Concept: Punish good players

Hi fellow mmoers. Would the following work in a mmo?

Lvl 1-50 Your char grow stronger.
Vr 1-10 Your char grows weaker again. If you die in vr levels You loose vr exp.

Max equipment req is lvl 50

Idea vr give bragging rights while it autobalance the game. The carrot for vr could be higer drop chance for loot and more gold per drop.

Would counter form. Give all players a challange.

What do you think?

Why not? Level 50 is max level. If you are good the game will gradually increase in difficulty as you gain vr. If you starts to play bad you will lose vr and the game will get easier again.

Losing xp on dying is a HORRIBLE idea as long as the game is so terribly unbalanced.

Angry you dont loose exp 1-50. 50 is max lvl. In vr you lose just because you need to have a way back to a stronger char again.

XP loss on death is a throw-back to the 1990s .. just like Craglorn's group-or-GTFO philosophy, so XP loss fits right in to ESO as ZOS have evolved it.

It was mainly pvp i was thinking about. Good players get high vr for bragging rights. Their char becomes weaker and demand more skill. Sure gankers will not like this.. You cant get totally op and 1 shot noobs..

Vr10 and lvl 50 would be the same... Vr would just be an indikation of how skilled you are. As it is now good players get best equip which makes their chars even stronger and widens the gap between 24/7 er and casuals..

Actually, no it wouldn't. All this would just encourage playstyles that are extremely good at risk vs. rewards, i.e. stealth ganking and running if the target doesn't die without ever getting into a real fight. For pve it's almost worse. The current measure of effectiveness of guilds for example are leaderboards, and that wouldn't work with individual "self gimping" at all.

Only if the servers are improved to the point of no lag, but this idea has been tried by many an MMO, & is never liked.
It also heavily punishes 'good' players that want to try hard content out before others or without reading the ZAM guide to ...
It does not 'reward' good players at all it rewards those that only play 'safe' and read how-to rather than having fun...

Ok so maybe this is not optimal in pve but i still think it would work in pvp. And im not only talk about eso i mean if a system like this would work in general. Say there was a new mmo on the market with max lvl 50. For pve it enda there for pvp you have a rank system where noob=vr1 and slayer=vr10. Everyone starts as noobs bit then better players rank up but becomes weaker until they reach their equivalent point where they die as much as they kull (or some ratio other than 50-50). This would level the playing field in pvp and better players have higher rank for bragging rights.

Pure genius, OP. Until your idea is implemented, I will prepare by removing all my skill points, attribute points, and armor. I will use white weapons until I reach level cap, and then switch to unarmed.

Or you can do it gradually going down from yellow, to purple, and so on to white, then unarmed/unarmored.

    Can we fight bare handed?

Yeah huge difference, firstly most of us would die once, see that it's permanent and say "Sod this, i'll play something I can enjoy instead". The remainder would be loving it, for about a week, at which point the game would be losing money so badly the plug would be pulled.

I have played games with perma death, and games with no save files, and games with ultra hard difficulty. I ain't doing so again.

No because if they stealthgank and raise in rank their chars would be weaker until he can't 1 shot poor noobs anymore and actually needs to use skill to improve further.. Also as I said the vr would not be a good thing since its only bragging rights...they weakens your char...

Ive seen this concept work in other games, but not in mmos like eso. The best recent example of this system working would be the game Path of Exile. Although it's technically an MMO is a vastly different form, that's why it works.

Eso is not designed for HC/dead is dead/exploss etc.
