Does anyone actually Fish?

Hey guys there is defiantly no shortage of fishing spots through out this lovely land and no shortage of bait. I'm just wondering how many people actively engage in this?

If you do, do u find it enjoyable?
Do you just do it for the achievements?

Have your ever caught a rare fish?

If you dont fish, have you tried it?

I have seen guilds have fishing events and there was even a fishing guild but I don't see much of it going on.

I know it may be bad to some people but im really interested as I have never ran past anywhere and gone hey look that guys is fishing.. other then NPCS :)

Myself I have tried it but never found it engaging. like I just caught a huge longfish but it was tiny little tug in the water haha I would like to be dragged out to sea just once because the fish was to big to catch, and no one has story's of the ones that got away hahah

People do fish, and people do it to complete achievements. From personal experience, getting the Master Angler title took a month and a half, and lots of patience! Increase your chances to get a rare fish by teaming up with 2 or more people.

Since fishing is still only good for achievements, when I do go fishing, I try to do an entire zone at a time, so I can more easily keep track of what water-type I still need.

That means having enough bait saved up to probably last till I'm done. That's no problem for guts, crawlers and insect parts, but I come by worms so rarely, it takes me about a month to get a stack and I wanna have two stacks before I start. I've tried to buy them, but haven't found a seller yet. I guess fishermen keep them for themselves and everyone else deletes them.

That means I go fishing about once every two months.

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌ When the provisioning update goes live, please convert plump worms to bait.

You should try Invigorated Wriggles-in-Gullet or a good old Worm Tart. These would definitely blow your mind.

Random suggestion: have those foods increase chances to catch a rare fish instead of player stats. How cool would that be!

It's part of my roleplay so I do it often. It's also relaxing and I get some money when I sell the fish.

I don't care about rare fish or achievements.

Does anyone of you remember that old game for very young kiddies?

It consisted of a small fishing pole with a magnet, a under-the-sea themed box where you could put colorful paper-fish in.

Since you could not see what you would catch, it was always a surprise what you would get ^^

Fishing in ESO reminds me of that old kids game. I love it. Kills time, you never know what you get... and most of all!!!! you get rid of the worthless crawlers and worms ^^ and with some luck some valuable fish in return!

    Edit:
    Forgot to mention.
Instead of just selling the fish, I rather would love to give it to my provisioner and make some food from it.
We need some more recipes that include fresh fish!

    Some thoughts on fishing:

I achieved Master Angler and wear the Slaughterfish Flesh color on my armor. It looks lavender in most light. Who would want any other dye?

    Cats like fish.

I play to keep stress low. Hard to fish for rares and not go catatonic (especially if you are Khajiit). That is powerful stress reduction.

Im glad I could help haha

Yea i was busy grinding today and accidently killed a crab and some bait dropped out right next to a fishing spot so I was like oh well while I'm here may as well have a go.

I did it once got a longfin and thought I wonder what else I could catch haha killed a few more only got 7 longfins and 1 minnow.

That made me intrested in what people catch and if other did it :)

it was a bit of the rage in headstart but haven't seen any going on since then

No point in fishing. oh but achievements you cry??? again....no point, they don't give titles or anything so it's just a tick in a notepad nobody will ever see.

You can't even use the fish in Cooking????? Who the hell dropped that ball?

I've caught a few rares. I like to just turn off all zone chat and guild chat and listen to the ambient noise and music from time to time. Reminds me of fishing with my dad when I was a kid except no snakes slither over the tops of my bare feet in the game....

There is no point doing a lot of things but people enjoy it all the same for a lot of different reasons.

I assume the RPers would enjoy it.

I enjoy people sharing there experiences, the forum is a small slice of the population in game so its good to see people that are on here like to fish.

I was fishing "a lot" on release but the fish I caught never landed in my bags so I gave up over time.

While it is fixed now I believe, its still not really that appealing to me. Fishing in other MMOs has always been the source for cooking but at ESO this isn't the case at all.

In my opinion ZO should add recipes that use our fish as for me running around in towns looting baskets is pretty unfun if you depend on specific ingredients for your cooking meal.

Haha - people do a lot of things in life that don't necessarily have any adrenalin or high-powered reward attached. I think there are plenty of people who realise that rushing around going "RAAAAAR" at life isn't actually all that satisfying, sometimes you just want to sit back and relax.
The guild I am in had a really great fishing event, we all fished and sat around chatting on teamspeak -we found it really good fun.
Tip - different people like different things. Try to remember that as you go through life (and the internet, and games), and you will do well.

I fish-I am still working on Master Angler achievement...it is an odd habit of mine-if I play an MMO and there is fishing, I fish. I love to fish IRL-gets me out of the city, lets me relax and just enjoy nature. In game, it lets me relax as well. I have all of EP done except Bleakrock, all of Coldharbor done and I have all but 2 done in Craglorn. Still working on the zones in the other factions as I work through Cadwell's gold. I keep the fish because I am hopeful the bug that makes the greens (except Craglorn greens) worth zero gold, will be fixed at some point. I am ready to make a mule Argonian called "holds-green-fish" :)

This is what I'm waiting for. I usually love to fish and I think ESO will be a great game for it with all the scenic locales. I don't think grouping should be involved in fishing, though. That's weird.

I don't care much for achievements, but practical stuff like food and alchemy, yes, please.

I find it absolutely boring. It's a mindless activity. It's also non-immersive; how often have you seen NPCs fishing in water that is only inches in depth? It serves no real purpose in the game.

IMHO, it is the worst implementation of fishing in any MMORPG since Ultima On-Line...

They need to allow you to type in chat when you fish. That's a big missing feature which limits its usefulness.

They also should have some provisioning items that are only available through fishing to get more people hooked (ha!) into the activity.

And I'd like to see unique spots--fishing spots that appear just for a while, rarely, and give decent loot or rare fish. These should look different so when you see 'em you (and others) run for 'em, like a rare spawn. Another thing to get people into the activity.

Other than that, I do it, and enjoy it, when I'm soloing sometimes.

They could improve it by adding a title. Master Baiter seems to fit here.
There is a title: Master Angler.
    And that's what I am.

I always loved to explore the worlds of TES (played all from III to V), just running around and finding things by chance.
I started fishing, because I wanted that bright yellow for the Aldmeri fisherman achievement. And in the end it was me that had been caught. XD Because I got to see parts of the landscape I usually never would have seen.
Fishing is relaxing, that's true. But also a bit thrilling at time. Funny. Frustrating. Standing between so many agressive mobs, trying not to be seen and yet one turns around and smacks your head and you go "MrrrrOAARleavemealone!!!"
Fishing next to a worldboss (char is VR14) and the lower chars sneak around you, back and forth til you cry out "Oh cmon. If you need help, just ask!". Happened more that once. ;)
For frustrating I just name Rift river/foul water and Cyrodiil sea fishing spots -.- (I'm DB).
So much more to see for explorers, adventurers and RPs.

And for the ones who need a reward for everything they do:
XP thanks to the mobs blocking your fishing spot.
Money. I made so much gold while walking around.
I found so many well hidden treasure chests. I never used harvest map!
You get surprisingly lot attention from other players. Almost everyone stops next to you while you're fishing. Some talk to you, ask questions about it.
Once you've got the title ppl whisper to you their respect. And most of them mean it. XD

Because it's a rare title that needs a bit of patience and a lot of endurance. Looks boring at first, but once you've finished your first map... you'll be hooked. ;)

I fish with my RL wife, but more often than not, as we fish together sometimes this leads to bad "Karma" in our relationship if one of us finishes a zone before the other and has to wait (sometimes days) for the other to finish a zone.
As i want the Master-Baiter title to stay as something you really have to earn rather something you turn up for , i'm torn between making it easier or going to marriage guidance

I have been fishing on AD because I would like that shade of yellow that comes with the achievement. It appears to be a more solid yellow that looks less like biological waste.

I have found fishing to be one of the most boring experiences I have endured in any game. I have blown through stacks of 100 bait trying to get the 2 green 1 blue fish in each type of water in a zone for the achieve. I have literally fallen asleep while doing this. I understand your chances of getting better returns in a group, but people would rather be off playing the game than standing around wasting time.

As much as I would like that yellow, it's just way too boring. I have lost motivation to keep at it.

Agree with @Manjika - when I get my Master Angler title I will wear it with pride - it's rarer than any of the other titles. You can keep your Dragonstar Arena Whatever, I see so many people with that title now. I will happily be Master Angler, knowing that it is one of the rarest in the game, one that requires a lot of exploration to different areas and patience to achieve.
