Is it against the Terms of Service to hide in a resource/keep while afk to get AP?

And by "hide" I mean standing for hours and hours in the exact same spot--not just for a few minutes--occasionally shooting a light attack into the ground or a wall.

Of course the obvious response is...how do you know whether someone is AFK or not? I can't know, but it is really hard to believe that someone is sitting there pressing a key every 15 minutes.

I honestly don't care one way or the other because the tiny amount of AP that will be leeched by a single person on the off chance that the area is attacked and the successfully defended is miniscule, I was just kind of curious what the policy is.

maybe that person had a really bad stool?

That is kind of my point, is it against the rules to use some extra-game method (such as a mechanical device that presses a key every 5 minutes) to circumvent the auto-log-off feature.

Against the ToS if you use a automation bind to keep you to not exit... but to stay at a keep doing nothing for hours is fine... probably morally wrong if it's on a full server where people are queuing to get on but if not it's fine.

    I'd say no.

During "The Tickening" at Sej, that one fateful night many moons ago, I decided that the tick was taking too long arrive and that I should really go to bed to get some sleep before work... so I hid in the corner and put a weight on my 'w' key... lol

Afterall, I'd earned the near 50k AP I woke up to!

Before the patch I sometimes hid in a mine or farm and waited for the suicide porters. Each one gave me about 2000 AP. 1000 for the player, another 1000 for the def-tick.

This also works if you are afk, you just get half the points for not being involved
in killing. This is absolutely OK. But at the point you use a macro or something
to stay "active" to avoid the kick you would violate the TOS. I doubt anyone would care for that because how could it be detected? Unless reportet by another player I doubt anything would happen. I've seen some macro-hiders before near keeps or resources. Hours later they were still there.

With the changes/removal of camps the suicide porting will be decline, too.
And when you are found or the resource is taken (npcs will see you) you will be dead for hours. IMHO afk-farming won't work(any more) .

    More importantly... Who cares?

Does this affect your gaming experience?

I clearly stated that I did not care, I was just curious about the policy. I suppose reading comprehension wasn't your strongest subject in school?

They mean skill points; AP can also be used to buy items so yeah, there is some benefit from them but it definitely isn't anything to write home about.

If you are pondering about TOS, take an advice from a lawyer that helps understand most rulesets:
If you behave like an *** and this has an impact on others legitimate activities it is against the rules - and if not, then not.

In the real world it might take some years for courts to reach that point (US might be an exception...).

So stop taking out the tape measure to look if your neighbour has parked 2cm on the white line and get on with your life.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought about the suicide porting angle of it before. In those cases I guess you really could rack up some AP...at least before the patch. With suicide porting more or less on it's way out I guess there won't be much point to it anymore.

I appreciate your insight, although I am not sure what you are getting at with the last line of your post. I have stated several times that this doesn't affect me, it is pure curiosity that led me to ask. I assure you that the query has not delayed in any way my "getting on with life," as it was never postponed to begin with.

"you" as in "everyone that actually spends time trying to find people who might violate the letter of some regulation without it having any effect on the overall goal that regulation had in the first place", not you in person.
It was a general advice (because as a lawyer I would had to charge you if I advised you personally ;) )

I hear what you are saying; I certainly don't waste my time looking for people that do this. I just happened to see one the other day in the course of my Cyrodiil travels and someone was talking about reporting him, and I was curious if you could even get in trouble for it.

It is definitely not information that I would pay to find out, hence the asking on an Internet forum, lol.
