Skaal Roleplay

I am planning on getting back in to the game, and I was thinking of doing a skaal. The only thing that I m conflicted about is what armor/ skills would he have?
Class: Clearly he cannot be DK, as it is a blending of Tamriellic and Akaviri fighting styles/magic. Sorcerer is a no since he just isn't that type of char. So that leaves me with Templar or NB. I was thinking of Templar, but could a NB also work? I don't know personally, but could a NB not-as-stealthy warrior could tell me if it could in theory work better than Templar.

Armor: Clearly he cannot be light armor, but I am conflicted about medium vs heavy. If it was up to me he would wear Nordic fur the entire game but unfortunately that isn't an option, both item and practicability wise. I am conflicted on whether he would wear medium or heavy.

Weapons: From what we know the skaal probably use mace sword and axe, but I dont know which to pick. On the one hand mace of aevar stone singer. but on the other hand axes, and swords are also cool. Then there is his secondary. I was thinking Archery but perhaps two hander would work? by the way he is sword n board

Any thoughts on this? I am mainly conflicted about the medium or heavy armor but the other stuff I could also use some help on.

If you have to choose between Templar and NB I would go with a Templar. NB's are more Dark Brotherhood/Thieves Guild friendly where the Skaal are really just Nords who are in touch with nature and magic.

A Templar with probably heavy armor fits the lore more based on the fact that it's cold where the Skaal are and it's what they'd wear, not sure they'd use medium armor because they'd freeze. However you could wear a little both... like 5 heavy 2 medium. As for weapons well that's just personal taste for you because the Skaal used any and all. I guess if I had to choose I'd go with axe (one handed) and maybe a secondary of bow (Skaal are hunters, they love bows).

Just my thoughts, hope it helps.

I think I will heavy armor medium armor mix with you saying that, though if they added wolf or bear armor similar to bloodmoon I would wear that in a second. And I agree, bows would probably be best.

I suppose you can ignore the class and go only with weapon skills. As far as your dilema with sword or axe ... why not dualwield both?

I would be up for having a Skaal RP character; hit me up if you are looking for someone to play with.

From the pragmatic real-world POV, you'd be far more likely to use Medium Armour than Heavy Armour, because metal armour cools faster, is less insulating and gets' much colder, thereby absorbing more body heat. I also don't remember the Solstheim Villagers wearing heavy armour only the idiots in that Mead Hall "Graring's House".

Well, considering one of the best heavy armors in Morrowind(and Skyrim) was worn almost exclusively by the skaal I dont know what to think. On the one hand, I want to try out medium armor but on the other hand I not only like heavy armor but also dont know if he would wear medium over heavy. To medium armor users, is it possible to make a true warrior while wearing medium mainly? or would I be at a large disadvantage?

LOL I think you would be doing yourself a favour. Heavy Armour perks buff Health with small buffs to Stamina (I think).

Medium Armour perks simply buff Stamina and stealth. One of the perks of Medium Armour reduces the stamina cost of your activities (assuming you spend points on the perk) and boosts Stamina regeneration.

I would consider going 5/2 Medium/Heavy probably using Torso and Head for the Heavy.

Dragon Knight, if you focus primarily on ardent flame/earthen heart is mostly just fire/earth magic, and actually makes for a pretty good barbaric druid type thing. My main character is a 5/2 medium/heavy armor, 2h/bow wielder forsworn werewolf who is a hybrid of weapons, magic, melee and ranged, including stealth. It works extremely well, actually.

I use cleave/fire breath/burning talons/uppercut(or charge)/momentum for AoE, and also stealth. Opening from stealth with Uppercut tends to wreck enemies.

For single target, bosses, or mobility, i use venom arrow/searing strike (or ash cloud)/obsidian shard/snipe/coagulating blood (morph of dragon blood). Opening with snipe from stealth and behind does a ton of damage, and between obsidian shard and searing strike (or ash cloud), you can kite fairly well, weaving light attacks with poison arrow.

You'll also notice that aoe uses more magicka than stamina, and uses a stamina based heal (momentum), while single target uses mainly stamina, with a magicka based heal (coagulated blood).

Weaving between the two weapons also lets you make the most of your resources, and not worry about running out of either. On top of that, one of the earthen heart passives restores health/magicka/stamina when you activate an ultimate, based on said ultimate cost. Popping werewolf berserker basically restores all of my resources, fears enemies around me, and (now) gives me greater control of the battlefield with the new abilities and howl of terror.

One of these days, I need to submit it to ZoS for their build of the month stuff.
