By not working I mean my character goes through the motions and magica is expended, but there's no visible effect on the target. It's like in PvE where it would say "target is too powerful for this effect". Can players also become "too powerful"?

not really.Question for the experts: If you raise max stamina and have relatively low max magica, doesn't that mean your attempts to CC others via spells will become rather futile?
I ask, because if that were the case, if you want to up your melee weapon damage by raising stamina, you'll be doing so at the expense of your ability to keep the opponent within striking distance
