops. The battles were all friendly (apart for the world boss obv) and people supported one and other. You even got people going after multiple world bosses and inviting everyone along.
It was all very convivial (I had to check the spelling, but I do use the word) and made it all a nicer place.

Basically Odin and Behemoth where random world bosses that would spawn once every few days which made them quite rare. But of course when they pop everyone and their brother ran to get them which usually caused the server to crash. And I mean the whole server whether you where part of it or not. You could be in a whole different area and the server would kick you for it. Also that many people in one area cause so many problems with slowing down to 1 FPS and even where the boss wouldn't even be visible. Comparing to how it happened there along with ZOS's amazing Server structure and super amazing ability to fix things. I can see it going badly.

Ah right, well in SWTOR these respawned after about an hour, but there were at least two instances, so it was two of them every hour.
We don't have the instances, but if the bosses respawned either every hour or every half hour, then everyone could have a shot.
If done right it can be fun and you make friends.

I haven't got far enough in SWTOR to really see any of these. I know in FFXIV it was a pain. In GW2 they made it work fairly decent. In WoW it always seemed like a cluster f to me. Rift did it pretty well.
I agree with you that if done right it can be great. While I really enjoy ESO for what it is, I really don't trust ZOS to get a lot of things right. I do give them props on their first MMO going as well as it is considering the size and complexity. All the same there are all the problems which come with that, especially when they try to "break the mold" on everything.
{cut for brevity, I did read though}
Apologies for making it so long and completely derailing from the topic
If they do, do NOT send me a Notification about it.
FFXIV and FFXI do this well - world bosses that are difficult and feel "epic".
Could tie any number of things to them: A quest for a purple/gold tier upgrade material of your choice, vanity gear/mount/pet/costume, gold, loot, reputation/skill tree experience, etc.
Id love something like this.

I agree... except for the quest thing, that kind of defeats the whole "random" thing about it

Killing the boss drops an item that begins a (possibly repeatable) quest? Just spitballing here.

OHHHHH, my bad bruh! I thought you meant you took a quest to go kill it and I was just like "-.-... I thought we said they was random in the last thread." And yes, I meant the improper grammar to look silly. That being said, I would definitely be ok with a repeatable quest drop. In a game I played, called Last Chaos, there were items that dropped at random that were chapters of the book of life, there were only two, the quests though would give you a new pet who eventually could fight alongside you so it was pretty cool
