What is "Explosion" damage?

I was in Upper Craglorn and I hit a troll with some Explosions. Combat Log Statistics showed me that "you hit Troll for 700 with Explosion". I was using Inner light, Surge and 2 Destruction Staff skills: Fire Reach, Fire Ring. I have no ideas what that "Explosion" is.

Each weapon that is enchanted always applies it's enchant effect when striking target, every 4 seconds. It does damage of the appropriate type, but also has a chance to do something extra.

Like a dagger enchanted to do poison damage will do X poison damage on strike(once every 4 seconds), but sometimes it will also proc/place a damage over time effect on the enemy.

If the weapon is enchanted to do fire damage, when used on an enemy that is vulnerable to fire(like a troll is), this extra 'proc' is called explosion. It does high damage and knocks the target down.

Is it the same chance against any mob? My friend mentioned that it seemed like it procced more against mobs that were weak to fire, but that is anecdotal, I know.

i believe the "explosion" is from a synergy that is a skill used in the mages guild skill line.
i can cast it but some one else in my alliance has to click on it to cast the explosion.
just my opnion of what that explosion is.

My weapon is enchanted by Disease Damage. Nobody was around so it can't be synergy. Haven't checked on other mobs.

oh, well if no one else was around then my apologies.
i didnt realize you were solo when this happened. since you were alone when this happened then i honestly dont know what caused it.

Explosion is not a synergy, but a super-proc from fire-based attacks.

    For fire:
    - Standard proc: burning
    - Super-proc: explosion (possible on mobs that have fire vulnerability, like ghosts)

To iterate on that: explosion can only happen on mobs keyed with that vulnerability and nothing else. AFAIK, fire also literally is the only element that has things vulnerable to, for others those mechanics simply don't exist.

Not that it matters, as fire is hands down the best element for everything anyway.

Is Flame Atronach vulnerable to frost damage?

I would assume so considering that things can have weaknesses and resistances. It would only be logical.
